BSome pro Derek spin: My jimmies were hella rustled like a week ago when he played Petry more minutes than Seider in yet another embarrassing loss. However, Seider was playing hurt the other night against the Caps. Maybe it was a similar situation last week too. And Ive been hella critical of his use of Petry in general. However, maybe this is just a coach making the most of a bad situation? The only alternative to Petry on the right hand side is Holl. Holl was a hated Pylon in Toronto, and Derek will hardly ever play him. Sucks that Petry isnt very good, but Derek is just playing the better of two bad Dmen. Hard to fault him for that. Ive also been mad that he asked SY to trade for Petry. However, I think we have to realize that SY went out and delivered him a terrible Dman in Holl, and unhappy about it, Derek saw an oppurtunity to get something (hopefully) better in Petry. What Im trying to say is that this is all mostly Yzermans fault. Its been an uncharacteristically kinda not good season for the captain. The good = JTC was an awesome signing. The good, but how much credit should he get? = Dcat trade was awesome, but it also just fell into his lap. And that helped lead to the Kane signing, so in a way that too also fell into his lap (Kane has also said Derek was very involved in getting him to sign). The bad = the Holl signing is egregious. That much money and that much term for a 7th dman? BAD. 1 year later and hes going to have to give up picks or use a buyout to get out from under that contract. More bad = the Kostin trades were terrible. Eating salary on two different players for a 7th. Not good. Even more bad = being hopeful enough not to sell, but not hopeful enough to buy, at the TDL was fence sitting regardation. Instead of picking a clear direction for his team, now were just mildly fuqqed from both angles. Medicority at its finest. The only thing worse than being bad in a league that rewards teams for being bad, is being perpetually not good enough to make the playoffs or draft a difference maker. Cursed cycle of medicority. Still more bad = Another failed goalie in Husso. Searching for another goalie every summer has gotten ridiculous at this point. And this one we might have to buyout. Not good. SY has to solve the Holl problem effectively this summer or my "trust in the plan" will be damaged. IMO its probably the biggest mistake of his tenure thus far.

Id like to let everyone walk. Kane isnt coming back. This was his see i can still play year. Hes proved that, and will be done with our mess. Sprong and Perron can go bye bye. Dont get to keep ur friends when u miss the playoffs. Fischer is okay, but if Derek isnt gonna use him on the PK, then hes a plug. Let him go. On defense I think Ed is going to have to be the Ghost replacement. We will need him to have a major coming out year. Takeover 2nd unit PP duties and knock Petry off 2nd unit PK. Asking a lot, but we need it. Kane, Perron, Sprong is a lot to replace in terms of offensive forwards. I think we have to go all in for Stamkos. We need a weapon like that. Even if Kane stays. Then on the PK we have got to get Larkin off the 2nd unit. The cheap option I want is Tyler Motte out of Tampa. Played with Larks, Copp, and JTC in college. But theres some higher end options there too. Thinking Lindholm, Wennberg, or Henrique. Only way we fix the D and Net is if SY pulls off some more drastic moves. But at forward I think we will be able to get what we need.

IDK wtf u guys are surprised about. Ive been raging and dooming since the TDL for a reason. U dont stand pat as a bubble team and expect to win. Derek and Stephen seriously brought this team to another level this year, and then both seriously fuqqed it not 6 months later. Its sad. And u should be mad. Im not watching next season if Derek is still employed. This guy makes the whole "blashill is a good coach who never had a good roster" argument actually legit. Even jeff didnt bungle a good thing this bad Ill check back in when im done watching the oilers. Fuqqin loser team deserves no attention.

Maata plays 16 min a night. No PP. No PK. Has more healthy scratches than anyone besides Holl. Is trusted with the least amount of shifts out of everyone besides Holl. Doesnt score and doesnt play with any physicality. This is a 6/7 Dman on any team. We should be trying to get out from under his 3mil last remaining season if anything. 10/10 bad take Ghost is also a terrible Dman. Which is why he gets basically no even strength shifts. His literal only value is QBing the PP because he's a 5'6" forward pantomiming as a Dman. No serious contender would ever have him rostered at anything close to what hes currently making. But unlike Maata, he can at least pass and provide PP value. 8/10 bad take Maata, Ghost, Petry, and Holl are all total garbage and should be jettisoned ASAP. I do have some concerns about replacing Ghosts production from the backend, but thats a responsibility that should be passed to Edvinsson at this point. Even if Ed takes a while to get up to speed. ASP should also be signed this summer and fast tracked into an NHL role. He's extremely good.

I suspect Veleno will be re-signed again, at a similar price for another year. A. Because he doesnt have much trade value B. Because he's a cheap RFA controlled 4C plug C. Because he just turned 24, and we can afford to wait and see if he develops more

Can't remember which loss it was, either cats or canes I think, but Newsy said the most infuriating thing post game. Something along the lines of "well we're not even supposed to be here" in reference to losing (again) while competing for playoff spot. What kind of jackass logic is that? Well you are there regard. And your GM didn't sell to gain assets in order to keep you there. So, ya know, the whole "no big deal" attitude, is beyond bad optics to most fans... and probably worse internally... How are the players supposed to react to statements like that? "Dont worry about playing awful and dropping another one guys, we weren't even supposed to be in the playoffs this year". Does he thinks this motivates them??? Forgiving their awful play and dismissing our goal of the postseason because in Derek's magical personal timeline of fate we arent SUPPOSED to be where we are? The coach whom Im supposed to respect and follow is two-faced and says one thing in public and another to us. Wonder who he's talking out the side of his neck to today, me or the media? I wouldnt be very happy if I was Patrick Kane, and I got lured here with promises of pushing for the playoffs, for the coach to non-chalantly suggest we arent expecting to make the playoffs. IMO its extremely important to have a clear message on all fronts when your leading anything. When anyone in my department at work starts sending emails that are even slightly not insync with the image/goals/message I want, I nip that in the bud hard everytime. Optics/perception/message matters. To your team and to those outside it. Im convinced this guy is sending mixed signals or his signals are just plain bad. 24 year old, former 1st round pick, Kostin now has 8 pts in 12 games for the Sharks. Theyre not even giving him big ice time or any special teams time. Theyre simply giving him regular 3rd/4th line minutes, unlike Derek.
