We can probably get a 2nd for each of Kane, Sprong, Ghost, and Perron? No? Yes? I wanna keep Fischer. But boy oh buddy boys we could get a lot of extra pretty good picks this year... maybe use them to trade up?

Matt Luff waived yesterday. Means he's finally returning from injury he sustained at training camp. Feel like the guy has mostly been forgotten about - even though he played 20 games for the wings last year. Should be a nice shot in the arm for the Griffins to have him back.

I think ASP more than likely signs his ELC this summer, whether he actually comes over IDK I think Buium should finish his 4 years in Denver (1 more year)

All for bringing the junkyard dog back, but if he wants back it should be pursued in the offseason. Also - Holl is never going back to Toronto. He was their Ericsson. Not only would Holl not waive to go back to the team that blamed him for Matthews not scoring, Toronto managment would be publicly lynched by the fanbase for re-acquiring him. That said, I think Holl has been pretty okay for us, and I don;t mind him.

All Purpose Grand Rapids Griffins Thread

What are the plans for the Griffins this offseason? Sorta like the Wings, they are a bubble team, sitting middle of the league, 3rd in their division. Dan Watson has done a very mediocre job IMO. With most big players playing up to expectations, including prospects Berggren, Edvinsson, and Mazur, and veterans Hirose and Czarnik. However, many of our secondary prospects and vets have floundered. Including Soderblom, Hanas, Kasper, Lombardi, Rafferty, and Cossa. This is longtime ECHL coach Dan Watson's first year at this level, so he's not going anywhere. But I think a few personnel decisions need to be made to help him. Forwards: Berggren --> should be the only forward promoted to the Red Wings next year. Hirose and Czarnik --> good veterans who should be re-signed. Zach Aston-Reese --> great physical grinding forward, that can play a #13 role on an NHL roster, but seems incapable of realistically playing in any sort of top 6 role, including in the the AHL. And IMO should be released after this season. Tim Gettinger --> The teams Rasmussen. I'm happy to keep him for the Griffins sake, but don't expect him to do anything beyond being a career AHL big body. The 3 prospects I would consider replacing Berggren, ZAR, and Gettinger with are Danielson, Buchnelikov, and Finnie. Can we get Buch out of Russia? Are Danielson and Finnie eligible to play in the AHL next year? I honestly don't know. Hoping someone else does. If not, we will have to seek out more vets, or convince a college prospect to forego their degree. Defense: Edvinsson --> should be the only Dman promoted to the Red Wings next year. Johansson and McIsaac --> both should be re-signed. McIsaac's injury troubles have probably derailed his career to the point of bust at this point. But he's still an effective blueliner when healthy, and turns 24 in March. I'm happy to keep him even if he never joins the Wings. Rafferty --> Disappointing season IMO, and we need more from the only true veteran D on the roster. He still has a contract next season. I would consider offering him up for future considerations to free up the roster spot for someone else. The 3 prospects I would consider replacing Edvinsson, and possibly McIsaac and Rafferty, with are ASP, Gibson, and Anton Johansson. Again, not sure if Gibson is eligible to play in the AHL next season. Hoping someone else knows. But if not, I think either or both of ASP and AJ are good choices. But they are also very young still, and I would be fine to leave them in the SHL for another season and pursue another vet. Goalies: Cossa --> should remain as a starter for the Griffins. Hutchinson --> sucks and should be released. Lethemon --> really down year for hm... happy to replace or keep, but he cannot be expected to do anything more than play for the walleye if kept. Trey Augustine is too young to pull out of college, so we will need to find a new vet backup/partner for Cossa. Honestly we should try to bring Calvin Pickard or Magnus Hellberg back to do this. They can be lured back to serve as 3rd string to Husso and Lyon, while Cossa continues to refine his game.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10109560-2024-nhl-stadium-series-how-john-tortorellas-tenacity-has-rebuilt-underdog-flyers Torts is the most underrated coach in this league. He's been maligned because he's a hard ass, who hates the media, and will work you to the bone, but at the end of the day this dude is one solid ass coach and good guy. First part is Marty St. Louis talking to Atkinson about Torts, the rest is self explanatory: Flyers were not expected to be sniffing the playoffs ths year, They are though. And it seems to be all Torts. Damn i wish we had this guy. He's what everyone hoped Babcock would be. Tired of these happy best friend Derek and Jeff coaches.

    Kunuckleheads @ Canuckleheads - 2/15 - 10 PM EST

I think the thing I've really been trying to impress upon everyone this season, and I will again now, is that this was the LAST year of stop-gaps like Chiarot, Holl, Maata, Sprong, Kane, Perron, ect ect. Next season our core becomes high dollar (Seider, Raymond, Rasmussen, Veleno) and we can no longer afford willy nilly stop gaps like SY has enjoyed so far. We will not be able to afford both Kane and Sprong. We will have to start using prospects to supplement the roster. This is fine because we have the prospects... Next year is a big turning point for this team. This is why I want to sell again. Our window is not open enough to make Seider and Raymond the ELC's we exploit for value. But soon our window will be open enough to do this with Kasper, Danielson, ASP, and so on. Patience patience patience

Ghostbear will be replaced by Edvinsson next year. McIsaac and Johansson will replace Maata and Petry the season after that. 2025-26 season: Walman - Seider Edvinsson - Chiarot Johansson - Holl McIsaac With ASP and, Wallinder knocking on the door, ready to take over for Chiarot and Holl the following season. The transition plan looks nice.

So it's: To CGY: Duclair To SJS: 3rd + (50% of Hanafin) To CGY: Berggren + 1st To DET: Hanafin (at 50%) To SJS: Husso + 1st To DET: Kahkonen Why it makes no sense IMO: Both CGY and DET have no reason to seek a 3rd party to retain on Hanafin. Husso and a 1st for Kahkonen is beyond steep. CGY has no reason to acquire Duclair. Hanafin with an extension in place will cost DET more than a 1st and Berggren.

Having good seasons this year: Andrew Gibson Trey Augustine Emmitt Finnie Dimitri Buchnelikov Anton Johansson Shai Buium Red Savage Kinda disappointing so far: Brady Cleveland Noah Dower-Nilsson Dylan James Honorable mention: Brennan Ali - doesn't score a lot but looks like he could be an ideal bottom 6er one day still

Danielson: He had 26 pts in 26 games (+6) for the Wheat Kings this season. Pretty impressive for being on a bad team. Now that he's on the Winterhawks... 19 pts in 12 games (+11). This is what you want to see. He will be holding Bedard scoreless in Wings Hawks games very soon.

    New New Prospects Thread

So ASP is the top scoring under 21 Dman in the SHL. He's 18. He has 19 pts in 39 games. The next best under 19 Dman in the SHL (there's only 5 in the entire league) has 4 pts in 37 games. I think it's fair to say he will be signing his ELC this summer. This kid is on the Seider path of fast track to the NHL. The only difference being is I have no idea how good his actual defense is, and I have no idea if his smaller frame can handle the physicality of NA hockey yet. But he is playing with SHL men, so I am very encouraged. Best case scenario: ASP joins the Griffins next year, and after next year we have 20 year old "Makar-style" Dman on the 3rd line. But that's very ambitious. This is why we should stll be selling. Still be waiting. Still be patient. In 3 years half our defense at the very least will be Seider, Eddogg, ASP, our goalies Cossa and Augistine, and our forwards will be graduating names like Danielson Kasper and co. Then we swing.
