Ha. I just checked the box score from last night. Derek played Petry - by far the worst Dman on this team - more minutes than Seider - by far the best Dman on this team - last night. In a must win game. This is your coach folks. It's almost unbelievable at this point. I feel bad for Holl. Guy cant even get into the lineup while Petry gets awarded more and more ice time for making terrible passes and puck watching while it goes into the back of the net. Whats Yzerman even supposed to do? Buyout the guy his coach plays like hes top4 material? This is fuqqing sad at this point. Im more than suspicious that Derek isnt even this dumb... hes playing Petry to try and cover his own ass. The ass that pushed SY to acquire this guy. If thats at all the case then hes actively hurting his team to protect his own job. Babs and Bowman were ego driven too... but not dumb enough to accept losing to protect it. I see Jalonen is stepping away from Jokerit as well. Problem with these KHL guys, is they are essentially NHL rookies. Not only do they have no expierence coaching in this league, they dont know any of the players, trainers, other coaches, refs, etc. Super green. I wouldnt want one as a fresh HC, and im not sure id want two as AC. When SY hired Derek it was widely talked about that Yzerman only likes to hire guys he knows already. Hence why we got stuck with doofus Derek. But because of this Feds might have the in that others lack.

None of the middle of the packers (most of the team) have the cache to truly lead the room. Whether they tried to step up or not. That much is proven by exhibit A at this point. Raymond and Seider are too young and green still to carry that respect as well. Its obvious the players look to Larkin as the big dog in the room, so his absence is devestating to morale. Now we are just spiraling without any confidence. Team has quit at this point and cant/wont pull itself out. In Larkins absence, firing up and inspiring this team should fall on Derek. He either failed to grab those reins, or whatever he tried did not take. Either way, he doesnt have a good grip on the dynamics of his room. Derek is kill

Dcat started off fine and has gotten progressively worse. Derek moved him around on the PP which didnt help, but his manlove with Kane should fixed him at some point. IDK what bagel bosses issue is. Hes the new Zadina. Chiarot is really not as bad as Scott would tell you. He was a total beast in MTL because they let him run around and play super aggressive while Weber anchored the pairing. Thats why I originally thought hed be awesome with Mo. But its clear Derek is never going to let him play like that. So hes kinda just a meh minute eater now. SY should have been smarter about Petry. Pens and Habs were playing hot potato with him cause they knew he was cooked. And he is. But again Derek pounded the table for him and SY trusted his coach... Copp is much like Chiarot IMO. Really not that bad, and playing more of a defensive role than he did with the Rags. That helps take a lot pressure off Larkin. I think folks just dont like the contract. Sprong is Sprong. I like what hes brought for the contract. Same with Fischer and Fabbri, when Fabs is healthy. Perron is just getting old. He was great last year. Husso is another casuality on Yzermans endless goalie carousel. Watch Lyon suffer the same fate next year. Compher is a total G and is really good. But yes you would think these vets could step up in times of need. But middle of the pack players need stars to lead them, or at the bare minimum a better coach.

Debrincat should 300% be on the market this summer. If it means Kane not re-signing so be it. There is no reason to prop up this team with 36 year old superstars. Husso and Holl should be bought out. 5 years into Yzermans rebuild and we are already buying out bad contracts again. I swear to god, if he re-signs Perron I'm going to start calling him Loserman. Coach regardsy can have his old job back and join Blash with the bolts. Hiring him and loading up this season is about the dumbest "planning" Yzerman has ever done. Feds has also won the KHLs jack adams twice. His teams are known for rallying when down. Down in a game or playoff series, they come back and pot a bunch goals or win 3 playoff games in a row to win a series. Something Derek could learn... Feds also loves to pull his goalie in OT and go high stakes empty net powerplay. Side note. Been reading about Larionov as well since this news broke. Some Russian sources have been saying they expect Lari will quickly be handed an NHL job when/if he decides he wants one. He is regarded as a brilliant tactitcian in most all hockey circles. Hes only been coaching a short time in the KHL so far though.

Hes already been a very succesful KHL coach and GM. And he chose coaching over management. His post NHL career makes Gretskys look regarded, even if it is KHL. And correction to my OP. Moscow did make the playoffs this year, they just went out early. 2nd round I believe.

