Summer offseason / off topic thread I'll start: WHO/UN says that in 2024 175K Euros died due to heat, out of a population 744,000,000. This accounts for 0.0235% of the population. Pewresearch says that in 2023 gun violence accounted for 47K deaths in the USA. This accounts for 0.014% of the population. So you are almost twice as likely to be baked to death in Europe than killed by a gun in America. Not sure why this felt important to share, but it's good ammo for when you need to dunk on europoors who can't afford AC. Cheers

I always found the story of the Japanese mob, the Yakuza, being the founding owners of the lightning interesting and finally dug into the story. >zeigler, the commisioner before bettman, announces he wants to expand the league by 7 teams in the early 90s >phil esposito wants his own team, and thinks he can make one work in Florida >phil collects investors and stages a game in florida to show florida can support a hockey team >game goes great, but phil later discovers the owner of the stadium he used is Karmanos (later and now former owner of the Canes and rival of the illitch family... somethin somethin fedorov and compuware) and Karmanos wants in on phils bid in exchange for lease of his stadium >esposito tells him to pound sand, but now has to build his own arena and thus loses his investors >seeking new investment phil meets a guy who says he can setup him up with wealthy japanese investors who want in >they fly to japan, where high profile business is usually done in honorable boards rooms, but the company he meets with instead take him to a hostess club, which is basically a hooters/borderline strip club >phil is cool with it, and former commissioner zeigler basically does no background checks, because the japanese are offering straight cash and a lot of it >then, through a series of hostile power moves, the jap investors basically force out all the minority owners and take full control of the lightning >it becomes clear the owner of this japanese group may not even exist. He never attends a game, or is even seen or met at all. Never heard from other than by letter. And theres basically no record of his existence in japan. >the japanese run the lightning into the ground both on the ice and financially. And theres many transactions on the books that make little sense (money laundering/washing) >the land developer for the lightning stadium ends up suing the lightning for hundreds of millions. In the lawsuit its revealed the japanese henchman of the owner assigned to oversee the team (a real physical person) has been accused by many japanese businsses of being a gangster. >after running up millions in debt (and likely washing even more money than that) the japanese sell the team and all the japanese involved dissapear off the face of the earth like they never existed Interesting story. The japanese mob ran an NHL franchise as a multi million money laundering scheme.

I didn't follow that closely either, but a couple things I remember from the height of it: >security footage revealed she basically threw herself at these boys, openly groping multiple of them in public >texts revealed she willingly went to their hotel to meet them >after alledged assault occurred she left the hotel, but then went back to the room again because she forgot something and needed to look for it lol >her testimony was constantly contradictory. I.E. Hart assaulted me... butttt when he asked me for oral I verbally agreed. >she also didnt want this going to court. The crown forced it on her. She already had a settlement from the league, and obviously knew actual court would not back up her side of the story Id welcome any of these boys to the team... its a bit scummy and humiliating, but its been quite obvious they were the true victims here of false allegations and having their careers derailed
-
They probably are guilty of being dumb teenage boys, but this is the right call. Their accuser was on camera grabbing their crotches and soliticing them. And then claimed later she was assaulted. Its all he said she said at that point, but she made it obvious she was the sexual initiator at that point. Not an excuse for the boys to abuse her, but there was no evidence of that other than her saying so.

Russo said on his podcast Minny was offered two 1sts for Rossi at the draft and they declined. Guerin doesnt want any futures, and would want to replace Rossi's 60 pts on the roster imedeately. Don't think this trade is possible for us.

