It's basically Kuzmenko + high 2nd + cond 4th + Brzustewcz Kuzmenko reminds me of Nikolai Zherdev. Fantastic offensive ability, but a blackhole outside of that. The 32nd overall could very well end up being nothing. Brusttewwicz is the real piece I like. But that could dud out too. I think this is a pretty fair trade for a guy like Lindholm. Calgary just needs at least one of the 3 main pieces to hit to make it worth while.

Rags shopping Kaako. He's going to turn 23 in 2 weeks. He had 40 pts last season, but only 6 pts in 28 games this year (injury kept him out a while). And he's under RFA control. IMO he plays solid in the corners and is responsible on D. Rags arent sellers, so they want roster players in return. Might be interesting to flip an expiring contract for him. Next year we run Husso/Lyon, Lyon/Husso, unless a change is made. Reimer is gone, and Cossa get's promoted to 3rd string. If it goes anything like this year, Cossa will get chances.

IMHO Yzerman is playing a VERY dangerous game. In his shoes I wouldn't do the same. But he's playing this game extremely well so far, which is exactly why I respect him as the expert at this point. The game is this dangerous balancing act of supplementing your team with good UFA's, but still building your prospect pool with good picks. I would have just signed Ryan Reeves and co and waited till I have a bunch of Bedards. Clearly SY has a very good scouting staff (amateur and pro) and he;s limited himself to UFA's with term. This could very well be seen as a half assed, very mid, approach for any GM, but he's executed it with surprising success.

And Lyon is dining on recency bias... Lyon is older than Gibson and has played in 59 NHL games... over a 1/3 of which come from this season. Gibson meanwhile has 450+ games played, and has only seen his numbers slightly decrease since the Ducks became a non-playoff team. I bet you thought Ned and Husso were great too, until they weren't. I'm loving Lyon's season too, but the hard truth is this isn't going to last. Find me any non-wings fan that would prefer to build their net out around Lyon than Gibson and I'll eat my words.
