Peguins Declare Impasse in Arena Talks...

Not only is "cry wolf" tactics, it has to be a distraction for a club that's doing very well since the All-Star break. They made some moves at the deadline, and they look like they want to make a run this season (as unlikely as it seemed a few months back). It's unfortunate that Crosby and the bunch have to think about this garbage while they're trying to win hockey games, get themselves back into the playoffs and make a showing. As for moving the Red Wings to the East, I've always been opposed to it, however, after hearing some of the management and players' opinions regarding travel and time zone shifts and such, it may not be such a terrible idea. I don't like the style of the Eastern Conference and how it matches up against the Wings, but I'm sure they can adjust, and the flights to and from San Jose/LA/Vancouver/Calgary fewer times a season would be nice for the guys. Edit: spelling

Homer out a few games, Hasek back this weekend

We can't call up a player that isn't Red Wings property -- he's not under contract from Detroit, so he's ineligible until signed by the big club.

    Macdonald...

Possible. I don't catch a lot of Hawks games... you may be right on the money there.

What's wrong is "everybody's lazy and they suck."

    Macdonald...

Heroes of Hockeytown got it -- it was Tim Taylor of the Lightning

Homer out a few games, Hasek back this weekend

You and me both, my friend. Center Ice ONLY drops out when I'm watching a Wings game... Yesterday the problem became resolved when I bitched to you about it, then changed the channel, found the audio feed on NHL.com, and changed the channel back. That seems to be the process for fixing it hahaha -- give it a shot. It's like the Nintendo code for Contra - either you do it right or you have to reset the entire system...

    Macdonald...

    Booyah. Nicely done.

    Macdonald...

Primeau WAS indeed captain, but there is a current captain of an NHL team that is a former Red Wing - besides Dallas Drake. Hatcher was, indeed, captian of the Stars, but Forsberg took over for Primeau when Primeau was forced retired. I have no idea if they've named a replacement now that Forsberg is a Predator...

    Macdonald...

Oh I absolutely caught it -- sarcasm is my native tongue. Indeed he does - must have slipped my mind as I only searched former skaters... MY BAD! He wears an "A" for the Hawks - Adrian Aucoin is their current captain. Good guess though!

    Macdonald...

Remember when Tim Cheveldae was an All-Star? Joey MacDonald will never appear in an NHL All-Star Game. Feel free to call me on it if he does! ALSO, when making your list of Red Wings cast-offs who ended up in Boston, don't forget: Fired GM Mike O'Connell, short-lived Red Wing Jason York, and Griffin turned Providence Bruin Nathan Robinson. For a long time, the Blues were the dumping ground of the Red Wings, but now only have captain Dallas Drake and recently demoted Wings fan-favorite Jamie Rivers. Anyone have a guess at who the other "Former-Wing-turned-other-teams-captain" is?

    Brian Burke: Trade Diary

This was my favorite hockey read of the year. I loved seeing the inner workings of what the GMs have to do to jockey for position to trade later. It's a chess game that ZERO people on LGW understand fully, and seeing his insight was quite awesome. I just hope it doesn't get him in some trouble - with the league and other GMs for sharing "secrets." Oh wait, yes I do...

    Future of Wings goaltending

Here's my two cents... Dominik Hasek has played well enough this season, and stayed healthy enough, to earn himself another one-year contract. Whether or not his head is in it this time is another story. Everyone here knows how he gets (retires, returns, retires, returns & ruins someone else's chance, moves via free agency, doesn't like it there, stops playing, retires, returns), but if he wants another year in the Winged Wheel, I'm putting my two bits on a re-signing. Chris Osgood has, as others have pointed out, another year on his current contract. He will be a Red Wing next season, like it or not. Despite Reem's love for him, and as much as I like her and value her opinion on these boards, I wouldn't be comfortable with Ozzie as our full-time starter (I'm sorry...), but he's a quality #2 and a fantastic character guy. My dislike for him has gone away, and I've learned to respect what he does bring to the team. We were all hoping for Jimmy Howard to be breaking down the door at the end of this season, paving the way for a Osgood/Howard tandem next season - but that hasn't quite happened. He's playing well down on the farm, but he's not making a case for himself to step into the NHL yet... at least, not on a team like the Red Wings. But you can't wait forever for him, and I suspect he'll get his share of starts next season (and by share, I mean 5 or 6). Stefan Liv, by all accounts, hasn't transitioned to the North American game well. He's had stints in Toledo and I'm not sure the organization is sold on him. But it's his first year across the pond and one thing that the Red Wings are is patient. As NorrisNick just pointed out, the Wings did draft a goalie this past summer. He is 21 years old, but as other European goaltenders have shown the last few seasons, that's not necessarily a bad thing. That Backstrom fella in Minnesota is quite the tender, and we saw guys like Lundqvist and Niittymaki make the transition quite well. RedWingsCentral has Daniel Larsson ranked quite high on their prospect list, and projects him as a #1 Goaltender. Maybe Stefan Liv is expendable afterall. I suspect Logan Koopmans will go by the way of Drew MacIntyre and get moved to another AHL team or just kind of fizzle away. Sad, because I was coming up with Super Mario Bros.-related nicknames for him. Joey MacDonald is Boston's problem now. Everyone get on their knees and thank whoever you pray to for that.

