They're a hard working team that relies too much on their goalie.

I was at the game! He looked awesome. Shut down a lot of powerplays and a few 5 on 3s.

Would Samuelsson ever consider retiring mid-season?
Son of a Wing replied to RedSea's topic in General
Sammy averages over 2 minutes per game on the powerplay. That's more than Tatar. He's had his opportunities. -
So basically you don't see the point in making the playoffs unless your favorite to win??

GDT 1/18 GDT: Kings 2 @ Red Wings 3 (Shootout)
Son of a Wing replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
Step back from the ledge people. Enough of the doom and gloom. Time to turn it around here. LGW! -
I'd have interest in Larsson but not at that price. Steep price for an unproven player.

To be honest I'm far more envious of the players that actually play in the league. But that's me. -
25. Anthony Mantha, LW, Detroit Red Wings DOB: 9/16/94 | Age: 19 2013-14 stats (Val-d'Or, QMJHL): 32 GP, 35 G, 38 A, 73 P Preseason ranking: 86 Mantha has become a big name in the prospect world this season, due to the way he's been tearing up the QMJHL and his great performance at the WJC (11 points in seven games). He's a toolsy forward, as he's big with great speed and can impress with his possession skills or finishing ability. He has to improve his play in the defensive end, as well being a little tougher in battles. 24. Calle Jarnkrok, C, Detroit Red Wings DOB: 9/25/91 | Age: 22 2013-14 stats (Grand Rapids, AHL): 38 GP, 10 G, 6 A, 16 P Preseason ranking: 35 Jarnkrok has been just fine in his first AHL season, and I expected more of him given his age and talent. This high ranking is based on hope of greater things to come based on his great hockey sense and creation skills, on top of good things I've continuously heard from scouts over the years. The lack of physical development is concerning. 28. Tomas Jurco, RW, Detroit Red Wings DOB: 12/28/92 | Age: 21 2013-14 stats (Grand Rapids, AHL): 32 GP, 13 G, 19 A, 32 P Preseason ranking: unranked Jurco has been great in his second AHL campaign, earning a brief call-up to the Wings earlier this season. He's a sensational puck handler who can make a ton of plays in the offensive end of the rink. Jurco needed time to adjust to the QMJHL level before he elevated his game, and after a bumpy first pro AHL season he looks to be turning the corner again. ESPN Insider Discuss! FYI Buffalo has 5 in the top 50.

No thankfully it's short term IR so he can come off anytime. I realize now it's just to open a roster spot for Emmerton.

So now Datsyuk is on Injured Reserve as of today?? UGH
-
Kinda disappointing he couldn't hack it in the ECHL. Hopefully he dominates back in junior and comes back next year better for it.
-
Not sure where you get this info from. Out of the players you mentioned for that year, the only players losing exemption in 2015 offseason is Jurco. Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen and even Nicastro don't expire until 2016 because their pro contracts didn't start until this year. The CBA and capgeek waiver calculator confirm this.

The lawsuit the NFL is involved in is much stronger than the NHL one. They're related but not as much as many think. Many different factors in each case.

Oilers trade Dubnyk to Preds; Receive Scrivens from LAK
Son of a Wing replied to WingsallTheway's topic in General
This trade just plain makes sense for all three teams involved. Nashville gets goalie upgrade while ridding themselves of a bloated bottom 6 contract. They have enough bottom 6 guys. Los Angeles gets a pick while replacing the Scrivens with Jones. (an upgrade) Edmonton gets a gritty bottom 6 guy(one of their needs) and a possible goalie upgrade for just a 3rd round pick and a UFA they weren't going to resign. Low risk high reward. -
Making progress but struggling to process things on the ice. Mlive Article

Going to be tough to make any trades and stay cap compliant. We still have to trade a body or two before Weiss returns. Unless someone else goes on LTIR. Trade Quincey to Colorado for Sarich + 7th rounder. - both UFAs but Sarich is 35, makes almost half as much and unlikely to be resigned. Frees up cap space and nets a pick. Colorado needs a defenceman and he's familiar with the players. Trade Kindl + Ferraro + pick to Florida for Kulikov. Waive Sammy and Eaves. FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($3.500m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Tomas Tatar ($0.630m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Riley Sheahan ($0.785m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Danny Cleary ($1.750m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Dmitry Kulikov ($2.500m) / Danny DeKeyser ($0.925m) Brendan Smith ($1.263m) / Cory Sarich ($2.000m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) BUYOUTS Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m) BURIED Mikael Samuelsson ($2.900m) Patrick Eaves ($0.275m) Jordin Tootoo ($0.975m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2013-14 crunched using simulation date of 2014-01-14) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; BONUSES: $2,750,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $629,333

Funny you mention that. Was watching Paul Maurice's press conference with Winnipeg and he was talking about how much he learned while coaching in Russia. One of the main points he made was how different the diet and general eating habits are. As in completely different. So I think you have a good point there. -

You hit the nail on the head in terms of caloric intake and being 18. Playing college football I've seen players put on ridiculous amount of muscle in the span of a few months. Muscle/size doesn't always equate directly to strength though. Regardless in terms of Marchenko, I'm sure he's got a solid frame by now. -
Franzen having trouble processing information
Son of a Wing replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
It's kinda sad that many Wings fans seem to have been waiting for a day like this for Franzen. Just to say I told ya so and prove some opinion they had as being right. Seems many would sacrifice the success of the team just to prove a point. -

Depends on the athlete/sport. When they're doing the amount of aerobic and anaerobic exercises they do. It is very difficult. However a young adult male can definitely put on 30lbs of muscle over the course of a year with strict nutrition and training. -
For the upcoming draft I'd like us to pick Jared McCann for the simple fact we have the same last name. Plus I already have the jersey....
-
When people mention Heatley as a UFA target I honestly can't tell if they're serious or sarcastic or trolling or what....
-
I understood why people may have felt this way on draft day....but still?? Let's do some research first guys... Nastasiuk GP-42 G 13 A 19 P 32 PIM 18 -9 Bertuzzi GP-29 G 10 A 25 P 35 PIM 49 +9 Same league. Not to mention Bertuzzi plays a grittier game. I live in Ontario and watch a decent amount of OHL games. He looks good.

I agree with most of what you said. Definitely in need of a defencemen with a dynamic skillset. Where did you get the info regarding Marchenko? My understanding from what I've seen and heard is he's closer to 180 than 210lbs and not very physical at all. Smart and safe for sure. Great passer and puck-mover. edit. I now see the Red Wings site lists him as 212. Not sure how he could have started the season with the Griffins at 180 and now is listed at 212. Somethings off....