Matthew Golden - packers 1st round pick - was asked to identify where Green Bay was on a map. He said Ohio. Lmao @F.Michael
-
Forgot to add about Genborg: Draper said - when asked which teammate they'd most like to bring with them to play anywhere - almost every Swedish kid answered Genborg.
-
I'm liking the Eddie Genborg pick more and more. Initially I thought he only had bottom 6 potential, but that may not be the case. He dominated goal scoring in Swedish juniors last season which I didnt realize. He then got brought up to his pro team halfway through the season... In the pros they used him as a 4th line grinder type, and as a net front presence. So he never really got the chance to be THE GUY in a big role. But he was still a big nasty 4th liner for them... from what ive seen his shot is excellent and his speed is really good. He may have a breakout season in pros this coming year. If not, he's still a strong AF kid for 18 that can win battles against men already... European scout slammed a Swede right into our side, Chief. We was comin' back from the town of LA, just delivered our draft rankings. The 2025 rankings. 224 prospects got drafted. Red Wings selected all forecheckers... Didn't see the first Swede until the 2nd round. A Genborg. Six-foot 2-incher. You know how you know that when you're on the ice, Chief? You tell by lookin' from the helmet to the skate... What we didn't know... was our hockey mission had been so secret, no referees or linesmen had been sent... They didn't even open the penalty box till the 3rd period. Very first shift, Chief, Swede come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into tight groups. Y'know, it's... kinda like ol' trap style, like you saw in New Jersey, like in the battle of the 96 finals, and the idea was, Swede comes to the nearest man and that man, he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin', and sometimes the Swede go away... sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that Swede, he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. Y'know the thing about a Swede, he's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'... until he hits ya. And those black eyes roll over white, and then... oh, then you hear that terrible high-pitch screamin', the ice turns red, and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin', they all come in and they... rip you to pieces. Y'know, by the end of that first period... lost a hundred men. I dunno how many Swedes. Maybe a thousand. I dunno how many men, they averaged six a period. In the 2nd period, Chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Michael Misa, from Ontario, forward, playmaking type. I thought he was asleep, reached over to wake him up... laid on the ice like a kinda loose stick. Upended. Well... he'd been hip-checked below the waist. 3rd period a linesmen saw us, he swung in low and he saw us. Young linesmen, a lot younger than Mr. Misa. Anyway, he saw us and come in and three shifts later, a big fat referee comes down and start to pick us up. Y'know, that was the time I was most frightened, waitin' for my turn. I'll never put on a neck guard again. So, 224 prospects got drafted, 50 eventually made rosters, and the Swedes took the rest, June the 28th, 2025.

Rossi and the Wild are at a total impasse apparently. Not even speaking or negotiating. Anyone know what Minny would want in return?
-
Yes, it will be very interesting to watch, especially with the energy crisis/shifts involving the Russian Fed and their supply of oil to the west. Your comment also reminded me of when I used to summer in Bruge. The heat would tense my muscles up in a very bad way. Luckily, I had ordered Mr. Hankey's Gut Punch and it really helped with my stretching, and I noticed a real improvement in my gut health. Go figure.

Who know's, teams never update that shidt so it'll list a guy as 5'10" 175lbs until he's like 26 and suddenly he's now listed at 6'0" 195lbs

It's time

Anyone with actual morals departed LGW years ago. You're still here because youre a hardcore sicko just like the rest of us.

Yall know me, my track record on prospects is pretty decent... i fought on the slopes and highest peaks to defend the Seider pick and Ty Bertuzzi pick when others doubted. And I bashed guys like Jurco, Cholowski, and Zadina the moment I saw them take GR ice... And if you still have any faith in your old pal #9/CRL/DonHakan/BarkBurgerman/(fake)BlueAdams/Walman6million/Gwinder/ and 100 other names Ive used that I cant remember.... then trust me when I say: This filthy roster needs to be placed into gynecology stirrups, its azzhole braced open, and Jesse Kiiskinen and Max Plante need to be directly inserted like an enema, that will clean out the remaining shidt. Sorry not sorry for that image.
-
Kiiskinen is the other prospect I hold in the same regard as Plante. With guys like Buchnelikov, Lombardi, etc, you see the hype, but you still wonder if it will translate. Kiiskinen is going to translate. Another absolute DOG status prospect. Skates, bangs, turns pucks over, just plain wills things to happen through sheer determination. After the trade I thought Gibson looked really good at Preds dev camp last year, but then he played like dog shidt when he returned to the OHL. He's not gonna earn a spot on a Trotz team, and that trade is going to come out looking amazing for Yzerman. It will be an absolute travesty if Kissdog goes back to Finland next year, which it sounds like is what is happening... i hope he comes into preseason camp and the wings wake the fuq up and realize he HAS to be in GR preparing to earn an NHL spot NOW.
-
No doubt. Plante looks like a monster. As an 18 year old freshmen he was BY FAR the best player for Minny-Duluth, and that program has been BAD the last few years... so it's not like their were great seniors around him propping him up. His passing/playmaking ability is way above-average and his hustle is phenomenal. He's absolutely going to be a hobey baker finalist this coming season, and he's probably going to win it too... In case anyone doesn't remember from draft day, this is the kid who's dad is a coach, grandfathers a coach, and probably his dog is a coach too. He lives in rinks, and when he does go home he said he and his dad immedately flip on hockey and ONLY watch hockey. We took him at #47 but he's already performing like he shouldve been a top15 pick. This is one prospect i have almost 100% faith WILL be an NHLer. He's a fuqqin hungry dog on the ice. And I think he could very well make Danielson and Lombardi expendable at the center position, and not the other way around. Only thing one could possibly neg him on is his size, but I give absolutely no shidts about it. He battles like a honey badger.