ALL HANDS ON DECK Sergei Fedorov is leaving CSKA Moscow as of today. Unclear yet whether he was fired or chose not re-sign. He missed the playoffs this year, but won back to back gagarin cups as HC in the two previous years. Bob Duff published an article a year ago, in which Slava Bykov says Feds has been encouraged to pursue the NHL and wouldnt be surprised if he makes the jump as his next challenge. Mike Illitch is dead, I doubt Chris has the same bad blood for Feds. Bring in Feds as AC and then retire 91??? Once Derek blows it again next season, sack him and replace with Feds? Well... here we are I've been waiting to make this post, but I think it's finally time The Situation We are likely going to miss the playoffs. And we also won't have the cap space to make the team better in the offseason. In fact many of our players will walk in UFA for nothing, and it's very likely the team may get worse. On top of that, we also won't be drafting high, or in number. The vicious cycle of mediocrity is staring us in the face. Before I suggest what the yZerPLaN should do about it, I want to address some hard truths... Tough Pills For Swallowing This team is never going to win a cup with Larkin at 1C He isn't a defensive stalwart, but his offense is pretty good. Still, he's not within the realm of the NHL's elite centers. But he would be one of the best 2C's in the league if we could only find the player to bump him down. At the same time, the loss of Larkin in the lineup completely destroys this team. Which shows just how awful this team as a whole truly still is. Larkin is the cheap bandaid masking our flaws Larkin should have been sold at the 2023 deadline. It would have netted us a kings ransom in return, and another $8.7 million to spend on the rest of the lineup. Instead Larkin will be just good enough to keep us propped up in the mediocrity zone. The manlet isn't very good Debrincat has scored only 7 regulation goals in the last 52 games. This is not the high-end sniper one should consider as part of a scoring core. He's not worth the contract he's on, and that contract sets a bad precedence for young wingers like Raymond in need of new contracts. He really brings nothing else to the team if he's not potting goals. And he's not potting goals. Seider has been neutered by "da system" Love the fight the other night, but the Mo we fell in love with doesn't exist within the current state of the team. Aggression and creativity are at an all time low. He's Derek's robot out there, and this doesn't maximize any of his god given natural talent. I once argued Mo was designed to be the perfect leader/captain. Now I doubt this. In the words of Herb Brooks, "I wanted the guy who wouldn't take the test". Lyon is not a starting goalie He's strung together about 18 good performances out of 37. Or basically 50/50 chance we have an NHL goalie in net each night. He's played in 39 NHL games before reaching Detroit and is on the wrong side of 30 Yzerman has again failed to secure the net position, despite annual attempts, for the last 5 years Edvinsson is nothing special This will probably garner the biggest reaction, but I stand by it. I do not see a superstar in the making in the slightest. An NHL player yes, but not the serious difference maker everyone initially expected. The raw talent and size is there, but he has no idea how to use it. I see him topping out as a Brad Stuart. Useful 2nd pairng defender. I feel similarly about Cossa and Kasper at this point. Contributors, but not difference makers. The only exciting prospect we have is ASP Berggren is actually pretty good, and this team is mismanaging him Kid should have been on the roster to start the season. Instead the red wings would rather waste money on Kostin and time on Czarnik to bury him. Sad and stupid. Yzerman is not infallible Not trading Larkin and loading up with Debrincat and Kane are looking like serious mistakes.Then doubling down on this team at the 2024 TDL made it even worse. This is not even considering the other bad contracts and trades he's executed. I still have faith in the man that he will aggressively address our current problems Newsy needs to be gonesy No explanation necessary What do we do? I don't have a magic solution. All I know is standing pat (like we did at the the TDL) isn't the solution, and true solutions require bold decisions. And I do not consider trading Fabbrii, Maata, and/or Veleno for scraps to be a bold solution. Same with buying out Husso or Petry. What I would propose for bold is trading Dcat and Edvinsson. Those are trades that would actually the net serous assets we need. Players or picks. I would refer picks. We are also at the point where we either need to just call Cossa up, or acquire an actual proven goaltender Few actions this summer will lock us into the mediocrity cycle. Praying Yzerman isn't dumb enough to continue pursuing the Holland "we like our team path"... Oh and LOLande should be fired ASAP

Yzerman screwed the year and is going to have to back track now to resolve it. Deep down each one of you know Kasper and Edvinsson are not going to suddenly catapault this team to anything.
