That's super but he's not here now and I'm not going to pretend we had the cap space to sign him... Cap + Weiss situation + center abundance + Holland's history + willing trade partner = no 2nd line center added via trade.
-
I'm not going to pretend that teams are lining up to trade second line centers. One of the very things that are supposedly the highest in demand throughout the league. Top 6 proven centers. On our roster he is. Until other guys consistently prove otherwise. Yes a trade would fill that need. I think that's obvious to everyone.
-
Please...tell us more incredibly obvious things...
-
Ok so who exactly IS putting up points to justify a top 6 position over Helm. Don't see many guys stepping up... Aside from the obvious guys...
-
Do you really see that happening anytime soon though? You can't operate from a what-if mindset. The only way that 2nd line center gets filled is through internal means. Not through trade. Especially with Weiss still on the payroll. We'll do with what we have. Which is a top heavy offense with young, unproven secondary scoring and an abundance of proven bottom 6 talent.
-
Oh I agree with you Rick on Helm not ideally being in the top 6. I just think he's the "lesser of evils" until those other guys can truly earn the right to play there consistently.
-
I don't care how big Helm is. He's one of the best forcheckers on the team and is an absolute puck hound. In order for Franzen and Helm to be on the 3rd line, we need Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco or Weiss to truly grab those second line spots. They have yet to prove that level consistently without being a liability at times so we go with the next best player who's not a liability. ie. Helm.
-
Quite possibly for the same reason Abdelkader plays in the top 6. If you haven't noticed by now, Babcock likes to have a digger/forchecker on his top lines. Helps to roll 4 lines. This is nothing new.
-
Or maybe don't make such radical conclusions on an 11-game sample size?
-
Besides Helm is clearly playing the "Abdelkader role" of digger and forchecker. He's not going to be getting a ton of goals. The ones he does get will probably be pretty dirty.
-
And yet that's still more points than Tatar and Jurco. You know... our actual scoring wingers....
-
Well I do know Matthew Wuest, who created RWC, also created CapGeek. So I'm guessing he took a step back with RWC and a step forward with Capgeek as that site would have a lot of maintenance.

According to RedWingsCentral which WAS a great source of information on our prospects, he was ranked #1 for four straight rankings until he slipped to #4 in his last one. But yes, he was for a year or so, considered our best prospect.
-
You can't just focus on small sample sizes with young players. His success in only a few games was blown out of proportion last year much like his lack of success is this year. He'll be fine.

Weiss sent down to GR- conditioning assignment

Are you just assuming this?? Everyone has a physical and a medical history before they sign a contract. He was confident (as were our doctors) that he could come back from his injury and he hasn't been able to. That's not lying. Unless you know something the rest of us don't. I'm frustrated with the situation but I'm not going to just assume he lied because it's convenient. -

Weiss back on short term IR. Link -
Playing Civ:Beyond Earth. Had to put in some serious time before it truly grew on me. Loving it now. Much different than Civ 5.

The only issues I have are the fairly consistent "This is MY plan for the Year", "This is MY draft plan", "This is MY off-season plan" threads from literally the same people each and every year. (Richdg, blueadams, etc) I think it's awesome that these people have put in the time to think this stuff up and get excited about it. I really do. But it's the way they try and get their point across and the accompanying attitude. Instead of "hey lets create a thread to discuss the off season" its "hey read my essay about my jumbled thoughts and you're foolz if you disagree!!". Because usually what's at the core of their thread is a good discussion piece, but because of the way the topic was framed, it turns into a child-like war. Otherwise LGW and the people responsible for running it are awesome.

Seeing as Boston has had such recent cap troubles and were forced to trade Boychuk, I really think the absolute last thing they would do is trade assets for an injury replacement who's getting paid 5.5 million. This does not affect Myers value in the least.
