Chiarot plays more minutes than every D man not named Seider. Takes more Dzone starts than every defender on the team, including Seider. Is #2, behind Seider, in both hits and blocked shots. Has a better +/- than Seider, despite scoring far less. And he runs the 2nd PK unit, with Petry and Ed swapping as his partner. He's easily the #2 Dman on this team, and he has two more seasons under contract. Rant and rave all you like, he's not going anywhere with that usage by his coach. So smarten up and start yelling about Derek on every thread you want to derail with the same topic.
-
I didn't mention Chiarot once
-
Ah I thought he meant AJo could make the team, but he would only assign him if he's not going back down. This makes better sense. So we definately need to trade Maata and buyout Holl then no? Mo + Walman + Chiarot + Petry + Edvinsson + AJo = 6 Won't have room to add Matt Roy if we don't. And we need a another RHer that defends better than Petry
-
I'm not a huge fan of Petry at all. But Newsy deploys him as a top4 Dman on this team. Because of that, I have a hard time seeing El Captain buying him out or giving up picks to trade him. I think the best we can hope is Yzerman trades Maata and we bring in another RHD, via that trade or UFA, to force Petry out of the top4. With Holl I expect a buy out, or giving up a pick to offload him, is coming. Since we didn't get any extra picks at the deadline, I'm thinking buyout. It'll be a 4 year buyout, but the hit isn't that bad IMO. Like 1-1.5 mil per year if I recall correctly. I'm not a fan of ghost. I'm a big believer in having a D core where all 6 defenders can defend. Ghost doesn't fit that bill. He's heavily deployed in the offensive and neutral zone, and not the Dzone. And Newsy only uses him 15 min a night at even strength, which equates to the deployment of a #6 Dman. The upside of Ghost? He puts up sexy point numbers. And that comes from huge minutes on the PP. He's a top 10 PP QB in this league for sure. However, despite all this PP time, nearly 60 pts on the season, and most deployments outside of the DZone, he has the worst +/- on the team, at -16. In theory a guy like this should be Uber positive on the +/-. I like what he brings to the PP, but you can't even really call this guy a "puck mover" who helps the forwards score, since he hardly plays even strength minutes. And more than half his point were scored on the PP. It's hard to justify paying 5 million a year to a bottom pair Dman that gets scored on a lot, doesn't hit, and doesn't block shots. I would prefer not to have anybody on the team like this at all, but if we must, a PP specialist like this would have to make far less for me to be comfortable. Philly should have converted him to forward years ago. In the end, we need to afford Edvinsson the responsibility of the 2nd PP unit as well. Ghost blocks that. Eddog won't be as good as ghost at this next season, but it's important for his development as a player. I agree with Yzerman and Newsy on the team defense. We had an extremely high goals for average, and extremely high goals against average, whether it was any 3 of the goalies playing. Many of the players commented that they have to get away from "trying to outscore their problems" and commit to to a better team defense as well. I got the impression this was something really bothering Yzerman. He made sure to drive the point home. I think we will be rolling Husso/Lyon again next year. If only because they chose to Husso to be one of the players to address the media for exit interviews. You wouldn't be doing that to/for a guy you're buying out. Kane walking would be an irreplaceable blow. But we can semi replace it with Berggren and others, and continued growth from Raymond + Rasmussen. Like I said about our goals for and against, we can afford to sacrifice some scoring to get better at defense. And based on the interview Yzerman had, this seems to be something he wants to happen. Furthermore, both Newsy and Yzerman talked about the team getting younger next season. Kane is the opposite of that. Not that Yzerman wouldn't want to keep him, but he probably doesn't want to commit to the term Kane needs to be happy. The team took a huge step in terms of development this year. It's a good time to bring our young budding prospects up to participate in this new found confidence, and also hopefully absorb the lessons learned from this year's ultimate defeat from the rest of the guys. Yzermans comments about adding Berg and AJo make me think think this is the direction he will head. I think this offseason will be more uneventful than past years in terms of additions. With new contracts for Mo and Ray being the primary goal. Based on the totalality of my comments, my best prediction for the season is this: Kane, Ghost, Sprong become UFA Perron and Fischer re-signed Maata traded for something (at some point) Holl bought out Matt Roy (or a Dman of similar caliber) signed Berggren recalled and AJo (at some point) recalled And one of Soderblom, Kasper, Mazur, or Czarnik recalled to play a more semi active roll. Not super exciting. But IMO Yzerman will want to move away from mass free agents signing at this point, and start to clear room for his prospects instead, to develop internally through the draft. Something he's always preached. This may mean a step backward next year, but I think it will be better for our long term goals. And I say may, because I think we can still stumble into the playoffs with these moves. The players grew as a team tremendously this year and they all seem to know exactly what they need to do now to get to where they want next year. I think we will see a team that plays better cohesively as a unit, with better commitment to systems and defense, and not so many wild up and down winning and losing streaks, despite the loss of major offensive talents in Ghost and Kane. Consistincey and confidence will become king.

