    2025 Lions Thread

Lions have made their training camp cuts and it looks like this is our starting lineup week 1: OFFENSE QB: Jared Goff RB: Jahmyr Gibbs & David Montgomery WR: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Wlliams, & Tim Patrick TE: Sam LaPorta C: Graham Glasgow G: Christian Mahogany & Tate Ratledge T: Taylor Decker & Penei Sewell DEFENSE DT: DJ Reader & Tyleik Williams EDGE: Aiden Hutchinson & Marcus Davenport LB: Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, & Derrick Barnes CB: Terrion Arnold & DJ Reed S: Brian Branch & Kerby Joseph On offense.... we are incredibly stacked at the skill positions. We should continue to be a run first team, with Goff improvising as needed being the great play reader he is. However, the interior offensive line took some huge hits with Ragnow (C) retiring and Zeitler (G) going to the Titans. Glasgow is a decent vet, but nowhere close to Ragnow level. 2nd year Mahogany looked good as a backup guard last year, and rookie Ratledge looks great as well, but they are both youngggg and I expect some mistakes. I expect new offensive coordinator Morton will have more outside running plays in his book than we saw last year. Plays where tackles Sewell and Decker are the lead blockers, taking some pressure off our young interior linemen. At wide reciever, if anyone gets injured this year, its no worries. Rookie Isaac Teslaa looks like a beast and should be able to step up immedeately. Believe he will be WR4 or WR5 to start the season. On defense... we are already banged up (bc of course we would be). Our best nose tackle Alim McNeil wont play till week 4, and starting linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez is out until November. Fortunately, rookie DT Tyleik Williams looks really good, just young, and new backup DT Roy Lopez looks pretty solid as well. And at LB Derrick Barnes is a solid stand in for Rodriguez. Whats improved about the defense is our backfield. DJ Reed at CB is a solid upgrade over last year, and Terrion Arnold is entering his 2nd year at CB and looks much better already than his rookie season. I do wish we had a better edge rusher than Davenport to pair with Hutchinson... but it is what is. Other interesting notes... Lions waived newly drafted edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein. He's out for 3-4 months with an injury. He looked really good in preseason, so i dont think the Lions are trying to lose him, they just want the extra roster spot, and with his injury I dont think another team will claim him (i hope). They also cut offensive lineman Dan Skipper - he will be the only player from last year that scored a touchdown not returning. Rookie defensive backs Ennis Rakestraw and Dan Jackson are also already out for the season with injuries. We now have a 50 man roster of the max 53. So we have 3 extra spots to claim someone or make other moves next week. I could see the Lions bringing back edge rusher Zdarius Smith, or even Dan Skipper once the dust settles. Superbowl here we come.

Big win today. Everything looked better. Playcalling. The O-line. The run game. Everything. It's the Bears sure, but IMO this team has gotten quickly back on track. Reminder: last week the bears nearly beat the vikings. We just CRUSHED them. I'm losing faith in Terrion Arnold. They talked all preseason about how much progress he's made, and how he plays like a CB1... Through 2 games he's getting burned ALOT. The rookie interior-line played MUCH better this week. 50 POINTS BETCH FUQ ON THE GOFFENSE out

Summer offseason / off topic thread I'll start: WHO/UN says that in 2024 175K Euros died due to heat, out of a population 744,000,000. This accounts for 0.0235% of the population. Pewresearch says that in 2023 gun violence accounted for 47K deaths in the USA. This accounts for 0.014% of the population. So you are almost twice as likely to be baked to death in Europe than killed by a gun in America. Not sure why this felt important to share, but it's good ammo for when you need to dunk on europoors who can't afford AC. Cheers

The pass rush needs to be totally different. If you can't pressure the QB with 4 guys YOU NEED to blitz ur linebackers. We "supposedly" have a great defensive back core so we gotta trust them to cover and bring more guys to attack the line scrimmage. On offense ur studs are your tackles. WHY TF ARE THEY NOT UR LEAD BLOCKERS ON THE MAJORITY OF RUN PLAYS??? St Brown is the most reliable WR1 in the league. Jamo can run deep and take the top off a defense. Teslaa can bring down about any high ball. We utilized absolutely 0% of those strengths. TLDR: John Morton is bad and i dont like him.

