I believe it's more effective to fill the 4th line with guys who can skate, kill penalties and be defensively responsible. (Miller, Glendening, Sheahan, Andersson) Load the top 3 lines with offensive and 2-way players. Save their energy for even strength and PP.

Would you trade Jimmy for a top pairing dman?
Son of a Wing replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
In regards to the original question...No. Howards our guy. Mrazek and Gus do well in limited action but I wouldn't trust either to carry the load over the course of a season or playoffs. Not to mention, the market couldn't be worse for someone trying to sell a goalie. Too many on the market. Not enough teams in need(admit they're in need). -
Certain NHL attendance metrics are better than NBA

Ha. I can guess.... -
Developing size and toughness does take time. Burke doesn't develop anything. He overpays for "grit and truculence" and depletes roster depth. What exactly has Bergevin done?? Acquired an injury-prone Parros who's played 10 games and has had his worst season to date? Can't always look for the quick fix. If it was that simple everyone would do it. Looking forward to some of these gritty prospects we have coming up.

Winnipeg Jets relieve coach Claude Noel and assistant Perry Pearn
Son of a Wing replied to Euro_Twins's topic in General
Just FYI Winnipeg has publicly stated they're not trading any of their core players for picks/prospects. They would expect a player or players of similar ability/age. Not unproven talent. Unfortunate for us. -
I don't understand people who don't value Miller.

Welcome to the boards Mr. Goulet.

Who exactly has worked out well for the Leafs though?? lol -
Well considering Cleary, Sammy and Bert aren't signed for next season I'm not sure how they're going to be responsible for losing a guy like Callahan to a roster crunch. That dead horse has been beat enough.
-
It's defence as a whole. - Worst goaltending in the NHL - Worst group of defencemen in the NHL - Horrendous at faceoffs. (Nugent-Hopkins is 40%) - undersized forwards can't handle defensive responsibilities. - Kevin Lowe is STILL involved.
-
We need our top guys to step up. Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Kronwall...don't care. Get a goal.
-
Nah then he would have been fighting ALL THE TIME. College let's him focus on his other skills more. Everyone knows he can fight just fine.
-
Good call, it was a bad example. I didn't think having the AHL-only deal extended his rights.
-
Pretty certain. That would circumvent the purpose of the 50 man roster. Much like McCollum's status. He's on an AHL only deal and thus could technically sign with any team on an NHL deal. At least that's my understanding of it. That's a different issue though. That's because he retired while under contract.

There's no doubt that Callahan, Sheahan and to a lesser extent Ferraro are all going to be coming up at the right time as some others are on their way out. Excited to see what they can do. I'd like us to add another grinder of irish descent to make FA - Sheahan - Callahan and call it the "Irish Hand Grenade"
-
That's not true. Signing an ECHL deal has nothing to do with NHL rights.
-
Emmerton was a bad example. My point was he still has the skillset of a grinder. That hasn't magically changed. He's not all of a sudden "dangerous". Above average for the AHL for sure but he's an older player. He should be a leader on that team with the amount of rookies on it. Especially if he expects to make the Wings next year.
-
I don't know about that. He's still a grinder and projected fourth liner. If Griffins stats were that relevant, Emmerton would be our next big prospect with his points/game. Callahan gets a lot of dirty goals. Hope he's at least given a shot next year.

On a positive note, Sweden's coach confirmed Alfredsson will be on team Sweden. -

I think Hudler not being selected is the real story here. A 42 yr old Petr Nedved was selected over him. lol Hell even Vrbata didn't make it. -
Not that simple. There's many factors including age, position and games played. For example: 18 year old Goalie - 6 years exemption - 80 NHL games allowed. 18 year old Player - 5 years exemption - 160 NHL games allowed. 21 year old Goalie - 4 years exemption - 60 NHL games allowed. 21 year old Player - 3 years exemption - 80 NHL games allowed.

Kyle Quincey/Brendan Smith or Ian White/Carlo Colaiacovo
Son of a Wing replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Quincey and Smith are both higher risk players. That's really the only similarity. They have very different styles to their game. -

I'm not sure how it isn't criticism to be compared to Cola and White. lol But I see what you're saying. -
We're making the playoffs. End of story. This reminds me of all the people last year who were hoping we would miss the playoffs to snag a high draft pick and making some selling trades. "Because we didn't have a chance anyways"

This is a real question?? Wow. The hatred for Quincey and criticism of Smith has hit a whole new level.