    Brodeur hot on Sawchuk's heels

Yes, I got that. Thanks. I was saying that Brodeur breaking that record seems inevitable - being that he has 12 this season and doesn't look to be drawing his career to a close. When he does surpass Sawchuk in the shutout department, it doesn't automatically make him a better goaltender. Perhaps this wording is more clear. Sorry for the confusion.

    Kyle Calder = Cory Cross?

Something tells me that Kyle Calder will be making a larger contribution to the Red Wings than Cory Cross ever did. We NEEDED help on the second line (or at least in the forward ranks, should he fall to a different line), whereas last season, we had a great team of defensemen. Cross was brought in as a depth player, and everyone knew that. This season, we needed Calder to add some spark. That need for a spark won't go away when the playoffs start. However, to echo your request -- SCORE MORE GOALS, KC!

    Brodeur hot on Sawchuk's heels

Brodeur is a lot of things, but class act is not one of them. What he is, however, is a hell of a goaltender, and he deserves this record - should be get it. Don't mistake a shutout record for a "best goalie ever" conversation, because there are others who stand out above him. Terry Sawchuk being one of them.

Nolan rejected Trade to Red Wings

I read that blurb this morning, and was surprised no one had posted it on LGW yet. I get to the office and here it is. It's interesting to think that the Wings brass put together that package of conditions for Bertuzzi AFTER Nolan rejected the trade. It seems like a lot of work went into selecting conditions and draft picks that would go to Florida, so I have to believe that both trade possibilities were going on simultaneously. Wonder who the Wings offered the Coyotes...

Homer is MOST valuable on the PP.

    Waivers after Deadline

I really don't think they'll bench either Samuelsson or Maltby. I'd LOVE to have both Hudler and Filppula in the games, but Sammy and Maltby are getting paid a hell of a lot more and Maltby's got the 3 Cup experience. It'll be tough to make a case of benching Maltby for Hudler. I wish there was a way you could dress 'em all, but ya can't. Not to mention, I'm sure that SOMEONE will get injured SOMEWHERE along the way... there's no guarantee that all Top 20 players are good to go at the same time. As long as it ain't Lilja, right??

    Waivers after Deadline

I thought Kopecky was done until like April, but not necessarily phoning it in for the season... however, if he is done for the season, just replace him on my little chart with Langfeld or Ellis or something... Either way, it's a Flip/Huds debate.
  21. JeeSpot82

    Waivers after Deadline

Actually, we can't send down EITHER Kopecky or Hudler, from what I recall. Filppula can go down without being subjected to waivers, but we don't need to send anyone anywhere, they'd just be healthy scratches... you can carry 23 players and dress 20: Datsyuk-Z-Homer Calder-Lang-Bert Maltby-Draper-Franzen Cleary-Flip-Sammy (Scratch: Hudler, Kopecky) Lidstrom-Markov Schneider-Kronwall Lebda-Chelios (Scratch: Lilja) Hasek Osgood ------- So THAT'S where Joey MacDonald's roster spot was going!

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

HAHA - The front page of TSN says Bertuzzi to Detroit. In return, DETROIT gets a conditional draft pick and a prospect. HELL OF A DAY FOR DETROIT! HAHAHA

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

I know some of the guys are hurt - that's why I said when everyone's healthy... but nevertheless. I hate to see either of those kids sit, but my guess is it'll be Hudler... Anyone concur or disagree?
  24. JeeSpot82

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

Hate to be the one to bring this up... but this means that Hudler or Flip probably sits (when everyone is healthy): Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Calder - Lang - Bertuzzi Maltby - Draper - Franzen Cleary - Filppula - Samuelsson (Hudler, Kopecky)
  25. JeeSpot82

Hopefully we will never see this again!

The Red Wings homepage lists Calder as #17. But it also has Hussey at #14, which he's never worn in the Wheel... So take it as you will.
