I don't disagree. But that's why I highlighted our "timeline". I agree we will certainly hit critical mass at some point, when we can start to add large free agents and make impact trades for needs. But I think most on the board would just disagree with me on when that point will come. I hear within 2-3 seasons. I tend to think 3-5 will be the very earliest. And in the meantime I'm content to make low risk low impact moves and build upon our draft fortunes by selling players. In 5 seasons the next crop of draft picks (the first round of Yzer picks) will all be 23-26. With Seider and Berggren at the older end, and this years picks at the low end. I'm more or less looking at that general point in time to start radically shifting team build strategy. By that time Guys like Vrana/Bertuzzi/Fabbri will be entering their 30s. I think it's only inevitable that most are traded within this 3-5 season window if I'm sticking with my projection for the teams window.

Torts is exactly what this batch of losers needs. Bag skating the enitre team because HSJ asked a stupid postgame question. Screaming at all the rookies because one of them smiled because their excited to be in the NHL but this isn't the AHL anymore and they shouldn't be smiling because smiling is for winners and this team doesn't look like winners and generally happiness is a sign of weakness so no smiling. Call Larkin a loser in front of his friends then pretend not to remember it when he brings it up to Yzerman 6 games later. Just laying into other bench bosses during games and causing a ruckus because why the hell not. Not giving a single s*** if its problematic. Torts likes it that way. Making the team apologize to YOU when you get fined by the league for saying inappropriate s***. Hell yes do this Yzerman.

You may not have much of a choice (for now). Quality UFA's aren't coming here. And we're in no position to make major additions via trade unless it's a sneaky Fabbri type deal - which I wouldn't call a regular standard we should expect. Our future outlook is gonna depend a lot upon the extensions Yzerman hands out this year. Vrana Erne Rasmussen Svechnikov Cholowski Lindstrom Hronek Bertuzzi Smith That's a pretty significant portion of the important pieces of our roster, with Vrana, Bertuzzi, and Hronek being the big fish. Do these 3 get one year extensions? 2? 3? Vrana and Bertuzzi will be UFA's when this next deal expires and eligible to walk (or be traded). Yzerman will essentially be giving himself a timeline with this next round of extensions. Mantha has 3 more seasons here after this one - this might be the best indicator of what Yzerman thought his timeline might be. Larkin has 2 more seasons here before UFA. Fabbri has 1 more before UFA. If this team is bad again next year Fabbri is very likely the next one to go. Larkin could be next after that. I think we're looking at least 3 more seaons of rebuilding as Raymond and Yzerman's other boys come up the pipe.

Bottom line is the team needs impact players. And we're gonna suck ass until we get them. The most we can look forward to next year is the addition of Seider. He will certainly be an impact player - but I don't think rookie Seider is gonna overhaul the team immediately. Maybe if we added a Philip Danault and/or Mike Reilly in the offseason we would improve a bit - but again these aren't the significant impact players that we need - and I doubt prime players like this want to come here right now anyway. The only exciting part about this offseason is likely to be the expansion draft. I see Yzerman probably being very active wheeling and dealing. But this will probably be him taking on more salary for draft picks again helping other teams facilitate their needs for the expansion. TLDR - we suck and we're going to continue to suck

Reilly - I like that he's sort of an under the radar player still making his name. Has been playing a good chunk of minutes for the Bruins and plays both special teams. He'd probably be our instant #1 LHD guy in Detroit. So My thought is maybe we can attract him with that ice time and exposure. Martinez - Solid vet Dman. Probably going to be more than a few bidders for him, but like you said maybe he can be attracted to come home to Michigan. Cole - Also a hometown Michigan kid. Oleksiak - Basically I like that he's huge and can fight lol Merrill - No intro needed Staal - Basically my final choice if all other options are exhautsed

I really have not understood the rumors surrounding these two and why they want to move them. Cap space? They have $3 million coming off the books in retained salary and buyouts this year. Drop Derek Ryan and that's another $3 million. Boom, now you have $7million to re-sign Valimaki and get a decent backup goalie. Probably will still have $2-3 mill left over to play with once all the re-signs are done. Need more? Buy out Lucic's last 2 seasons.

It's true. But Seider is a god among children. He's a 27 year old in a 20 year olds body. Will probably be the most dominant NHL Dman in the league in a season or two. His trajectory is ahead of Lidstrom's... Johansson is a good prospect, but still a normal prospect. If we've inserted 20 year old Dmen post Red Kelly, I dunno who they are, and they're very few and far between. He should get more time to develop.

Probably. At the most AHL. When was the last time a 20 year old Dman made the Wings opening night roster? Red Kelly lol?

I HIGHLY doubt a single one of those players makes the opening night roster, let alone play a single game for the Wings next season.

Seider - NHL Raymond - SHL/AHL Berggren - SHL/AHL McIsaac - AHL Veleno - NHL/AHL Petruzzelli - AHL Maybe there are some other random additions like Grewe being added to the Griffs, but I think this is how the big names shake out. Seider I expect goes to straight to the NHL and plays there all season. IMO I would keep Raymond in the SHL for another full season. He looks great, but he's not dominate like Seider is. I want better production than 6 goals and 18 pts in 34 games before bringing him over. Yzerman thinks the SHL is the best development league in the world, so I think it makes sense to leave him put for now. That said, now that he is under contract, maybe they want Raymond to come over to adjust to the smaller ice. And maybe they'd also like him for the AHL playoffs once the SHL season is done. I don't see any NHL time for him this coming year. Berggren is much like Raymond, but has backed up his play with numbers. For the same reasons I see him staying in the SHL or coming to the AHL for full or partial time. Mcisaac has only suited up for 30 matches over the last 2 season. Kid needs to log some big minutes in the AHL for a full year. I see Yzerman signing some vet LHD to put on top of players like this for now. Veleno looks to be the next forward callup. I think he splits time between AHL and NHL as the #1 callup. Petruzzelli is finally done with college. I'd like to get him signed for the Griffs. Drop Pickard and Boyle. And run Fulcher/Petruzzelli/Brattstrom/Larsson behind Greiss and Bernier. Not sure if Brattstrom will come over, or if Larsson even has a career here anymore though.
