We have Rasmussen, Pearson, and Veleno coming up this year for a position with 4 spots We have literally no one coming up on D this year besides Seider for a position with 6 spots, and our left side is basically vacant and devoid of any talent. You dandies are upset because Scheifele didn't "play the puck" but there's no rule suggesting one has to play the puck over the body. The hit is clean and even if you wanna cry about charging it's a very weak charging call. Everyone is rushing to a singular point on the ice to score or stop a goal. Collision is inevitable. Not like Scheifele committed a random charging in the neutral zone. Wrap around with your head down? Expect to be hit. Any Dman would lay someone out there. Scheifele just had to rush back to do it. Can't believe you people have this much of an overblown reaction to simple charging call lol

Folks forget, we didn't acquire him cause he's any good. We were paid to play him. Being a hair better than Dekeyser/Djoos/Cholowski is nothing to smile about. Staal is a 7th Dman on a decent team.

Mikko Lehtonen. 27 year old, 6'0" 200lb LHD. Top KHL Dman for two years in a row prior to this covid season. Lured to the NHL this year by the Leafs, then traded to CBJ. Leafs no longer needed him once Dermott emerged and Lehtonen wanted to play somewhere. Keefe also complained he wasn't assertive enough away from the puck. Fast and a gifted puck mover. The type of stealth pickup that could be really great and inexpensive for our left side and powerplay. After this first year of adjustment to NA ice I can see him doing much better in a more normal year next year. 6 pts in 26 games so far. Was PPG in the KHL.

I really don't care about Gagner. I like his cap hit for a warm body, and that's about it. I doubt Ryan wants to stay here at this point. Not a huge concern for me. I would be all for trading for Ladd + Eriksson + Komarov and just letting them be our 4th line.

A conversation with @Akakabuto and @marcaractac has completely reversed my thinking on the Staal brothers. I will no longer shill for those aging has-beens. Both are nearing retirement and uselessness and our roster doesn't need to rely on players like that. If Marc Staal wasn't here, I would have no interest in Eric. If NYR didn't pay us to take Marc last season I would have no interest in Marc. Taking a look at the goalie market - it's not as bad as I thought off the cuff. Ullmark Bernier Dreidger Grubauer Mrazek Andersen Rask Reimer Rittich Brossoit Raanta So Bern prolly stays put. But even if he didn't we might have some options.

IDK, everyone said the same thing about Svechnikov, and he cleared twice I think last season... and one of the times I think he had 5 pts in 10 games. I think Lindstrom would clear. IDK about Smith and Cholo. Toss up. Smith might be the most dangerous one to waiver.

Honestly, I let Stecher go, and I think this is probably who Seattle takes from us. He was a good addition, but he's a 27 year old undersized Dman who's probably never gonna score much more than 20 pts a season. This is a 3rd pairing filler on most teams. I'd much rather gamble on a young Cholowski and Lindstrom. Having Seider and Hronek in the lineup means we don't need Stecher anymore and Lindstrom can play a sheltered 3rd pairing role permanently. Biega and/or McIlrath can be backups for that role. Plus I guess Lindstrom has to pass through waivers next season. I really think Stech is the odd man out there. Glendog is a Wings lifer and fanboy, he'll absolutely be back (Love you glendog). Staal more than anything seemed excited to package himself with his brother Eric in free agency during the media availability. I'd be absolutely okay with taking both on in short contracts. The Staal bros would be THE vets in our lockerroom at that point to guide the kids. I like this. However, if Yzerman has no plans for Eric we might have to see Marc go. I don't see Bobby Ryan being back. I think he did enough in his short stint here to show other teams he still has some skill and usefullness and put himself back on the league radar. I think he'll sign a deal with a team more ready to contend. Mission accomplished for him. I'm a bit worried about Bernier. He's really come into his own with us and there will be some teams (like Holland's Oilers) who will really be after a goalie like him. The goalie market isn't exactly thrilling this year and Bernier could get himself a good contract on a better team. Gagner is a warm body on a great cap hit. If he wants a similar caphit keep him.