Looks like the Griffs will have this defense next year: Johansson - Rafferty Wallinder - Tuomisto Buium - Didier Viro Losing McIsaac and Edvinsson, will be a blow, but also a huge opportunity for Johansson, Wallinder, and Buium to shine. Good also to see the two Finns getting more opportunity.
-
Well what Yzerman said exactly is he thinks both Johansson and Berggren are close to ready for full time duty, but both have to earn their spot, it will not be handed to them. And he continues by saying both will be waiver eligible next year, and he does not believe either of them would clear waivers today. So essentially they have to come up and be ready for a full 82 game season. No more weekend AHL business. IMO Kane was Berggrens stop gap. He's probably gonna make the team out of camp and stay there. Johansson I'm not sure will. We might not see him until injuries pile up or the TDL. Ghost, and probably Holl, won't be on this team next season. Leaving Maata and Johansson to fight for the 7th spot. There really isn't any logjam.

Kane was speaking about factors that will generally go into his decision. Not solely about Detroit, and it certainly wasn't him discussing "whom on the wings he wants to play with next season". I am not going to continue banging my head against the wall with a new person now. Take a hike. I believe Kane sodomized Al the Octopus and will sign with the Leafs.
-
Oh boy I can't wait to watch all 4 leafs game this year. Sounds like I missed the first one.
-
Now you think you heard? Look my Woodward friend, I have not been arguing with you about what you think, or I think. I've been pointing out to you what EXPLICITLY was said. And he did not say hes hoping to be a Red Wing next year, just as he did not say he's definately testing free agency. I do not care what you believe, and I havent been trying to convince you of a different point of view. I'm taking issue with you misquoting the interview to make it seem different than it was. There's a tremendous difference between "Dcat said he thinks Kane's coming back" and "Dcat said Kane chose us last year for a reason, I, 13dangledangle, think Kane's coming back". I would have drawn zero issue with the later. If you initially paraphrased badly, just say so and move on. Jeezus. Don't point your finger at me, it's plain to see who immedately resorted to slurs... As I explained to 13dangledangle above, extrapolate whatever you like from these interviews, but don't tell everyone Kane said something that he absolutely did not. It's dishonest. In regards to your first point, I think Kane knows where he stands. He's easily the 2nd best forward on this team. And probably the most talented as well. He'll continue to play with Larkin/Raymond/Dcat until his body breaks down significantly. The area of concern for Kane, I think, (SEE HOW YOU CAN POINT OUT WHEN SOMETHING IS YOUR OWN THOUGHT AND NOT A DIRECT QUOTE) is that Yzerman chose not to add at the deadline. Kane doesn't have 5-7 years to wait for the Yzerplan to come to full fruition. He likely expected to receive additional support and it didn't come... Then, if any of you watched the Lalonde and Yzerman exit interviews, they both talk about how the team is probably going to be younger next year. El Captain talks about adding Berggren and even Johansson to roster next season. Personally, I think Yzerman knows he can't break from the plan and give Kane the the term and money he wants, and the two have already wished each other well on their future endeavors. Or ya know, maybe I'm just a retarded idiot?
-
But it wasn't picking a fight when you called me a retard for pointing out that Kane and Dcat did not in fact say what you were asserting.... right. Tells us more about this bus of yours. Does it often take you to message boards to pick fights and name call? Or is that just your very mature very adult reaction any time someone proves you wrong?
-
I like how youve now edited your old comment and removed the first time you called me an idiot lol but then say you stand by it here! Oh sweet summer child, you certainly are cute.
-
Well Ive clearly shown Dcat didn't say he thinks Kane will be here next year. And Kane didn't talk about which Wings he wants to play with next year. So yeah, those things only exist in your head movies. Probably why you have to resort to name calling. Run along now so the adults can continue to discuss.
-
Maybe don't post fake crap and then resort to calling people the R slur when they call you on it. If you can do that, I'll stop acting like "an idiot". Cause that's what folks who don't make up players statements are... "idiots". Good talk. Idiot and proud.
