Ghost is a PP specialist. Never gonna be solid in his own end. Likely gone at the TDL or after this season.

Yup. I think we will be lucky to get Seider on an 8x8. With what he provides he can command more, especially with thecap going up this year, and rising expectations every year after. Though a bridge deal might help us in the short term, i think its better to pay this kid now on a huge contract. Set him up to be a wings lifer and show our commitment.

If yall wanna claim Ed was good in his first game this year, by all means act stupid. No skin off my balls.

He wasn't great... multiple bad pinches leading to multiple odd man rushes. And now he's been sent back down. It's almost like Yzerman know's what he's doing, and Edvinsson still needs more time in the AHL, and you can all STFU now.

Amazing the effect a good coach has
  8. HOW? If we re-sign Kane, Ghost, and Sprong for exactly what they are paid now, no raises, we will have literally no money to re-sign Raymond and Seider and Ras and Veleno. Sprong is almost certainly headed to UFA. After his last two seasons he has a big payday coming his way, and he hasn't made much money yet in his career. Ghost will almost certainly be replaced by Edvinsson to save money. And Ed is already a better Dman. Ghost is an extra forward. I would love to keep Kane, but he will have to keep his salary low for us. If he loves playing with Dcat and the gang, I can see that possibly happening. But the former two have been gone this coming summer since we signed them.

How do you guys expect to re-sign these guys, let alone sign Stamkos? Are Seider and Raymond taking HUGE discounts? Are we somehow unloading Copp and Chiarot? Seriously.

BIG game tomorrow. Seeding on the line. I'm jacked - superbowl mood.
  11. I welcome the debate - but i think this team should have sold Larkin along with Hronek and Bertuzzi. Larkin was in their age group and it made sense if you are selling those players. Now Larkin will be in his 30s in a few short years and will be decling... Maybe we pull off a master stroke and he's the grizzled vet on those future teams. But boi thats quite a long shot right now.
  12. and the real thing I really start to worry about is ownership.... BRING BACK YZERMAN that'll shut the fans up. SIGN KANE that'll shut the fans up. The same crap the Lions and the Pistons have done for years. It works.
  13. 2 wins in the last 10 games. I hope SY truly has some bigger vision here that I don't understand, because we are now 9 years into a rebuild, 5 years of which are Yzermans... It's starting to become sad in a new way. I still "trust" Yzerman. His tenure has been generally great. You can't really blame him for the goaltending problem as he has he has gone out of his way to address it every year. What I am starting to finally blame him for are the signings like Holl, Chiarot, Perron, Fabbri, Copp, Kubalik, Kane, Maata, Compher, and so on and so forth. I would have argued before that the idea was to build a winning culture, while at the same time doing so by acquiring pieces you can sell every year to accelerate your rebuild through depth of draft picks. But of those names I just listed what are we going to get for them? 3rd rounder at best? I'm sorry but that's not going to move needles. And for worse, now we will be drafting at 10-15 instead of 1-5.... Seriously, the yzerplan has the potential to become a nightmare soon. BUT THE CUPBOARDS ARE FULL NUMBER9!!!. Yea they are full of players like Mazur who might be Bertuzzi, and Lombardi who might be AA, and Berggren who might be Nyquist. I'm starting to seriously believe we should have run this squad into the ground the last 3 years instead of building up an artificial OKAY team like we have.... Yzerman isn't god. He came into Tampa with Marty St. Louis, Stamkos, Lecavellier, and Hedman. He's never faced the immense challenge he is now. We are now going to be forced to sign Seider and Raymond to huge contracts... So much for exploiting their younger years on cheap deals to push us over the edge. Is Raymond the game breaking forward we needed him to be? Doesn't appear so sadly. He's good, but we drafted a young Perron, not another Zberg or Dats. But all of this we can get through in time. Especially if we have a good coach. But sadly the worst decision SY has made is Derek. This guy is playing checkers and does not understand his own roster. This is just as bad if not worse than Blash. If SY can move on quickly like with Guy Boucher my faith will be semi restored, but boy he will take some heat from ownership for that failed hire while being already 5 years into his master plan... You still trust the yzerplan right?

