Pettersson at $11.6m is a disgusting overpay. No thanks. Also no thanks to Marner at $15m. Yzerman should be aggressive this summer and trade a 1st and/or top prospect but not for an overpaid primadonna.

Acquire a young top 4 defenseman to pair with Seider. Go hard to get Nikishin out of Carolina. Not sure what itd cost. Expendable pieces - 2025/26 1st/2nd round picks, roster players Compher/Copp/Rasmussen/Berggren/Chiarot/Gustafsson/Johansson, prospects Lombardi/Buium/Wallinder. Resign Kane. Bring Buchelnikov over/ Danielson/Mazur up from GR. Soda-Larks-Ray Dcat-Marco-Kane Buch-Nate-Vlad Ras-Copp-Mazur Watson Nikishin-Mo Ed-ASP AlJo-Chia Holl Mrazek Talbot Cossa

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?
stephen-gregory-yzerman replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Id rather Yzerman pick up what was essentially a free 4th round pick then any other GM. This was just as much a favor to Yzerman as it was to Brisbois. This was a bad trade for TB imo. There going for it again but the window is rapidly closing. There stars are aging and there cupboard is empty with no 1st round picks in the next 3 drafts. -

Nothing to be upset about here. The team is essentially paying $330k for a 4th round pick. This has zero impact on what Yzerman can or cant do today and tomorrow. Aucoin is a 22yo d prospect that had to be signed this summer or his rights expire. He sucks and wasnt going to be signed he was a nothing throw in. As for helping a divisional rival. Do you think Detroit was Tampas only option to retain salary? If it wasnt Yzerman it woulda been another GM. A 4th round pick doesnt have much value but its essentially a free asset that can be used to select a player (another Lombardi?) or in another trade. I hope Yzerman does something more then this in the next 32 hours, but this trade was a smart way to weaponize all that cap space. -
Lombardi age 20 season - 5G-21A in 70GP Danielson age 20 season - 5G-20A in 45GP Lambo is developing well but Danielson is the far superior prospect.

Maatta is solid but not a difference maker. Getting a 3rd and Johansson regular playing time was worth it imo.

Whats the max $ youd be comfortable signing him? -
Whats not to love about Todd McLellan? I love everything about this coach. Straight forward no bulls*** approach to players and media. Puts in work and demands max effort every shift every game. Trusts and plays the young players and rewards good play. Not even mentioning his systems - less dump and chase more puck possession hockey. McLellan is a great coach and a perfect fit for where this team is at. Look at the difference in play from the most important players on this team. Larks, Ray, Seider have been leading the team all season but theyve all taken it to a whole other level since Todd came in. Kasper and Jo look like completely different players under Todd. Hes done well with Berg and Soda. I look forward to see what he can do with Danielson, Maz, MBN, ASP, ect.

2 completely different players playing in 2 completely different leagues. The SHL is arguably the 2nd best league in the world along with the KHL. Liiga is a distant 4th if its even considered that high. Liiga is probably closer to tier 2 Allsvenskan then it is the SHL in terms of QoC. Imo what Buchelnikov is doing in the KHL is the most impressive of the 3 even being 2 years older. Keep in mind Raymond put up only slightly better numbers then MBN in the SHL in his D+1 season. Kiiskinen is torching the Liiga but if that scoring doesnt translate hes not going to provide much at the NHL level. Theres no question MBNs game will translate to the NHL whether he develops into a top 6 power forward or bottom 6 is the only question with him. I think his ceiling is higher then some give him credit for. ceiling 1. Buch 2. MBN 3. Kisk probability to hit ceiling 1. MBN 2. Kisk 3. Buch

I def keep Finnie over Lambo. Neither have a future in the top 6 on this team and Finnie has the build /play style to be a real good bottom 6. Reminds me alot of Helm. You need guys like that to win in the playoffs.

