    SENS TO DUMP HAVLAT?

21 OCTOBER 2005. SENS TO DUMP HAVLAT? HOCKEY CENTRAL (SPORTSNET): Commentators Bill Watters and Nick Kypreos both weighed in last night on Ottawa Senators forward Martin Havlat's suspension for kicking Boston Bruins defenceman Hal Gill, suggesting the club management and coaching staff may be getting tired of Havlat's antics and immaturity. Both believed Havlat isn't a "Bryan Murray-type player" and that Havlat could be shopped soon after his suspension is over. Spector's Note: For all his talent, Havlat has been garnering a reputation for dirty play, one that was only enhanced by his recent suspension. I haven't seen anything yet in the Ottawa media suggesting Havlat's days are numbered but this might be worth keeping an eye on. It's quite possible, however, that this could be baseless speculation by Watters and Kypreos.

    Sens gearing up to deal?

from: http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/ott051013.html Had Holland not jumped the gun on Woolley we could have gotten a promising, decent YOUNG D man to send down to GR instead of Leba.

    if you were kenny

If I'm Kenny and the deadline comes around and my team is sitting in 3 or 4th in the league, I do the following. Shipped Schneider to a team in need of a offensive D man, me thinks possibly a playoff bubble team such as Boston, Canadiens, Penguins, or Panthers. Out of all of em I would deal with any team for a power 2 forward prospects and a late round pick.

it's 4 games into the season, and so far, Cleary has been no more productive than Mowers, but Mowards has not made huge defensive mistakes like Cleary did vs Vancouver. What makes you think Cleary can resurrect his career yet Mowers is doomed to failure? Cleary has shown flashes of upside that I really haven't seen from Mowers. Mowers is a borderline NHLer. Cleary could develop into a solid energy line/PK guy. I mean, Cleary is all ready getting time on the PK in Detroit. Have we ever seen Mowers get any special teams duty? I don't think so. Mowers was never given any sort of ice time under Lewis, and he's played are more sound defensive game with fewer mental mistakes than Cleary this year. Neither have been explosive offensively but both have created chances. I mean, Cleary has made ONE bad play since joining the team. And he made up for that with some very hard work to set up the tieing goal. I have nothing against mowers. But he's not going to get better. He is what he is. What am I missing here? Why are you defending Mowers like I've insulted a future all-star or something.? He's a career 4th line/AHL guy. He was never drafted. He couldn't stick as a fourth liner in freakin' Nashville. He's got 8 goals in 141 games. He's a decent skater. He's versatile. He's cheap. That's why he's in the NHL. He'll never be more than a 4th liner. Ever. He's 31 years old and played 140 NHL games. Cleary obviously has been a disappointment in his career. But that's because he was a first round pick who scored 50 goals in junior. He's got good speed. He can kill penalties. He's four years younger than Mowers. He's got some offensive ability. He works hard. He can hit (unlike Mowers). He's hasn't seen minor league hockey action since 99-00. He's a bonafide NHLer. He's four years younger than Mowers and he's played more than twice the amount of games and scored 5 times more goals. There is no comparison. Cleary is better. Has been better. And he's upside is far better. Why is this even an issue? Why are you defending Cleary like he's a future all-star? People on this board have been ready to kick Mowers off the team for months even though he never did anything to deserve it. Give the guy a chance to play, quit bitching that he's not your ideal player. dude eva chill out dude he's right end of story. He serouisly is right so chill....

I'd still have him finish this year off in Russia and be totally ready to come over to the NHL.

    Saber on the move,

Through STR but from the Buffalo News: http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20051...013/1003083.asp Mair's return to prompt roster move By TIM GRAHAM News Sports Reporter 10/13/2005 TAMPA, Fla. - It looks as though gritty Sabres forward Adam Mair will come off injured reserve and skate tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the St. Pete Times Forum. But the Sabres can't activate Mair until room is made on the roster. Ruff indicated the Sabres would not clear a spot by trading one of their three goalies. "That's probably not a question for me, but I don't anticipate it," Ruff said. The coach was asked if a player would be waived to facilitate Mair's return from a groin injury suffered in the preseason. "In all likelihood, yes," Ruff said. "Someone will have to go. That's a decision we'll have to make. We'd be over the roster if Adam comes off (IR). We'll have to make a move." All signs point to defenseman Jeff Jillson being the one who gets waived. Jillson has been a healthy scratch all four games and is on a two-way contract, meaning he'll be paid a much lower salary than the $833,910 he's making with the Sabres if no other team picks him up and he gets assigned to Rochester. Less likely candidates to be waived are goalie Mika Noronen and enforcer Andrew Peters. Noronen has been a healthy scratch for every game, but he's too valuable to risk losing for nothing. Peters' role has been greatly reduced, but he'll still be needed on occasion. Peters has been scratched once, and in the three games he has dressed he skated a total of 2:43. Ruff also suggested goalie Ryan Miller would start both games of the Florida trip. "Right now, I don't plan on changing," Ruff said. The Sabres dressed seven defensemen in Monday night's overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Ruff said he might continue doing so at least until Dmitri Kalinin is back to full speed while recovering from his groin injury. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - Jillson would be an awesome pick up for this club.
