As for Woolley, he's done pretty good in Red. Sure, I would've loved to see us sign a 6'9" 300 pound physical defenseman with a penchant for the net who would also be willing to sign for 450K. But guess what, there aint any. As for draftpick deals... seems to me that Schneider fellow's done OK... Norris finalist & all that...

I'm hoping that all our up-n-comers split their time... rotate through Det for at least 15 games in the NHL. Franzen, Ellis, McGrath, Filppula, Quincey... let them develop in the GR, but give them some NHL experience too. Unless one suddenly appears to be the second coming of Boyd Deveraux that is.

I think his performance is entirely dependant on his linemates. His average speed & small side dictates a need for strong, big or fast linemates to open up room for his skills to shine.

Would be nice to have stuart... but we'd be VERY D-heavy. We'd have to trade some D away for another forward.

Since so many 'trade rumors' posts are not truly rumors, but random blathering of the poster... I figured I'd join in with some random blathering of my own. Thrashers need a quality backup. Why not offer Legace to them and let Mac & Howard dual for the Osgood tag-team? Tho, I don't see much on their team or prospect list I'd want in return. Maybe Stefan or Aubin? Seriously though, I don't think they could do better than Legace unless they wanted a true #1 Goaltender. Legace is the best 2nd in the league, and can step up to #1 if Lehtonen has troubles adjusting. Kenny can you hear me?

One thing is sure - Holland wasn't prepared for this offseason... We may actually lose one of them (Datsyuk or Zetterberg) and I really don't know why he gave that contract to Schneider. Nothing against Schneider but that contract is BS. I think that he started to panic when he saw how quick other teams started to signing FA's and he have to do something. I'm looking for Capitals to make a push for Datsyuk... don't know how this crazy offseason will finish - but I really hope that we can afford to have back those 2 players... WAS is without a doubt, the worse team for 05/06. If they did actually give an offer to Dats & he took it... I'd be damn happy. Dats won't make them good enough. That would mean 4 1st round picks probably in the top 5 or 10 at worst... I could live with that.

We didn't need Hasek vs. the Canes. We did need him in the WCF. The ONLY game in the WCF that we did not need him was Game 7, and we wouldn't have made it to game 7 w/out him. I'm stationed in CO. During game 7 I was driving home... changed out of uniform into my wings jersey... had the top down on my car so everyone could see my colors and cheered for those first 2 goals before I got home. Got a LOT of honks, fingers & dirty looks on that drive home. Thankfully I got home in time to see Patty pulled from the ice.

Good article. I agree with virtually all of their plans, although Filppula perhaps could use another year in Europe as well. I wonder about living Grigs in Russia... why not bring him here in the AHL and let him get more familiar with the smaller ice surface, NA style of play, etc.? I say this only because we need a solid RW very badly. If we could get him in AHL this year maybe he'd be in NHL next year... if he stays in Russia another year it may be 2 more before we see him in Red. Well, at least in our Red.

Bertuzzi on the Wings would certainly renew our CO rivalry.

uh Dipietro kinda has bub. He's been doing pretty damn good for backstopping such a sh*thole team. And Miller hasn't really been given much of a shot....more of head games. They've treated him as the "you'll be the starter soon" on one hand and "you're third string, get back in the minors" on the other. But the way Miller's playing in the AHL this year...they don't really have much of a choice when the NHL comes back. Goalies need time to adapt. The Islanders have been taking it slow with DiPietro and so should the Red Wings with Howard. Most top prospect goalies will need at least 4-5 seasons before they pan out. Look at Theodore, Thibault and Giguere for example. lol@Thibault.... Thibault has yet to pan out Look beyond his stats for a minute. He's a good goalie on a poor team.
