At the end of 2019/20 James Devellano led Jimmy Howard to the fiery center of Mt. Weight Watchers, the only place where the one hoagie to feed them all could be destroyed...... But the hearts of goalies are easily corrupted... "CAST IT INTO THE (TRASH) BIN JIMMY! IT MUST BE DESTROYED!" Devellano exclaimed. Eyeing the precious dbl meat, dbl cheese, and extra mayo hoagie, and with a devious smile begining to creep across his face, Jimmy Howard replied with only: it was on that fateful day that the evil of sandwiches triumphed over the hearts of Detroit goalies. Jimmy cast aside his job, his team, contract and money... all for extra deli meat... dooming the net of wingkind for generations: 2020/21 - Jimmy's heir, Bernier, assumed the net. But he would be quickly injured, traded, and then retire. He lasted just 34 games before the hoagie hex consumed him. 2021/22 - Next in line: the young calder finalist Ned. He made it about 64 games with the wings before the curse too devoured him. 2022/23 to present - Husso made it 74 games. HM to Reimer and Greiss. Howard's hoagie got those goalies too along the way. RIP. Lyon and and Talbot currently sit at 67 and 33 GP respectively. How much longer do we think they have? One hoagie to feed them all, one hoagie to find them, one hoagie to bring them all and in au jus we dine them

Not trying to poop on you, but Danielson has been a bit of a disappointment to the organization IMO. We're looking at a a Darren Helm. And Mazur probably doesn't fair much better than Ras or Berg either. Trading cast offs for cast offs. I don't think there's much to gain by those moves.

Lions have made their training camp cuts and it looks like this is our starting lineup week 1: OFFENSE QB: Jared Goff RB: Jahmyr Gibbs & David Montgomery WR: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Wlliams, & Tim Patrick TE: Sam LaPorta C: Graham Glasgow G: Christian Mahogany & Tate Ratledge T: Taylor Decker & Penei Sewell DEFENSE DT: DJ Reader & Tyleik Williams EDGE: Aiden Hutchinson & Marcus Davenport LB: Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, & Derrick Barnes CB: Terrion Arnold & DJ Reed S: Brian Branch & Kerby Joseph On offense.... we are incredibly stacked at the skill positions. We should continue to be a run first team, with Goff improvising as needed being the great play reader he is. However, the interior offensive line took some huge hits with Ragnow (C) retiring and Zeitler (G) going to the Titans. Glasgow is a decent vet, but nowhere close to Ragnow level. 2nd year Mahogany looked good as a backup guard last year, and rookie Ratledge looks great as well, but they are both youngggg and I expect some mistakes. I expect new offensive coordinator Morton will have more outside running plays in his book than we saw last year. Plays where tackles Sewell and Decker are the lead blockers, taking some pressure off our young interior linemen. At wide reciever, if anyone gets injured this year, its no worries. Rookie Isaac Teslaa looks like a beast and should be able to step up immedeately. Believe he will be WR4 or WR5 to start the season. On defense... we are already banged up (bc of course we would be). Our best nose tackle Alim McNeil wont play till week 4, and starting linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is out until November. Fortunately, rookie DT Tyleik Williams looks really good, just young, and new backup DT Roy Lopez looks pretty solid as well. And at LB Derrick Barnes is a solid stand in for Rodriguez. Whats improved about the defense is our backfield. DJ Reed at CB is a solid upgrade over last year, and Terrion Arnold is entering his 2nd year at CB and looks much better already than his rookie season. I do wish we had a better edge rusher than Davenport to pair with Hutchinson... but it is what is. Other interesting notes... Lions waived newly drafted edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein. He's out for 3-4 months with an injury. He looked really good in preseason, so i dont think the Lions are trying to lose him, they just want the extra roster spot, and with his injury I dont think another team will claim him (i hope). They also cut offensive lineman Dan Skipper - he will be the only player from last year that scored a touchdown not returning. Rookie defensive backs Ennis Rakestraw and Dan Jackson are also already out for the season with injuries. We now have a 50 man roster of the max 53. So we have 3 extra spots to claim someone or make other moves next week. I could see the Lions bringing back edge rusher Zdarius Smith, or even Dan Skipper once the dust settles. Superbowl here we come.

Rough average percentage of NHL draft picks from each country, from 1993 to 2023: 1. Canada: 40% 2. USA: 22% 3. Sweden: 12% 4. Russia: 8% 5. Finland: 6% 6. Czech: 5% 7. Slovakia: 4% 8. Other: 3% The Red Wings picks by country over the same period of time: 1. Canada: 44% 2. Sweden: 25% 3. USA: 17% 4. Russia: 7% 5. Czech: 3% 6. Finland: 2% 7. Other: 1% 8. Slovakia: >1% Wings draft success rate by country (players with 200+ games played) from 1993 to 2023: Canada: 2% Sweden: 17% USA: 11% Russia: >0.5% Finland: 20% Czech: 37% Slovak: 100% Other: 50% Success rate for Finland, Czech, Slovak, and other is a bit skewed because we draft so few of these players. For example the only Slovaks weve ever drafted are Tatar and Kopecky. Thus 100% success rate. Our success rate for Canadians and Russians is alarmingly bad based on how much draft capital weve spent there, but in the USA and especially Sweden we are pretty good. It's obvious how heavily we lean on Hakan.

