Smart play or being a sissy...?

He was SOOOO good at rustling the jimmies of Doughty and Kassian in his Calgary days. Two grown ass vets losing their marbles over an 18-20 year old kid. I lost some respect for those two during those years. They would have their lil freakout and then Tkachuk would just do the same antagonistic crap the very next play. It's like bros... HE WANTS YOU TO REACT LIKE THAT. That reaction is only going to show him it's working and he'll do it MORE. Learn to keep your composure... I have a lot of respect for Matt Tkachuk because of those years too. Agree with his approach to the game or not, there's pretty much no one too big or bad that he won't fuqq with. And he's never dissuaded from playing that way by a fight or scrum. He just does it again. Kid plays the way he's gonna play and doesn't change it for anybody.

Send Edvinsson down. Put AJo in the lineup. Bench Gus. Callup Holl. Callup Watson. Fire Yzerman. Easy.

In regard to the goalies, there's that saying in football: if you have two quarterbacks you have actually have zero quarterbacks. We have 3 goalies. Agreed on the bottom 6. Was looking forward to Watson.... too bed

Smart play or being a sissy...?

    >be Forsberg >lemme try this steal >darn it's a board battle >oh no i lost the battle because the bigger stronger guy used the body on me >guess i better throw a weak gloved punch to the face of the guy who other players literally bounce off of when they hit him To forsbergs credit he got a couple good swings in when Mo was still trying to get his gloves off and establish his footing. But once Mo did that he took over the fight. Good on Forsberg for not going down either.

Smart play or being a sissy...?

Well Tkachuk isn't a nancy by any stretch, and he's a known s*** disturber, so he was prolly just trying to goad Frederic into a fight so he takes a penalty. Is that honorable? No. Is it a tactic? Yes.

Yea the 4th has zero identity. Motte PK's, Veleno seems like a roleless plug we're just hoping develops into something. And then with Berggren it's like oh yeah you still exist, you might as well just play here too... lol I would guess the same at 2C and 2RHD as well. Just waiting for Kasper Danielson and ASP at this point.

It should be Rasmussen, but Derek has opted to move him to the PP to start developing his net front instead. This is good. Why Derek still doesnt trust Fish on the PK is baffling. He killed penalties for Arizona b4 he came to us, and I thought that's why we nabbed him. I honestly didnt expect him to be given an offer to return bc Derek didnt use him on the PK last year. If you're a grinding bottom 6 forward that doesn't PK what's the point?

Good guys lines per Ansar Khan: Debrincat - Larkin - Raymond Tarasenko - Compher - Kane Rasmussen - Copp - Fischer Motte - Veleno - Berggren Chiarot - Seider Edvinsson - Petry Maata - Gustafsson Husso Talbot PP1: Compher - Larkin - Kane Raymond - Gustafsson PP2: Berggren - Rasmussen - Debrincat Seider - Tarasenko PK1: Compher - Copp Chiarot - Seider PK2: Larkin - Motte Edvinsson - Petry Bad guys lines per Matt Vensel: O'Connor - Crosby - Beauvillier Bunting - Malkin - Rakell Mcgroarty - Eller - Puljujarvi Hayes - Glass - Acciari Grzelcyk - Letang Pettersson - Karlsson Graves - St. Ivany Jarry Blomqvist PP1: Malkin - Crosby - Rakell Karlsson - Letang PP2: Bunting - Eller - Puljujarvi Grzelcyk - Hayes PK1: Eller - O'Connor Pettersson - Letang PK2: Acciari - Bunting Graves - Grzelcyk Outside of their big four the Penguins suck balls. Especially their bottom 6 and bottom pairing D. Need to exploit those matchups with our superior depth. However, that 1st unit PP of there's looks deadly, so stay out of the box. Some of their scrappier guys, like O'Connor, Acciari, and Bunting, are going to try to drag us into it. IMO Copp's line should be matching against that strong Malkin line. Then use Larkin and his line to shutdown Crosby. That leaves JTC's line, with Tarasenko and Kane, to feast on the rest of their ass team. Lets go boys, need a strong start to the season.

    2024 Pre-Season Thread

Forget all that! Newsy just said in todays media availability that this is Thursdays roster. So no intention on bringing up Wats or Kasper to play yet. Looks like SY is gonna optimize his cap to the fullest this season... which means he probably expects playoffs and TDL acquisitions. Cool. So Watson probably does report to GR for Fridays game. He's probably the first callup when injury strikes.

This is exactly why the Nucks traded Poolman to the Avs yesterday. By dumping Poolman they no longer have any players on LTIR and can start to acrue cap space. By the TDL they will likely have acrued more space than Poolman would've given them on LTIR. The Avs on the other hand already have doods on LTIR so it's no bother really to take another. Kinda a whack system if you ask me, I'd prefer the simplicity of a hard cap instead of calculating every teams cap hit everyday. But whatevs. Means nothing really. He cleared waivers today, so he has to be assigned to the Griffs now. He's likely still practicing with the Wings and he'll be a scratch for the Griffs until Derek decides to use him. Which is probably Thursday. I think this because Watson explicitly stated he wanted a 1way NHL contract. He didnt get that, so maybe he caved, or more likely IMO Stevie talked him in to a 2way for cap purposes, with the promise he wouldn't actually be assigned to the Griffs. But I could be wrong and this is to give Kasper a chance to play. If so, Marco would be called up Thursday. Or they don't intend to play Watson until an injury occurs. If either of those are the case we probably should actually send Wats to GR so he can stay in game shape. We'll see Thursday!

