Weekes talking about a 3way deal that would send Guenztel to Van. Lindholm to boston. And DeBrrusk to the Pens. Joel Edmundson seems to be a sudden hot commodity now.

How so?

Pretty much everyone thinks that in order to win the Stanley Cup you have to have "elite prospects" right? But do you really? I was just thinking about Bowen Byram. Almost everyone agrees that he's one of the two or three best defensemen in his draft year. The elite of the elite. And pretty much everyone agrees that defense is a really really important position right? So for 2 seasons we had the best player at an extremely important position. So why did he get traded The knee jerk reaction for most people might be "maybe he was on a bad team". But he wasn't. He never missed the playoffs and he played the majority of his career with other legendary players. He was also only concussed a few times. So why traded?

I have an answer, but I want to hear your thoughts first.

What does it even mean to be a "prospect" in hockey?
