Uh... because I suspect they are some HOCKEY fans here... not just band-wagon wings fans. And thus, they are smart enough to form their own opinions without homer biases. Personally, I do believe the Wings will win. 5-6 games. I predict at least one Bert-Iggy fight & one fight from Hudler vs. anyone... well anyone on Calgary that is. Actually, there isn't another western team that I'm truly 'afraid' of... nor are there any I think are pushovers. It's a tight balance... I think I'd rather see Minnesota, Dallas & Nashville come out of the 1st round though... simply because I think those are the weaker teams in their respective series'. The east... well, Buffalo does frighten me. Penguins might also be tough... who woulda thunk it? Pit is going to have some high scoring games (both in goals & goals allowed). I'm hoping Buf get's this years 'upset' award... Hah... I was on a LONG business trip to Norway for the entire first 2 rounds in 2002. I had to listen to streaming audio, over a 28.8, at 3AM in the morning. Sucked... the link was up & down... so I missed a lot. But, as I recall... losing game one and two was just what was needed to really get Dom pissed off. And when that happens, he's likely to setup the game winning goal. Dom's one of the most competitive athletes there is, period. And a little adversity is likely to improve his performance...

I'd love to have him in the lineup too... Kronwall lays on the big hits, but he is FAR from a big defenseman... he's 5'11", like 170 lbs... why do you think he's getting injured so much? He needs to add some serious mass.

Hudler will star... Wings in 3. Calgary will be in such terror of the Mighty Mite, that they'll forfeit game 4.

It's funny you pick on Sabres & Pens when Detroit has the 2nd highest OTL total among playoff teams. We have 13 OTLs, 13 extra points. That drops us to 100, while Sabres would drop to 106.

I thought it was a great ending to an otherwise boring game. I knew there'd be a 'shootout' controversy... but: Who cares!? The rules are the rules. I was sick of hearing the 'I hate the shootout' rant 2 septembers ago. Sure, toronto fans will be pissed... but if there were no shootout, they'd be pissed off about some linesmans call, or some cheap shot by an islander that should have been called, or someones foot being in the crease, etc, etc, etc... Either way, Leaf fans would find something to be pissed about... when the bottom line is, their team lost the season on April 5th when they got slaughtered 5-2 BY THE ISLANDERS. I shall now applaud my brilliance:

The league I play in is every thursday night thru may 10th, so I don't want any thursday games at all! Although, I'd probably have to stay off the ice if a thursday game was an elimination game. Either that, or watch no radio & talk to absolutely nobody until I watch my TiVo recording. Wed/Fri/Sun makes sense logically. Also, that Sunday game is at 3PM ET, 1PM MT. So, that could be our game 3.

I'd love to see the Avs get the 8th spot. As long as we have #1. What better way to get our boys spun up, than to devastate an old rival in the 1st round? Still, the chances of that happening are about 1 in 30. Avs aren't quite good enough to make up that many points & Calgary isn't quite that bad to drop that many points in this last week.

The first reason is, of course, the accident. He stayed in russia to recover & regain his form. During the last few years, he also got married & had a kid. As I recall, he stated last year that he wasn't ready to uproot his family to move yet... furthermore, there is the money issue. He is getting more there than the rookie contract rules allow in the NHL... but what is much more important is taxes. Russia doesn't tax it's athletes... so that's 1M tax free in a poor country with a low cost standard of living versus 850K, heavily taxed, in a rich country with an expensive standard of living... The good news, is that he has stated he'd be coming to the states next season. A strong bull-in-the-china-shop type player would look good on a line with Jiri, Pavel, or Hank... hopefully we'll keep Bert & Calder too... leaving Grigs to compete for one of those top-two-line spots. Ponamaisch tovarisch?

I'd be happy to have Nabby here... but the ONLY way I'd trade for his salary is if Mark Bell came over with him. Nab/Bell for Schneider/Williams/pick That'd shed about 2.4M from their payroll, and give us the potential young power forward we need. Howard may be the future, but G's can take time... so I'm OK w/Nabby sitting in net for a 2-3 years.
