Perhaps we are going about this all wrong... if we are only going to trade for players with term/extensions, we should probably be looking at our needs beyond the immediate future. Going forward the core of the D is: Walman - Seider Edvinsson Then in terms of prospects, almost all our D is LH, besides ASP... and ASP arriving is probably 2-3 years out. If we want a big piece on D we should be adding a RHD. Not only for the future, but a RHer will also not restrict Edvinsson to the 3rd pair for the next 2-3 seasons. This is why I, a businessmen, am a devout SeanWalkerBro

Wont happen. Theyll be a bidding war for him regardless of contract, and this is Hanafins year to get paid. Which is why I, a businessman, identify as a chychbro.

Continued - look at Ras's even strength deployment. He plays more than Perron, Fabbri, and Sprong on average. A couple more seconds a game and he's playing more than Copp. He's played the 3rd most minutes on the team as a forward in total. This kid is BARELY a bottom 6er.

To add - the thing I am most pleased with Ras and Veleno right now, is they are finally forcing Larkin off the PK. Larkin is not the defensive dynamo that Zberg and Dats were, and those two didn't even play the PK as much as Larkin has. Larkin is a scorer and you want his time dedicated to even strength and PP. Compher was huge for the PK this year, but Ras and Veleno's emergence are finally putting Larkin where he needs to be. And it has been fantastic for our top6.

I agree with you - but I guess I'd also say Ras is a bit better than a bottom 6er. A 6'6" 220lb wing/center that kills penalties, and tracks to put up 40 pts a season, and is about to hit 300 games played at age 25, is pretty valuable. His best years are still ahead of him. Hanafin is a more valuable piece in theory, but Ras is not a piece I at all want to give up right now. They can have Berggren+ instead.

Not really much available in goalies. If the Kings miss, which it's looking like they will with PLD being trash, Kopitar being gassed, and the recent coach firing... best option I think is Talbot. Only a $1 mil cap hit too. Just waive Reimer (35+ contract, but I don't care). Otherwise, maybe Kaapo Kahkonen with SJS? His numbers probably shoot up on a decent team, he's still young, and could be re-signed in the offseason. Only options worth it at D, IMO, are swapping Maata for Hanafin or Chychrun.

    Waiver Wire

Dont normally comment on waiver bros, but I really like how Axel Jonnson-Fjalby plays. WPG just waived him. The Jets have been losing their best depth guys to waivers all year this year cause of Logan Stanley (who theyre trying to trade) jamming up the roster. Looks like AJF is the next to go. Id claim him if we have a spot. 26 yo LW. Plays a very fast up tempo game, and is real good on the forecheck.

Ray, Ras, and Mos extensions are going to completely fugg us out of money this summer. If we add Hanafin or have any desire to add significant pieces in UFA, trades have to happen. This would be sick next year: DCat - Larkin - Kane Compher - Stamkos - Raymond Ras - Copp - Fischer Kostin - Veleno - Berggren Walman - Seider Hanafin - Chiarot Edvinsson - Holl Husso Lyon

I guess we could always wait and look to make a trade at the draft. Or qualify Ras and Veleno and look for summer moves. Buyout Petry. Trade Fabbri. I think a Maata + Buium + 1st package makes sense.

I hear ya and dont disagree It's just more of a hockey trade than a deadline trade. At the TDL I'd ideally like to trade futures instead of actively contributing roster players. It's also two bottom 6 centers. Wouldnt kill our depth by any means, but in injury scenarios it might not feel good either. But i guess maybe Hanafin makes up for that.

I think this is the main reason Hanafin won't happen for us. We really cannot afford to give Hanafin the extension he needs, and we've not reached a point yet where this level of rental is acceptable. Unless we are willing to send Calgary immediate salary obligations, ala Ras, Veleno, Maata, etc. And I do think you would have to send all 3 or at least 2/3 to make an extension feasible. Maata + Veleno + Ras for Hanafin, with whatever outlying massage picks from both teams to make it happen. Doesn't seem prudent for us to upgrade the defense with an older Dman at the cost of younger forwards right now.

    Eddog vs. Seider

These bloggers have the exact wrong approach. "Midseason report card" is beyond trite. And i dont respect their takes. If i want to read something like that ill go to a real journalist at the athletic or something. What they should be writing is articles like "wings forwards ranked by chadness" or "3 current wings that will turn you gray". I would be posting those on here all day and fiercely debating them.

What Babcock didnt understand was respect. Respect the process, but also respect the game. Cant respect the game if you dont respect the players playing the game. And if you give respect, you get respect. Thats called the economy of respect. But you cant be giving respect without first respecting yourself. Thats called self respect. Bidness of hockey 101

I concure with you both. We are more idea guys. Men of vision. Odds? Points? Leave that to accounting. I want to know your thoughts on Seiders swagger. Will it be enough to attract the Mankos this offseason? Is it true swagger if he refuses to wreck shop? Perhaps he is only leaving shops open until playoffs?

Well Finnie plays for Kamloops, and they are by far the worst team in the WHL right now. Is he simply the shiniest piece of poop on a poop team? Or is he actually really good and his teammates suck? IDK, I've never watched him play. I think it will be hard to say until he moves to a different team. But I do remember him be described as a super hard-working sleeper pick. Seems like he is indeed putting in the work.

As of today money puck gives us exactly 50.3% chance of making the playoffs. Our chances have definitely improved, but it's still borderline, and we have to maintain this pace if we want to get there. Adding at the TDL will help, but boy it would suck to add and miss...