No. We dont need more small wingers OR dmen. Unless he has Kaprizov/Raymond or Q Hughes/ASP ability Im not interested in any of these small players. jmo -

This team needs to get bigger on the wings not smaller especially if they have any playoff aspirations. You cant have Raymond, DeBrincat, Kane, Berggren, Motte, Hoglander/Savoie on the wings if you want to have success in the playoffs. Ras and Veleno are more valuable to this team in a bottom 6 role then either those players imo. -

Bad trade for a rebuilding team. Miller contract isnt great. Hoglander sucks. If were trading Danielson it better be for a much younger target like Cozens. How much would it cost to get Provorov out of Cbj? -

Compher, Kiiskinen, 1st (top 10 protected) for Cozens. Who says no? -

Larkins a top 20 center overall and in FO%. He might transition to wing later in his career but hes far from that at this point. Compher would have to be part of a Cozens trade. Both have similar production over the past 1.5 seasons. Cozens is 6 years younger and has potential to get back to 60-70pt C he was 2 seasons ago. Comphers $2m cheaper. Compher + mid prospect/high pick should get it done. No thanks on Savard. Id rather go after Provorov or the dream scenario Nikishin. -
So you think Danielson will be better then Cozens? Im skeptical but Id love for Danielson to prove me wrong. To answer my own question above I think Cozens is closer to that 0.8 pts/g then hes playing at right now. If everything goes right for Danielson hes that player. Everything rarely goes right in player development which is why wed have to add.
-
Is Danielson's best case Cozens? Do we think he can get to that level? or beyond? What is Cozens? Is he the 0.8 pts/g player he was 2 seasons ago? Or is he the 0.5-0.6 pts/g player hes been the past 1.5 seasons? What would it cost to get him? Danielson + what?
-
The last thing this team needs is more small wingers. No thanks on Savoie and Hoglander. Sergachev would be a great addition. Can Yzerman acquire him again? What would it cost? Either way Yzerman needs to make another big swing Debrincat level trade again. Cozens isnt redundant if 1 of our centers is going the other way - Compher and/or Danielson.
-
The Canes are desperate for a G right now with Andersen and Kochetkov out. Nikishin may be pretty close to untouchable but if theres any way we could pry him out of Carolina thatd be a huge addition. Assuming hes planning on coming over next season Id offer Lyon and a 2025 1st (top 5 protected) plus a couple other mid assets. Nikishin-Mo / Ed-ASP would be the best top 4 in the league for the next decade with Cossa/Augustine in net wed never get scored on.

Losing Walman hurt. There are 20 Maattas every year in free agency. That was a good trade imo. Andrew Gibson might be as good as Alec Regula some day. another dime a dozen prospect. We also got Jesse Kiiskinen in that trade and hes currently the top u20 scorer in Finlands top league. -

Holl is better then people gave him credit including d!cknose Gustaffson is terrible 5v5 pp he just sucks. Mo and Ed should run each pp unit. AJo should be in the lineup over at least 3 other dmen. Cant wait for this team to get much younger in the next 2 seasons. Replace Copp, Kane, Senko, Fisch, Motte, Watson with Danielson, Mazur, Lombo, MBN, Sodabomb and Chia, Holl, Petry, Gus, Maatta with ASP, AJo, Wally, Buium, and Husso, Talbot with Cossa. This team is gonna **** sh!t up. -
Exactly what every team wants their top prospects exposed to early in development - handed a spot on a losing team. Noone would argue that Kasper is better then Motte Danielson is better then Fischer and ASP is better then Petry but its not about this season its about longterm development. Is it better for them to get 10 mins a night bottom of the lineup no special teams on a losing team or 20 mins a night top 6 all situations on a winning team?

Chiarot isnt terrible but playing way over his head. As a 3rd pair d I think hed be serviceable. Petry sucks. Holl is and has been better for over a year now despite the mis-usage. -

Id rather see Mazur-Kasper-Berggren. Edvinsson-Holl has been our best d pair the last 2 games imo. Johansson has looked good too. -