>Red Wings fan here coming in peace. What can you tell me about Chinakov's game? "Welcome fellow redditerino! China is a heckin' good mid 6 forward. His style could be described as sort of how OSU played the strong safety position during the urban meyer era. Heckin lanky boi, but more for coverage than physical run stopping if that makes sense." EDIT: Wow thanks for the gold kind stranger!

Pretty much I posted b4 the draft that I wanted Eklund if he slips, but if he didnt then carter bear or the kid from arizona state: potter. Eklund did slip and we didnt take him, but thats okay, i only liked him bc he seemed like the only bonafide top 6 fwd that could slip to us. Eklund is a berggren type soft euro forward who looked to be going high (so maybe a mistake zadina type pick on my part) I liked Bear and Potter after that for more tactical reasons. Their both big engine physical players that muck and grind. And thats what i want this team to add. Thanks Steve. In Bear's case, he has a very boring offensive game per say, but he does have an offensive game... He can pass. He can shoot. He's never gonna wow you with eithee, but he can get the job done. His advantage is the physical side. And i think when folks read this they think I mean "he wrecks ppl". He doesnt. He's more a heavy forechecker - like a sam bennet - that goes deep in the zone and dominates corners and gains turnovers. Like a Maple Leafs Zach Hyman. Goes to the puck battle. Wins. Kicks it out to Marner (Raymond) and then he sends it to Matthews (Debrincat) for the goal. Having the puck carrier and puck shooter is important, but having a puck retreiver (Bear) is also important. Yzerman has gone down the Lions path lately. Drafting for grit/determination/hustle instead of raw talent. I like this. In the cap world you cant build superteams of pure talent anymore. You get the stars you can and then give them a supporting staff of DOGS. BIG DOGS. You wanna pizz like a puppy you stay on the porch, big dogs go inside and eat.

Something we haven't discussed. >Keats retired >Trev got laid off Wtf are we going to be watching next year between periods? And why should it evolve into Ozzie/Howie riffing on goalies, every segment, every night, like they know what theyre talking about? (They don't, and it should) Discuss

Bridgewater wrote on his Facebook on Sunday: "I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE. I will volunteer from the bleachers if I have to." I get the feeling those kids are about to get DOUBLE the post game pizzas they got last year. And a gentlemen named Theodore Waterbridge is going to be a special guest greenskeeper during every practice. Good on him. Don't let em stop you.

Teddy Bridgewater - I think he took 1 snap for the Lions in the playoffs last year - after signing with us after coming out of retirement after his HS team won the Florida state football championship with him as his first year as head coach: suspended from HS coaching. Why? Cause he spent 70K out of his own pocket to pay for his players field paint, uber rides to and from games, pregame meals, and necissities like clothes (being dressed up on game days) Mind you this is the same community Bridewater grew up in, the same HS he graduated from, a predominantly African American school with very low graduation rates. Imagine giving back to your community, shelling out of your own pocket what many folks dont even make in a full salary year, to keep kids you care about clothed and fed and off the streets, and you win the championship for them and have them on a hopeful path, and your reward is suspension. Shameful display from Florida and for football in general.