No Goalies -Kostin Wings vs Flyers Redux

Goal-tending has been trash this year, but Lalonde isn't doing anything within the realm of appropriate to cover for that weakness. For example, when Babs saw his entire defense become complete poopy besides Kronwall (DK, KFQ, Kindl, Smith, Ouellet, and Marchenko rounding out the roster) he appropriately buttoned down the hatches, and it worked. Why? Because he correctly identified that still had superb defensive forwards in his forward group, like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Helm, Glendening, and others, as well as a decent enough goalie in Howard. So he could go into a low event shell (and play entire games this way), and his forwards and goalie would cover for his terrible D. It sucked for us fans to watch, but it worked and we still managed to make the playoffs. THIS team is not built at all the same way. 1. We have no Howards - our net is trash 2. The only good shutdown defenders we have are Walman and Seider, and in fact we have multiple purely offensive minded Dmen like Ghost and Petry. 3. We have exactly ZERO stalwart defensive forwards. Our best probably being Compher (And DO NOT tell me Dylan zero Selke votes Larkin is some kind of Zberg or Dats). What this team does well is SCORE. Dcat, Larkin, Raymond, Kane, Ghost, Seider, Compher, even Walman is hitting the stat sheet like never before in his career. We are not built to back off. If we backoff our terrible goalies get lit up and there's no one to stop that. If Lalonde was intelligent he would have realized this 20 games ago. We HAVE to play a full 60, and we HAVE to go for number 6 and 7 when we are up by 5. It's the only way. Fuq Derek this guy is trash.

GDT Red Wings @ Jets 12/20/23: Holy Smokes We Need A Win

There was an article on r/hockey today naming every teams 3 biggest rivals. Maybe not surprisingly but the leafs were listed as top 3 rival for almost every team. Kinda disagree with this, bc it's just clearly that every fan just hates the leafs. But they listed Detroits 3 biggest rivals as Ottawa, Leafs, and the Bruins. I super disagree with that. It should be Leafs, Avs, Hawks. I know the Hawks and Avs rivarly is kinda dead. But I still hold way more malice in my heart for the Avs and the Hawks than I do the Sens and even the Bruins. Like Ottawa might have our number over the last 2 years, but they are a joke team, and still a joke team, and that's not a top 3 rivalry for us IMO. And I hate the Bruins too, but like when did we ever have a major fued with them? General Chicago-Detroit rivalry is always way bigger in any spot than Detroit-Boston. And Avs just hold a special place in most of our hearts as an intense rival. There hasnt been a consistent playoff rival like that since.

Larkin should have been sold at the TDL along with Bertuzzi and Hronek. You use hometown BS to attract players, not to irrationally keep them around. Now we limp through mediocrity with mediocre players propping us up.

Makes sense that SY would hire a guy out of his former organization. But this is our Guy Bouche. We are still waiting for Jon Cooper. SY must know some more lawyers who wanna coach. Best thing thing about a lawyer is he's only going to tell you what he wants you to know. That's all these boys need to know.

I think @GMRwings1983 said he would hire Saddam Hussein if it meant we stop playing like batch boys. 100% this. I want to hire Torts. I want Torts to bring a gun to practice. Nuff said.

lol f*** lalonde. Last year I (mostly) held my tongue. It was a break from Jeff and, despite my problems with his personnel decisions, things were generally better. But jesus it only took 30 games for this team to digress back into a total fuqqing nightmare. And there's no Zadina and co to blame anymore. One more stab at this next season Derek and then I start turning on Yzerman. I dont understand why we continually host these "nice" coaches that everyone likes? Can we PLEASE go back to abusive winning coaches like Bowman and Babs? Bring in Peters to say the N word a few hundred times, IDGAF. Do what it takes to win. Beat and molest these boys if you have to. Is that so much to ask?

Jets made THREE line changes while maintaining possession in the offensive zone the entire time. Outcoached? More like completely fuqqing cucked. Jets do the little things right and grind it out. Wings falter at the first sign of adversity. Good . Great. Grand.

Kaner keeping me sane. I just don't know how we get rid of Copp, Holl, or Chiarot. I'm content to just pretend I love them till the contracts are over. I HATE that one of the problems with this team in coaching AGAIN. It's such a cliche to rag on the coach, BUT f*** how is this not a problem? If he has even said a friendly "hello" to one of his players in the last 5 games he should be shot. Losers don't get greetings. The come to jesus moment needs to happen FAST.
