Then arrange for him to join the juggernaut NCAA program that's pumping out NHL talent. And then get him to relay information back to the Wings on those players, as well as sell the UofM players on the wings franchise?... Devious. Im about 100% confident that Kienan will be joining his dads staff the moment he has his degree and his career as a player is essentially over. Further to what i said above, Rutger has already been teammates with a number of Red Wings prospects. Trey Augustine, Brady Cleveland, Brennan Ali, Red Savage, Kienan Draper... And his current coach at UofM is former Wings AC Brandon Naruto. Naruto has never worked for another NHL team besides us. And he was coached by former Wings AC Adam Nightingale in USA development as well. Furthermore, his current UofM teammate Jake Truscott is also thumbing his nose at the canucks and will pick his destination this August. Also a Michigan homegrown, and also someone I expect the Wings will pursue. This kid has Red Wings DNA in him at every level. With the state of the team, I would be very surprised if we are not his top choice considering his background. I was reading we will have to forfeit a 2nd to the jets if we sign him straight out of college in 2 years. Screw that. Give them this years mid 2nd straight up and plant him on the team NOW. He already has a grown mans physique, and he's been a captain everywhere he's played. This kid can play for us next year. Worst case scenario he can hang with his buddy Truscott in the AHL for one year, but i dont think thats likely. Going to be very surprised if the wings are not all over this.

This is actually huge news for us. McGroarty is NHL ready IMO. Jets likely offered him his ELC when the college season ended and he said no and ghosted them. Pretty apparent he intends to finish college and pick his destination. McGroarty has spent his entire life in Michigan. And his father coaches honeybaked and manages the Muskegon lumberjacks. Couple this with our team being on the upswing, and also having roster space available... boys we may be landing Rutger McGroarty for cheap. Mcgroarty also doesnt have an agent. Likely his father is acting on his behalf. A guy that the wings more than likely have a relationship with. Teams are going to be hesitant to trade for him not knowing what his intentions are. And if they do trade for his rights they likely wont fork over much. Hoping Yzerman already knows the situation with this kid and his family. If he just wants to be a red wing, then trade the jets a late round pick or a B prospect for his rights, get him on his ELC this summer, and get him on the team next year. If he actually wants to earn a degree... no worries, we wait, and get him for free in 2 years where he'll be the black ace in a cup run. Exciting stuff.