Yup, im quickly losing interest in Soderblom. The era of big massive softies for us needs to end. Ericsson sucked. Ras sucks. Soderblom I no longer have patience for. Use your size or get bent. I remember watching games last season where 5 foot nothing Debrincat was the most physical Red Wing. Every bottom 6 player on this team should be ashamed after performances like that. I miss Kronwall so much. 6ft 200lbs and literally butt slamming people into the grave. If he can do it Soder and Ras have zero excuse. This team needs any sort of violent edge, and literally no one brings it. Seider used to... still mad cause i think we ruined him... -

Because the 4th line has literally no identity. We are a 3 line team... plus pure offensive players like Soderblom and Berggren playing with PK specialists like Appleton and Ras, because we dont kno what to do with these extra players. So they just play on the meaningless jumble that is our 4th line. I do think we should cut ties with guys who cant climb out of the 4th line quickly at this point. Love Soderbloms size and skill, but he doesnt use his size and is more hit or miss than AA. Berggren blah blah blah same stuff. Ras fuqqin blows. A good team wouldnt have an experimental rookie throwaway line. We should be playing reliable checkers like Eaves, Miller, McCarty, Maltby, Downie, JASON FUQQIN THE BEAST WILLIAMS, Draper, or Kocur in those spots. But we aint there yet. 2nd line was awesome tonight. I want to move past Patrick Kane, but he is a fuqqin treat. He just does superstar s*** that 99% of players dont even think of trying, and its nice to have. Did I say Ras sucks yet? Chiarot takes too much heat IMO but its time to experiment more with AJo as Mo's partner. -

Just saying, this team has a whole new dynamic. 3 rookies. Vets not getting their As back. Might be smart to lean on those vets until rooks are fully up to speed. --------------- Looks like same forward lines tonight, but bergers in for soderblom -
This could be the Lions year... Eagles are crumbling. Chiefs are washed. Ravens in total disaray. It might be us and the Bills in the... (dont wanna jinx it) That said... Young boy Giovanni Manu subbed in for the injured Taylor Decker at LT last game, and quite frankly he was awful. Dan Skipper has been called up in response so i assume the Manu experiment is already over. Assuming the line on Sunday will be: Skip/Mahogany/Glas/Rat/Sewell Seeing how bad Manu was made me appreciate how well Mahogany and Ratledge have been so far as rookies... In the secondary both our starting corners are injured and both our starting safeties may be injured. If Branch and Kerby both sit on Sunday Mahomes is going to try and throw all over us, and he might get away with it... The good news is Alim MAC FUQQIN TRUCK McNeil is back at DT against the Cheifs. So our pass rush and run stop should be getting a nice upgrade. I'd honestly like to see the Lions move Tyleik Williams to EDGE and let all four of Williams/Reader/McNeil/Hutch rush from the D line. Bring in as well Campbell and Barnes in a blitz package and drop Anzalone into coverage. If our secondary is gonna suck, then put mad pressure on Mahomes. On offense, WR Khalif Raymond has been limited in practice so we may finally get to see more Isaac Teslaa at WR this week. At WR Morton has also coined the term "the jameson effect" which basically is Jamo using his speed and running deep to take the top off the defense, forcing teams to commit a safety to him, effectively forcing them to play 2 high coverage. And that opens up the middle of the field for St Brown, who has been feasting on it. So Jamo is not getting many targets so far this season, but in theory, as soon as a team adjusts to cover ARSB instead of Jamo, Jamo is gonna get some deep balls and huge TDs. I think we cleanup this Chiefs team

I'm not blaming the rookies, but I do think with so many new faces the team may not be on the same page. I'd sink them in the lineup for now and lean on our vets until growing pains subside a bit. I also AGAIN hate how this team has no pushback when theyre getting dunked on. Call up Austin Watson now. What I'd like to see next game: Berggren - Larkin - Ray DCat - Kasper - Kane Finnie - JTC - Appleton MBN - Copp - Watson Scratch: Ras + Soder IR: JVR AJo - Seider Ed - JBD Chia - ASP Scratch: Gus To GR: Holl + Hamonic Talbot Gibson -

Larkin: We shot ourselves in the foot and didnt seem prepared Q: How were you so unprepared after 3 weeks and after you said last week youve never felt so prepared? A: I dont have a good answer for you Me: kid seems lost ------------------------------------------------- Todd: We got the start we wanted but didnt manage the game. Youre going to hear game management from me all season. Its time to fix it. Some of these guys have been doing this for years. Its time to fix it. Q: How did you feel about the 3 rookies? A: They looked okay, at least they didnt appear to be involved in any of the crap Q: How do you feel about the boos? A: We earned them Me: thank god we finally have an accountable coach ------------------------------------------------ What's alarming to me is the way our forecheck dissapeared. It was apparent to me, and im sure most of you, that this was going to be a win by commitee type squad. We saw not even a glimpse of a team like that... the moment the habs started coming with speed and getting rushes the whole team just abandoned the game plan, abandoned the forecheck, and went into a shell. I worry that Ray and Mo getting As on their chest may have been too soon... Gibson got left out to dry, but some of those goals were absolutely his fault. I need to see vast improvement from him or that trade could turn out to look very dumb. Hamonic is not good and should not be out there. I expect JBD out there next game. Gustafsson and Holl probably thoroughly enjoyed watching that game... -

	Is this a meme thread?

Summer offseason / off topic thread I'll start: WHO/UN says that in 2024 175K Euros died due to heat, out of a population 744,000,000. This accounts for 0.0235% of the population. Pewresearch says that in 2023 gun violence accounted for 47K deaths in the USA. This accounts for 0.014% of the population. So you are almost twice as likely to be baked to death in Europe than killed by a gun in America. Not sure why this felt important to share, but it's good ammo for when you need to dunk on europoors who can't afford AC. Cheers
