I would have to believe Smith would be given an opportunity to fill that spot on the PP before Almquist. I can see him as a 7/8 PP specialist, just never a regular.
-
I would be more inclined to believe it's Sheahan and Ferraro that will make the team. I'm hoping for a trade though. I'll be pissed if we expose half these guys to waivers. I like Almquist and all but I just don't see how he fits into the lineup. Especially with the much more well rounded D coming up behind him. (Sproul, Backman, Ouellet, Marchenko) I'm really pulling for Callahan as well. Hope he comes into training camp like a wrecking ball.

Shea Weber leaves game with Injury
Son of a Wing replied to PredsFanTheBayouState's topic in General
Weber doesn't fight because he's a superstar calibre player and his team cannot afford to have him in the box or kicked out. Why would he waste his time fighting a bunch of scrubs. That would be beyond dumb for the Predators. Also Kronwall constantly plays on the edge but never fights. Do you feel the same way about him? -
I agree. Supposedly (I read it somewhere earlier this season) that there's a lot of interest in Sheahan. Being a large two-way center who's ready and coming up on a new contract. Not to mention our plethora of centermen we already have. Wouldn't be surprised to see Sheahan, Tatar and our first rounder packaged together for a true #1 defenceman or elite forward. Most likely in the offseason because of the cap. Have to give up value to get value.

Shea Weber leaves game with Injury

This all seems kinda hypocritical considering some of the players we currently employ and have employed in the past. Especially considering it really wasn't that vicious. Zetterberg was barely phased. I've seen much, much worse intent to injure. You'd think he shattered his cheek bone or blew his knee out by some of the reactions here. It's the playoffs and yes lots of violent/dirty stuff happens on both sides. Let's not pretend we're above it and our players have never done anything as bad. -
lol Fair enough. Regardless I think we're all excited for what the future holds.

Weiss, Sheahan, Ferraro, and even possibly Callahan will be on the roster before Jurco/Mantha.

Zetterberg to captain the 2014 swedish olympic team?
Son of a Wing replied to kickazz's topic in General
I don't see how Radulov would be a candidate considering he had his captaincy in the KHL stripped away earlier this season. I would put money on Kovalchuk. -
Yup, he has dual citizenship but plays for Sweden. He was actually born in Winnipeg (his father played for the Jets) but has strong Swedish roots.
-
I'm really hoping our Swedes do some heavy recruiting on Steen throughout the Olympics. Considering he's a UFA and all. A Swedish-Canadian top level scorer who's not a liability and just entering his prime? Yes please.
-
Excited to see that Mantha/Drouin combo again.

Have to agree with Dabura and kipwinger here. Seems awfully reactionary and definitely not our style. Playing physical is great and all(we do play physical) but by having us running around looking for big hits and trying to send "a message", it takes us away from our game. We're a puck possession team. If we're being the aggressor and throwing bodies around,it means we don't have the puck. We're plenty difficult to play against. We grind down players will and determination by making them chase all night. That's how the Wings win. Not through retaliation.
-
I can't believe the amount of scoring chances we're generating. This is a team gaining confidence and turning a corner.
-
Looks like last game wasn't an anomaly... That's exciting considering it's without Datsyuk and Dekeyser.

I don't think anyone here hates the Preds. In fact there's probably a good amount of respect for them. I think it has more to do with the fact that this is a Wings site with Wings fans and we all come here for Wings news and other major headlines. Not so much injury updates from teams we rarely play now. For the record I love Weber, being Canadian and all. I wish him a speedy recovery and can't wait for him at the Olympics. -
What could we have had? Alfie and Weiss were two of the best in last years UFA class. Are we really going to assume that all the other free agents wanted to come here to?? What exactly do you expect out of Alfie?? Every fan of ever team can list the best free agent signings and say their GM shouldv'e signed those guys. Building an argument off hindsight and the assumption that everyone wants to come here is obviously full of holes.
-
People need to get past the idea of putting your top 6 "skilled guys" in the top 6. Rarely is this done anymore. Top three lines should be fairly balanced with a net front presence guy, a puck retrieval guy and a shooter.
-
That's just it though. Hating on Weiss is a pretty easy position to take. It's win/win for them. If he doesn't perform they're "right" and if he does it helps the Wings and the greater good and all is forgotten. I guess you could say that for anyone who's overly critical of a player...

Leev or Liv. Not Leaf. -
CBC partners with Rogers in landmark NHL rights deal.

People don't exactly have a lot of faith in Rogers' creative control especially with a monopoly. They've gotten a well-earned bad reputation in Canada. -
Byfuglien.
-
Based on nothing substantial. Just some things I've been hearing and a general feeling. I think it is telling that Gary Leeman is the only player involved so far who has played more than a handful of games in the NHL.

For sure, I definitely agree it will improve over their current standard. As long as the price is right...They do essentially have a monopoly now in Canada and this is Rogers we're talking about. Regardless I'm sure they take some ideas from TSN, CBC, and NBC and probably snag a couple staff in the process.