-
Now that we've cracked the case, let's sum this up: Kane seems very interested in staying to you, and you think he'll be back because: A. On whichever team he chooses, who he plays with will matter B. DeBrincat doesn't know what Kane is going to do
-
He was asked what factors are going into his decision. He says he's going to explore all his options, but things like minutes and who he plays with. He's not talking solely about the Red Wings in that clip, you regard.
-
So when did Dcat say he thinks Kane is staying? And when did Kane say which Wings he wants to play with next year? Oh thats right they didnt, cause ur a liar. And I'm sorry if you think I'm being rude, but you demonstrably lied and then immediately responded by calling ME a retard when I pointed it out. So who's the retard now?
-
So listening to El Captain and Newsy today, I took away a couple things. 1. Yzerman is in very good spirits. He was laughing and joking with the media more so than I've seen in recent years. I got the overall vibe he's happy with the teams progress despite failures. 2. Yzerman and Newsy are high on Albert Johansson. They want him making the team next year. 3. Both Yzerman and Newsy overly stressed how the team needs to learn to commit to better defense. Not just the defenders, but forwards as well. 4. Both Yzerman and Newsy think the team will get younger next year. Dash your thoughts about major UFAs trades and Kane. I think we're reloading internally on an at least partial level. 5. Newsy appeared very intelligent. Yzerman has the right man for the job. Any relation to daisy the cow?
-
So if Yzerman just tells him what his 2024/25 top6 looks like you believe he definately returns? You understand how insanely sophomoric that is, no?
-
Of course Yzerman and Brisson are going to talk. That's their jobs. You were just 100% making up statements and attributing them to Kane and Debrincat. I hope Kane decides to stay too, but I have not gotten that impression from his statements. Brisson is also going to be dealing with Yzerman on Sprong and McIsaac this summer, so plenty of opportunity for conversation.

Kanes family lives in Buffalo. He owns a home there and another outside of Chicago. He's not married, and his only child is 3. I don't think he's concerned about uprooting the family. The teams that were after him last year besides us were reported as Florida, Dallas, and Buffalo. Not sure how those teams situations have changed since then. But he would be viewed as the holy savior of the Sabres if he returned home. I could also see a return to Chicago happening. But maybe he's only truly interested in contenders, it could be a number of teams if thats the case. IDK if it's in the yzerplan to hand him a 5x5. Last year we could afford to risks. That ability has greatly diminished now IMO.
-
Again, not what Dcat said. The quote is "He came here in the first place, and he chose us for a reason. Obviously I don't know what he's going to do, but we are hoping he stays here." Not, I think he's going to play here. Not, why would he not come back? In fact, not only does he not say he thinks Kane is coming back, he openly admits he does not know what Kane will do. Furthermore, Kane explicitly says in his interview that what he is looking for is different than last year. So DCats statement about him choosing us in the first place is feckless. Not that it matters much since he admitted he doesn't know. And just curious, who did Kane mention he wants to play with next year...?
-
Correct, that is much different. It's a reference to last year... not next year. Dcat still said nothing about thinking or expecting Kane to be back NEXT year. And Kane does not at all talk about who on the Red Wings he wants to play with next year. I can't even find anything he said that you might reasonably confuse for that. Perhaps you might be the one who needs to do a little rewatching... regards
-
They did not. "I hope he will be back" is not the same as "I think he will be back". Your brain is doing a little wishful thinking if you're confusing those statements. Regards,
-
Neither Kane or Dcat made either of those statements. What Kane did say was his agent is going to explore options. I get that you want him back, so do I. But Kane spoke in the past tense about the wings the entire time, and went out of his to highlight how healthy and pain free he is now. He's already selling himself to the next franchise.
-
No one celebrating was my point. Kane doesn't have the miles and time to waste playing rebuild with us. He needed this year to prove he still has it. He's done that and now he'll set his sights on a true contender. He was an awesome bonus this year, but I'm not under any delusion he has loyalty to the Wings. You don't honestly believe that. Every player says empty platitudes like that to the media. And every core player wants their GM to add talent for them to play with. We certainly could see some moves this summer, but IMO it will be much quieter than what your hoping for. If SY was unwilling to give up guys like Berggren and his draft picks at the TDL, he certainly isn't going to part with them now. Furthermore, guys like Chiarot and Copp are going nowhere. SY is building a culture, and he's not going to jump ship on the vets he's made commitments to. And they're not even bad, so why move them? Don't listen to the hater(s) screaming nonsense about them 24/7.
