CBC partners with Rogers in landmark NHL rights deal.

I'm not sure why it would affect American broadcasting like FSN. As far as Center Ice is concerned, you will see more Sportsnet broadcasts for games in Canada as opposed to TSN and CBC. Watching the Van-Ott game on Sportsnet right now and it's just awful compared to TSN and CBC. Normally I look forward to the discussion between periods, but with Sportsnet it's just cringe-worthy. The difference is just unbelievable. I would honestly put Sportsnet on par wiith non-hockey markets in the US. -
I'm starting to get the impression that this lawsuit is going to go nowhere...

The law is brought in in extreme cases. Bertuzzi, McSorley, Boulerice, Ciccarelli. The fact that you think the elbow on Datsyuk is worthy of criminal charges says it all. It's a slippery slope and highly subjective. I don't see how the fact that they're millionaires is relevant to anything.

On a positive note, the salary cap is expected to go up 10mil in the next 18 months. Link -
Blueadams, something to keep in mind is Sheahan, Ferraro and Callahan are all eligible for waivers next season. I can't see the Wings keeping Mantha, Jarnkrok and Glendening on the roster at the expense of losing all three of those guys on waivers.
-
Hey man I totally agree. Hence why I didn't have them in the lineup I posted. Was just stating why I believe others always overvalue prospects and undervalue vets.
-
Potential (Mantha, Jarnkrok, Jurco) is exciting and limitless.
-
No, you said... Which means he is waiver exempt. Being eligible for waiver is the opposite of waiver exemption. I suggest you reread my original post.

This thread is about next season.
-
Quick stat: Callahan has more points than Jarnkrok and they've played the same amount of games and are the same age. Jarnkrok may have more potential and more skill but Callahan is no slouch. He deserves a shot before being waived.

-No way Dekeyser signs for under 2.5m. -Not much love for Callahan? I think he will be an effective 4th liner. People always say we don't have enough grit... -Ferraro will battle for Miller's spot, Sheahan for Andersson's, and Callahan for Tootoo/Glendening spot. All are eligible for waivers but Glendening. -Bertuzzi will be back. Alfredsson will resign, obviously Ericsson around 4m, think Gus will be back especially with how he has played, I'd rather have the depth. -Would love a top 2-4, right handed, all round defenceman. FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($7.500m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.000m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($4.500m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Tomas Tatar ($1.500m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / Luke Glendening ($0.600m) / Tootoo ($1.900m) Landon Ferraro ($0.900m) / Riley Sheahan ($0.950m) / Mitchell Callahan ($0.600m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / . Top 2-4 Dman ($5.000m) Brendan Smith ($1.263m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($4.000m) Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) / Danny DeKeyser ($2.500m) Adam Almquist ($0.750m) / Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.800m) BUYOUTS Johan Franzen ($0.000m) Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2014-15) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,970,000; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (25-man roster): $330,000

It doesn't have to be a headshot or an elbow to give a guy a concussion. By just "playing hard" there are still going to be plenty of concussions. I don't understand your point...

It'll be interesting to know the details of this case and whether the players involved made applications to the league regarding their injuries and requesting financial assistance. It is part of the reason the Players Emergency Fund was created. I know this from personal experience as my father receives a thousand dollar cheque every month because he needed hip surgery a few years ago and they associated it with his NHL career. By the looks of it though they are going for a much larger amount for a much larger spectrum of players. Hence the class action and the reports of the NHL concealing information.

I don't expect this to be a popular opinion but I really don't think the elbow was that bad. It should have been a penalty but no more. It seemed to not fully connect and thus had no real force behind it. His head barely even moved let-alone snap back. Unfortunately players don't get suspended for intention. Sure Datsyuk is out today but I think that's just precautionary.

He hasn't been convicted. If found guilty, sentences range from probation to 6 months in jail.

There's really no need for comments like this until all the details have come out and the court has made a ruling. Everyone knows domestic violence is a horrible thing. That's stating the obvious. Like Sleepwalker said, these situations are complex. Let's not pretend to know what happened and jump to overboard conclusions.

This, and thank you for mentioning Tatar. I felt like I was going to get lynched by a mob when I criticized his in zone and neutral zone play last week. -
Backman is going to surprise a lot of people as well. Easy to forget about when not in Grand Rapids. Recently ranked as our 8th best prospect.
-
He's been the opposite of clutch. The amount of goals scored on us in the last minute of periods and games is just downright unacceptable from a team and goaltending standpoint. He bears his fair share of responsibility for that.
-
I really like Cammy as a player and person and would love to have him on the team. Not that he's ideally what we need but sometimes you've got to go for what's available or could end up with nothing. However with his pending UFA status I would wait till the offseason. I don't think it's be worth the high rental price even if we could fit him under the payroll. I figure he would cost around a high first and a second or a first and a good prospect.

Huh?? I feel like you're reading my posts and then reconstructing them in your head to convey an argument. I haven't said a word about acquiring a stay at home defenceman. All I said was I don't see the point of acquiring someone who's a defensive liability. We can agree to disagree on Del Zotto. I admitted I was wrong with Kulikov. I'll state again. I'm all for trying to acquire a top 2 guy. High price or not. If that doesn't happen then go for a well rounded depth veteran. We don't need another middle-of-the-pack offensive guy who's not great in his own zone. (Del Zotto)

I also don't think we're going to get a top 4 guy this season. Not so much because of the price but more because of the cap situation. I just don't see how swapping Smith and Alfie makes us a better team and don't think we can afford a trial process. Either way, Alfredsson came here having confidence in the roster we have. Also I'm sure he didn't come here just to be transitioned to a defenceman.
