GDT 2/26 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Canadiens 1 (OT)
Son of a Wing replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
Agreed. Hopefully Bert's had a good rest. He even looked good at times earlier this season in a limited role so I'm hoping he can return to that. -
I could have swore there's still almost half the season left.... To be fair if we had a thread to summarize all the times you're wrong we'd have to open a whole new site. But hey, point it out when you can. lol

Absolutely nothing there about a "career ending injury". We all know he's injured. With his style of game it's no surprise. Get healthy and take another step forward next season.

Jarnkrok has 13 points in his last 13 games and is finally starting to adjust to the NA rink. Since it's his first year here let's cut him some slack. There's a reason he's been touted as our top prospect for the last couple years. Also Tvrdon amd Frk are in their first pro years. For someone who is so consumed by fantasy and future you sure don't seem to have much patience. Any source on Bertuzzi "career ending injury". Thats quite the statement.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

That's fair. As far as untouchables go, aside from Dats, Z and Kronner and NTCs, I think Holland would move anyone if the right deal presented itself. -
NHL players will not participate in 2018 Olympics (Mod Post #99)
Son of a Wing replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
Bring back the London Lions! Detroit Red Wings first European affiliate. "In 1971, Detroit Red Wings-owner Bruce Norris presented plans for a European professional league with the best teams being able to participate in the Stanley Cup play-offs. Norris envisaged European club teams with working agreements with an NHL club and spent $300.000 on his European team, the London Lions. The league was planned to start in the autumn of 1973 but Russians and Czechs protested as professional athletes would stop all participation in the Olympic Games. The main stumbling block concerned the availability of players for the World Championships, which were played in March and April when the European League would be approaching the playoffs. Even if the idea of a league was off for the 1973-74 season, Norris decided to go ahead with the London Lions, which toured Europe like an ice-hockey equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters." LINK -

So you're talking a Bobby Ryan type deal or a lesser version of that or what? Any way you look at it, if you have a proven roster player coming back with term and value then your going to give up a valuable roster player and/or top prospect and/or high draft pick. -
Well try and be a little quicker next time.

Marchenko out 6-8 weeks per Khan. Will need ankle surgery.

That's so funny. The last time I heard that I fell off my dinosaur. -

Question. How active do you think you will be (at the deadline). Holland - No interest in a rental, only a "hockey deal" because of our playoff uncertainty. Continues on to say..."It'd be pretty hard to miss the playoffs and then go to the draft and we've got a top 14 pick and we don't own it." "We feel good about our goaltending" "We feel good about our depth up front with the way the kids have played" "We would love to have one more veteran defenceman. All our defencemen in the AHL are really just kids." Then continued with a recap that he's going to work the phones looking for a hockey deal or for a veteran defencemen. That's the plan. LINK -
I would. O'Reilly is a very solid 2-way player who can put up a good amount of points. He leads his team in ice-time among forwards and already has 40 points on the season while being the go-to guy on the penalty-kill.
-
Respect is a 2-way street. He can leave at anytime... Considering what he has done for this franchise and fanbase, you would think people would be a little more accommodating when he wants to chase a dream.
-
Agreed. The entitlement and sense of ownership over Datsyuk is getting a little ridiculous here...

I think it comes down to how much us fans feel we "know" a player and what their abilities are. We know our Wings well and what they're capable of. We have expectations for them. High and/or low. When it comes to Weiss, I'd bet the majority (me included) have seen very limited amounts of what he can do. Having a career in Florida and being injured the last couple years has really limited his exposure. All I can do is look at the point totals, his career numbers and highlights as well as hear opinions and base most of my view of the player off that. That's what I feel is the difference in those situations and gives Weiss a longer leash (for now).
-
Absolutely, but we were talking about players who will be in the minors next year.

Official 2014 Olympic Hockey Thread (Admin warning #316)

Just for clarification, this whole "He asked for a trade" is still pure rumour that just happened to leak today.... Seems purely fabricated to me to get people talking about the trade deadline and NHL. -
You say "Yeah I know" and then continue to say that. Which doesn't make a lot of sense. As has been stated by many... he gets the benefit of the doubt because of his body of work. He didn't just magically become a non-factor.
-
Not even a mention of Janmark or Bertuzzi? LW- Athanasiou, Bertuzzi C- Jarnkrok, Janmark RW- Mantha, Nastasiuk, Frk That's a fairly solid group of forwards going forward considering how young they are.

No I think most people realize a top defenceman is going to cost us. It just better be a top 2-3 guy for a trade like that to benefit us. It's the trades for forwards that most people scoff at and see as pointless. -

Sorry, who exactly said this?? -
Great game. Battle to the end. Canada's overall defensive game is just suffocating(for both teams). Can't wait for Sunday! ps. I think waffles/pancakes with syrup is one of the grossest things you can have for breakfast. Batter and syrup to start the day? No thanks.

Agreed but I think there are other mental issues young players can have aside from a bad attitude. No confidence, lack of direction (on and off the ice). immaturity.