    Rumors Thread

I don't agree. Walman and Fowler play a totally different game. Walman is a positional shot blocking Dman that kills penalties, and doesn't offer much in the Ozone besides a really hard shot. Fowler is a puck distrubting PP QB that isn't expected to kill penalties. Their games are totally opposite. It's also pretty clear based on the rumors and comments that Walman was cast out due to lockerroom issues. With that context, acquiring another Dman isn't so absurd. However Ducks would have to take someone like Maata back in a deal IMO. We also got Kiiskanen back in the Gibson trade. While not as valuable as Gibson, he's still an exciting prospect, and that deal wasn't fruitless. I'd be fine trading for Fowler... but I'd prefer to see how this defense plays first before we start tinkering.

The cRaZy blockbuster I'd want to see is: To ANA: Veleno + Maata + Talbot + Holl + 1st + 2nd To DET: Fowler + Gibson Maata and Talbot would replace Fowler and Gibson for the Duckies. Holl is a cap dump to make the deal work. Veleno and our 1st + 2nd is the positive compensation to them for the upgrade. Cat - Larkin - Ray Tarasenko - JTC - Kane Ras - Copp - Fish Bergs - Kasper - Watson Motte Fowler - Seider Ed - Gustafsson Chiarot - Petry Ajo Gibson/Husso

    Norwegian Flood Gate?

We may really have something here in MBN... Multiple Norwegian outlets are reporting a "tense" meeting took place between the Wings and MBN and his agent, during which the SY & Co made it clear they want MBN on the Griffs NOW. But that MBN and his agent stood firm on returning to Sweden to play with Skelleftea. Skelleftea is ASP's team. They won the championship last year, and basically kept the entire group together to go for a back to back this year. IMO I'm fine with this path for MBN. He obviously sees a big opportunity to go for a an SHL championship, and that's a good thing. We want guys who want to win, and also have that winning experience under their belt. ASP is coming off an SHL championship, SHL best Dman award, WJC best Dman award, and is HOT to start the season. Injecting MBN unto that team is going to put Skelleftea over the top again, and then the abbreviation brothers can come over together next year with rings on their fingers and chemistry together. But the most positive takeaway is the Wings really wanted to fast track MBN and adjust him to NA ice right away. Sucks it will be one year delayed, but thats huge that they have that much faith in him. IMO his body and shot are already NHL caliber. MBN probably only needs 1 year in the AHL to work on defense and skating in NA rinks before he's ready to dawn the wheel. I predict he's essentially on the same path as Mo ATM, and will debut in his D+3, or 2026/27. BTW, the 2026/27 roster currently looks like this: Cat - Larkin - Ray Ras - Copp - JTC Bergs - Veleno Ed - Mo AJo (No goalies) The fat will be almost all be trimmed, and Danielson, Kasper, Mazur, MBN, ASP, Wallinder, Cossa, and Augustine should all be peppered into the lineup, and we should have a ton of money to spend. The same year Rasmus Andersson will become UFA summer before it starts... Larkin - Danielson - Ray Cat - Kasper - MBN Ras - Copp - JTC Bergs - Veleno - Mazur Ed - Mo Ajo - Andersson Wallinder - ASP Cossa Augustine A talented + youth filled top6 led by 30 year old Larkin, 29 year old Dcat, and still only 24 year old Raymond. A vet shutdown grind line in Ras/Copp/JTC. A young all Swedish defense (minus Mo) led by 30 year old Andersson and still only 25 year old Mo, and 23 year old Ed. Plus two promising young goalies. We gonna be stacked AF

Just a good time to do it. He's not going to get claimed with so many other players on waivers and teams working out their final rosters. It also saves the Wings 500K, and Watson will be waiver immune for a month if he clears. It's alll paper transaction, he's not actually going to GR, and will be recalled on paper before the first game.

    2024 Pre-Season Thread

I don't disagreee. His frequency of injury is high so far in his career. But he's also never had a serious injury or needed surgery. For example, when he split time with Binnington in STL he got injured. But he still managed 40 starts, and played more games than Binnington did. His first season in DET he got injured twice in March, but still managed 56 games. Most goalies don't play that many games a season. Last season was the outlier, but again the two injuries he had were minor. He came back too early from his first injury which caused him to basically have to restart on his recovery time, and then got another minor injury right after finally returning. I wouldn't say he has an injury problem. He just seems to tweak something at least once a season, but he usually recovers from that quickly. It's his last season on this contract, and he has a limited NTC. It's hard to trade a goalie with an NTC because most teams are set in that dept and he can easily block the few that aren't. Just let him finish the year and we can decide to move on or not at that point. Like i said, so far he's been the best in net this year.

I've completely 180'ed on him. Because as it turns out, he was secretly the manipulative sociopathic mind game player I've always wanted THIS ENTIRE TIME. First two seasons he was happy funtimes friend coach. Wouldn't even say a negative thing last year when we were blowing huge games on a huge skid. And as a fan it made me want to rip my own hands off. But listen to Derek now. His attitude has shifted so extremely, it's clear he was wearing a mask the first two years. The boys play a decent preseason game and he says stuff like "we lacked spirit, emotion, focus, and it's not acceptable". I'm like hell yea, gloves are finally off, lets go. Friend Derek is dead. It was a ploy to get closer to the players the first 2 seasons. Probably helped him to cut guys like Kostin, Walman, and Fabbri out. Now he's shape shifted into "get your ass in gear or get off my team" Derek, and I like it.

For anyone who missed it, this is probably the best Wings clip in years: Big clean hit, then Simon being completely uninterested in beating up a Sens midget. Almost an annoyed "ok calm down little boy" look.