Ya boys done did it. Honestly Packers looked good... but the Lions gave that game away. The play calling was unbelievably bad. The narrative about the Lions losing both coordinators = suck, may very well be true. Morton clearly had no idea how to use his weapons, and Sheps defense wasnt much better. Campbell defended them saying they need time to adjust and work out kinks... but holy fuq that was bad. And what we all feared was glaring: the interior O-line, our biggest strength the last few years, SUCKED BALLS. Glasgow is a poor mans #1 center. Mahogany got mauled. Rookie Ratledge made rookie mistakes. We cannot implement our 1/2 run game without a good O line. And Goff doesnt have the protected pocket to pass effectively. Of course... a smart coordinator could work around that. Implement outside run plays and use our blocking WRs. But unfortantely Morton is apparently regarded and only wants to run highschool bubble screens. WHY TF IS GIBBS RUNNING UP THE CENTER ON A 5 YARD RUN PLAY U FUQQING MORON. Packies deserved that win. We were nancies out there and Ben Johnson is gonna make us look like stupid next week unless Campbell does some serious shidt this week to his shidt coordinators.

    > Gibbs/Montgomery are arguably the best runningback duo in the country. Nicknamed Sonic (Gibbs) and Knuckles (Monty), because Gibbs is the fast elusive back, and Monty is the strong power punching back. Theyre our one/two punch in the offensive game, and we play a run first offense. >QB Goff can barely run or scramble, so he stays in the pocket and uses a lot of play action (faking the hand off to the running back and then passing) >our WR's are really good >our defense is an old school throwback. A lot of blitzing, alot of focus on stopping the run, a lot of man to man press coverage in the backfield. >edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson will likely be up for defensive player of the year if he stays healthy, and should be flirting with breaking the single season sack record. >the exciting rookie is Isaac Teslaa. Big white kid who plays WR and is from Michigan. The general zeitgeist is the Lions window is wide open, but we gotta get it done. Lots of key injuries have cost in the past so were terrified of injuries and need the team to stay healthy. Our offense is arguably the most high powered in the league, but our defense is only average. But our D could be elite if guys stay healthy.

This is a franchise year for the Lions IMO. The rebuild has been amazing. Weve set records and made waves in the playoffs... but havent gotten it done... yet. Now this is the first season weve had to shed talent, or at least not add. And more importantly, weve lost our amazing coordinators. This is the season Dan Campbell proves hes either an elite coach, or someone who needs strong coordinators. Id love too see us take a lil off the gas in regular season, to go farther in the post.

Michael Parsons chose to go with #1 on his jersey. And his "back injury" has mysteriously vanished and he's 100%. This is going to go awesome for the Packers, and surely with no drama.

Packers are comparable somewhat to the 90s 00s Wings. Dominated the division. Everyone hates them. But its special between us, bc of the thanksgiving game tradition, and u drunks thinking u own the UP. If not for those things the Bears would easily take #1, like most Chicago teams do for Detroit fans. I think the NFC North plays out like: 1. Detroit 2. Greenbay 3. Minnesota 4. Chicago The North was the most stacked division last year, and it only got better. It's gonna be a bloodbath again.

I hate the Cboys almost as much as I hate the packies, but I actually think Jerry Jones came out ahead here. Remember when da Bears traded two 1sts for edge rush Khalil Mack? No one does, cause it didnt bring them a superbowl, and it destroyed their future and theyre still paying for it. Packers will still be good, and just got better, but they just mortagaged their future heavily in order to compete with a Lions team that will still beat them. They also just made Parsons the highest paid non-QB in the league, and lets not forget that Parsons is a known head case lockeroom cancer. I will enjoy watching this blow up in their face... all over a SMALL edge rusher with personality issues. Ive been enjoying the way the Lions build precisely bc they refuse to do stuff like this. We have 3 rookies we just drafted that will be starting week 1. Id much rather do this than throw 47 mil at 1 guy instead. Good luck packtards. See you in Greenbay in 9 days...

