Rafalski made it work. I'm just saying... this is the best U20 Dman in a mens league at 18 years old. That's impressive. He's dominating his age group, and also 19, and 20 year old Dmen. Most Dmen are not even making the Liiga until they are 21 or 22, and he's already there at 18 and leading the way. That's something to write home about.

Don't look now, but Erne is one of our most effective forward scorers per 60 minutes 1. Fabbri 2. Hirose 3. Smith 4. Filppula 5. Erne .... 10. Larkin .... 13. Zadina

Erne is #12 in even strength ice time per game among forwards. Below Helm, Flip, and Gagner. #15 in shifts per game among forwards. Below every forward not named Svech, Hirose, or Smith. He's literally having a great season despite Blash.

Can't speak about Berggren because he hasn't come to NA yet. I think Veleno and Ras may survive just because they are centers (unless Yzerguy starts drafting elite centers who leapfrog them) Zadina will be gone ala Tatar, Nyquist, Mantha. So overrated.

I just don't see that happening in 2 years. Maybe not even 4. This team is very far out in my eyes. Seider in his rookie year won't fix that. And Seider in his rookie year + 1 probably won't either. Our other prospects are far too immature still to make a big splash for this team in the 3 seasons. And it's doubtful an impactful UFA will sign up here in the meantime.

I must admit I have always liked Panik. Real utility knife style player. Got to watch him when he played for Syracuse, and despite being behind some other guys he always seemed like a leader who played in all situations effectively. I was surprised when he didn't get more of a shot with Yzerman in Tampa, as it looked to me like he was an up and coming good soldier for him. Not sure why he has regressed with Washington. I guess it's worth noting that Panik and Namestnikov are former teammates. Yzerman again targeting his former players.

It is worth noting that Friedman is also reporting that Vrana was in the doghouse in Washington for lack of effort. We essentially swapped our troubled players. Hopefully this is a Fabbri situation and Vrana will now turn it on. He should certainly be a go to player here. Anyone know if he or Panik are in tomorrow?

Well it's tough because Mantha quit on us this year. But we also know he's capable of a 70 pt pace even on a bad Red Wings team. Because he quit it leaves us really no choice but to trade him... however we're still out a potential 70 pt player in many respects. If Vrana can flirt with 60-70 pt paces it's a clear slam dunk win for us. It will also be interesting if Vrana has a true future here. I can see guys like he, Bertuzzi, and Fabbri getting flipped for picks in the next 18 months. That will extend the trade tree for our little Mantha deal.

I mean sure, but Connor Sheary, Lars Eller, Daniel Sprong, and so forth, are pretty much producing at the same levels as Larkin and Zadina are for us. The totality of the Washington team collectively is just so much better. They actual have a transition game, effective defenders, a coach, and can sustain offensive pressure. Vrana is losing that team wide support and the morale that comes with it. "Sheltered" was probably the wrong word to use. Underutilized may be the better descriptor for him. But unlike Burakovsky, Vrana isn't getting plucked from an underutilized role and sent to a good Colorado team where he can maximize his potential. He has to do that on the dead wings. Hopefully he can still do it, but I'm not holding my breath.

I really don't have a point beyond "I'm hesitant to call the trade a huge win slam dunk already" like many seem to think it is. But I am not dissatisfied with the return. I think there exists a scenario where Vrana is pretty average top 6 forward for us. And the picks turn out to be Svechnikovs or Cholowskis. In that case the win may be in Washington's column at the end of the day. Vrana will get more ice team and less quality of teammates. Mantha will get less ice time but higher quality teammates. The results remain to be seen.

Depends on how you define "turn the corner" I guess. Turning the corner to me would mean fighting for a playoff spot but still missing. Not competitive yet, but not a complete disaster no chance team either. Drafting in the 10-16 range instead of the 1-10 range. Unfortunately I think we will still be pretty bottomed out over the next 2 seasons. Our draft picks will still be too young to make big enough impacts. We will continue to only sign low quality UFAs, and we will continue to shed pieces like Bertuzzi and Fabbri.

IDK. From what I can see he's been sheltered on the 3rd line and PP on a good team his entire career. Mantha has at least shown in the past he's capable of 1st line duties.

Gentlemen, I think 2-4 years is insanely hopeful. Possible? Sure. But very unlikely. Consider this: In two years Seider will be 22. In four years 24. And this is essentially the eldest of "Yzer'z guyz". Raymond will be 21 in two years. 23 in four. This years first rounders will be 20 in two years. 22 in four. Not only would that be an insanely young core to successfully compete with. All these draft picks (including Raymond) have to be superstar level hits. Chances are more than half of our "hope to be superstar prospects" won't be. Look at Larkin and Mantha. Good players, but nothing you can build a championship around. We are going to have plenty of false prophets like this over the next 2-4 seasons. I think it's much more likely the corner starts to turn when Seider is about 26 and the vet leader on this team. Similar to Yzerman or Lidstrom. That gives GM Yzerman 6 drafts to land (and develop) the 2 superstars centers this team needs to have the one two punch down the middle we need and are accustomed to. Still a tall order, but much more doable. Not to mention we need to develop a competent goalie as well. Maybe Petruzzelli can be that guy in 3-4 years? Thats the soonest possible. If it's instead a guy like Gylander or draft pick from this year or ahead it could be another 5 seasons plus.

Yeah, can't say I was a huge fan of Chrissy over the years... but that's exactly how Seider plays. Almost douchey levels of confidence in all zones and physically imposing.
