Really not expecting that at all. I set the bar exceptionally high for Seider personally, and he's jumped over even that so far. Larkin/Mantha/Zadina/Hronek were all decent players in their youth, but Seider is a monster in an entirely separate tier of existence.

I've been saying it since we drafted him. Not sure I've ever seen a player more fit to be captain. It's almost a shame in my mind to only give him an "A". Exudes confidence, charisma, enthusiasm, personality. Plays like a vet already at 18/19. Physically dominant and fearless, yet super controlled and not dirty at all. Norris caliber superstar written all over him. What does Larkin have? Standard run of the mill boring hockey personality. Works hard, but not overly talented. Happens to be born in Michigan. Had Yzerman not made the mistake of making Larkin captain already the choice would be easy. It's Seider all day. And I think that theory is going to be proven very quickly next season when he's clearly the best player on this team driving everything forward for us.

I'll take free 2nd rounders for just about anything. Don't re-sign Gagner or Ryan and just let him wallow on the 4th line for all I care.

Cholo, Smith, Lindstrom... all waiver exempt right now. Not sure if that extends to next season. Smith is officially on the GR roster right now. Remember that one of Cholo, Lindstrom, Svech are off to Seattle. Which clears another spot. Regardless injuries will tear through our butthole again and all three would likely be on the roster relatively quickly. Maybe don't re-sign Biega and Gagner? Or just assign them to GR or sign more GR depth players.

How long before Seider clearly unseats Larkin as the C of this team? I think it could be as early as this very coming season. With Larkin being captain in only name by seasons end. Do you think real recognizes real and Yzerman does an awkward transition of Larkin being stripped and Seider being named? Like Brown/Kopitar or Luongo/Sedin? Maybe Larks gets traded... I really 100% honestly think if we keep Larkin on as captain he'll end up being a pseudo leader figurehead. Seider has the superstar performance, the superstar personality, and the ALPHA balls and demeanor of a true leader. It's be like keeping Danny Gare on as captain while Yzerman is there running the team...

Point per game in the playoffs seems good. But when you consider he was at nearly 2 points per game in the regular season, the Jets effectively cut McD in half. The team is just so bad after Drai and McD. The rest of the team is benefiting so heavily from playing with them and the stat boost that comes with it. Holland is in a dangerous Holland spot for Holland. It's very easy to overpay mediocre players in this situation. They need to really look deep into each player and if they are actually benefiting the team in a significant way. I'd like to see him blow it up after this loss. Buy out Koskinen. Release Larsson and Kulikov. Release Chiasson and Nugent-Hopkins. Go hard after Grubauer and Rask. Offer Ovechkin a max short term contract. Hold cap and wait for trades.

Edler is a big gamble. He very much dropped off this season. A 3rd pair pk guy. Signing him or Goligoski is a prepare to be disappointed situation. Both on the wrong side of 35. Expecting him to get back to 40 pts at his age is a pipe dream. Deals for these kinda vets would need to be very cheap and small.

Just tough with the age on Martinez. He had a great year this year but hes 34 now... Edler woulda been a great option for us. He was a 40 pt Dmen at 34 just like Martinez. But now he's 35 and he's dropped off to 15 pts... This is probably Martinez's last contract and payday and not a contract we will ever be able to move. I think I rather invest in a prime aged player like McCabe or Oesterle that we can sell in a few years if needed. Yzerman's done a good job of finding these sellable assets like this like Nemeth, Merrill, Ryan, Namestnikov so far. Helps the rebuild. Though we could go the complete opposite way... sign guys Hjalmarsson and Edler for cheap and hope we can squeeze one last good season out of them... The prime guys like Reilly, Forbort, and Oleksiak I see us having a hard time competing for.