EDGE Hassenein cleared waivers (thank jesus) Dan Skipper also re-signed with the practice squad, so we havent seen the last of the tallest man in the NFL most likely. Lions traded Tim Patrick to the Jags for a 6th, then proceeded to claim a safety and nose tackle off waivers from the Jags. Theyre prolly not happy about that! The safety Dan Thomas is apparently a very good special teams specialist. Rookie Dan Jacksons (injured) replacement. Also claimed EDGE Tyrus Wheat off Dallas. Interestingly enough former Lion James Houston made the cowbetches roster at EDGE. I believe we cut him b4 the playoffs last year bc he was so awful. God bless that idiot Jerry Jones.

As a Lions fan... Most hated teams: 1. Packers - FTP4LIFE all lambeau cheeseheads should be killed 2. Bears - divisional rival fuq you no one cares about the 1980s u suck 3. Vikings - divisional rival, but also no superbowls like the Lions, so slightly less hate than Chicago 4. Cowboys - something about stomping on the boys throats is so satisfying 5. Browns - what is your joke franchise even doing? Also ohio is gray 6. Chiefs - only this high bc ur overhyped and no one cares about ur annoying travis and taylor BS Most liked teams: 1. Buccaneers - miss you former divisional bros 2. Bills - lake Erie bros for life 3. Ravens - respect for sucess and sorta always being good 4. Steelers - respect for hardcore fans and sorta always being good 5. Raiders - even when you suck the Raiders are still somehow cool Anyone majorly disagree?

Well we drafted a RDE this year in Ahmed Hassenein, and he was the highest graded player in some of the preseason games, but he tore a pec and is out 3-4 months. He's our longterm solution. We also have Josh Pascal returning week 4ish, and he's similar to Davenport. At the EOD I agree with Brad. Its almost impossible to field two elite edge rushers. Theres only like 10 of those guys in the entire league and they make too much money. Regardless, Hutch is gonna break the sack record soon. Lions now have what they call the "Hutch rule" in practice. And that is - bc Hutch is basically unstoppable and getting sacks almost every snap - they allow him to run past the QB and continue the play like it didnt happen. Bc he was ending plays so early nobody else could get real reps in.

    2025 Offseason Thread

Video of "behind the scenes" of free agency with Ken Holland and the Kings has released. Specifically there is footage of his call to Jordan Spence telling Spence he's been traded to Ottawa. He tells Spence: "We don't feel you would have gotten the opportunity here that you have earned, so we decided to trade you, and will look to fill your role in free agency instead." Mind you, Jordan Spence grew up living in LA as a Kings fan. Even named his dog after Drew Doughty. And was drafted by that very hometown team. Further, he's a very good puck-moving Dman who was able to put up 28 pts last season from 3rd pairing minutes. And he's only 24, only costs $1.5 mil against the cap, and will be under RFA control when this contract ends after this season. What did Holland get for him? A measly 3rd + 6th round picks. Whom did Holland replace Spence with in free agency? A 32 year old Cody Ceci, on a $4.5 x 4 year deal with an NTC It's like this man has a compulsive need to load up his team with bad vets on bad long contracts that are impossible to trade. It's truly remarkable.

Nahhhh on Buchnelikov. We own his rights indefinately. He can only sign in tĥe NHL with us. Bigger worry is him never coming over. However, in an interview from a months ago he talks about the Russian 5 documentary, and being "shaking with excitement" talking to Yzerman, and that he meets with our Russian scout every few months. This is his last year on his Russian contract so he's just playing it out. He should jump from a top20 KHL scorer to a top10 this year. He got traded to CSKA which is like the yankees of Russia. Augustine the only worry is he just watched his teammate Howard holdout. But we're his hometown team. His coach is a former Wings AC... i guess im not worried. And we have 2 more summers to sign him.

As resident Larkin hater, If I recall, he played 4th line for USA at 4nations. Good tournament for him, but this is how he stacks up against his peers. We'll be a cup worthy team again when our best center isnt an after thought 4th liner in world elite competition.
