Yeah Gary made sure to get that in in order to punish anyone who tried to circumvent the cap in the past. Back on topic..no sense in listing franchise guys or captains of other teams. Its hard enough to make a trade let alone one of those types of trades. Maybe take a chance on a guy like Ryan Malone. Big, slow, injury-prone and well into his 30s. Seems like the Wings style lol

I absolutely love it. Day off work, turkey left overs and Red Wing game. Hard to beat.

6'5" 204 with 80 goals in his last 89 games? Can't wait.

Ruslan Salei’s Family Uses Russian TV Psychic To Contact Him
Son of a Wing replied to thegerkin's topic in General
If it brings closure for the family than I guess it serves a purpose. I will withhold my opinion of "psychics". -
On a positive note, we've had a much better start than the Rangers and Sabres.

Not everything's measured by point totals "bro". In regards to Smith, he actually makes me feel sorry for Quincey at times. And I'm not a big fan of Quincey...

All the debate recently about Tatar's development has got me thinking. With our strong depth of prospects and the many roster spots opening up in the next couple years...who's going to make it? This is in reference to next year and the year after. Obviously not this year. Also didn't include some young guys like Mantha, Frk, Athanasiou etc because they're just too young for now and we have strong forward depth, older and more ready than they are. Forwards Glendening - 24 Sheahan - 21 Ferraro - 22 Jarnkrok - 21 Jurco - 20 Pulkkinen - 22 Callahan - 22 Parkes - 22 Nestrasil - 22 I see Glendening in an Emmerton type, 13th forward role next year. He will be in the NHL. Ferraro might get some time as well but not a regular. Sheahan too. As for Jarnkrok I really have no idea. He's rated by alot of people as our top prospect and has proven himself a top player in the SHL but has yet to prove anything on north american Ice. That's not to mention he's undersized and we already have an abundance of centers. He'll get a shot in the next couple years but I see it being on the wing. I don't see Pulkkinen becoming complete enough to get a shot in the next couple years and I think we have too much depth for Callahan even though I do really like the guy. Maybe eventually. Defence Jensen - 22 Nicastro - 23 Almquist - 22 Marchenko - 21 Backman - 20 Sproul - 20 Ouellet - 20 Nedomlel - 20 As far as defenceman go, I could see Jensen see some time if he plays as well in the AHL as he did in college. Nicastro and Almquist might see some time as they have completely opposite skill sets and I'm sure we'll be in need of one or the other if not both for depth. I don't see them rushing the other younger guys even though they all have a higher potential. PS. Save the "Holland will just let them rot anyways" type comments for the Tatar thread. Just looking for some healthy discussion on our next set of guys.

Next Stage of Prospects: Who Makes the Cut?
Son of a Wing replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
It's his age. He can play in the NHL but is too young for the AHL. If that makes any sense...lol There is a private agreement in place between the NHL and the CHL that governs when a player coming from the CHL can play in the AHL. A player from the CHL has to either turn 20 by December 31st of the season OR have completed 4 seasons of junior eligibility. This agreement also covers European players if they are drafted out of the CHL. College players and European players (provided they are drafted out of Europe--even if they later play in the CHL) are not covered by this agreement. They only have to abide by the AHL's age requirement, which is that a player has to turn 18 by September 15 of any given season to be eligible to play. -

I'd say so. Especially with how Babcock was praising him during the Calder Cup run. Link -
Next Stage of Prospects: Who Makes the Cut?
Son of a Wing replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
That still doesn't explain what context it was said in and who he was skating with at the time. It's not a comparison to all our other prospects. Was that not when he was skating with a bunch of other new prospects? As I remember most of the more established prospects were not there. -

No I didn't forget them. I stated in the initial post why I didn't include Frk, Mantha, Athanasiou etc. I agree. I think they're going to take their time with Sproul. Massive potential though. In what context? I would have to think that's in relation to our other prospects just drafted with him and not our entire prospect base. Still going to be a few years before we see him. He will see the AHL first. -

That sounds like a lot but it would still leave 11 forward and 6 defence spots tied up if you count Tatar, Ericsson, and Dekeyser resigning. *edit spelling -
So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?
Son of a Wing replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
I know it's not much relief but if he legitimately doesn't deserve to be on the roster than I don't want him on it. Just going to have to bite the bullet on that one if he doesn't crack it. However if Sammy does play at the level he has played in the past then they can send Emmerton and Eaves (1.2 mil under cap) to the minors if they can't be traded. Eaves might even get claimed. Bottom-line it's going to be the most competitive training camp we've had in years. That's a great thing. Bottom couple forwards are going to get traded/waived/minors and pretty much any scenario will fix the cap issue because it seems all but certain Helm is going to be on IR. By the time Helm comes back we will have already been through training camps and the first part of the season. By then, in order to open a roster spot, there will be more trade action because of teams injuries and expectations as well as dealing with injuries of our own. It will get sorted out. -

I must have missed the memo stating Tatar is getting traded/waived/screwed. How everyone has made this about Tatar is dumbfounding. Now if you're complaining about bringing back Cleary over Brunner, that's understandable. Cause you know....THAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Quit jumping the gun and getting all enraged over things that haven't even occurred. As I stated before...Send him to the minors if he declines a trade. That relief (I know its not his full salary) and the relief from Helm being on IR puts us under the cap. by close to a million with just one more roster spot to clear. People are making this situation a lot more dramatic than it needs to be. Depth is a good thing people. Weeds out whoever is at the bottom whether that be Emmerton, Eaves, Tootoo, Sammy or anyone else. We don't even need a trading partner to make it work. -

I still don't see the situation as being that complicated. Helm - Will start on IR and probably be on there till the new year. Emmerton - Waived if not traded. (Dats, Zetts, Weiss, Andy, Franz, Abby can all play center so don't give me that we need to keep him because Helm is injured) Sammy, Eaves, Tootoo - battle out the last couple spots. Trade/Demote who doesn't cut it. Leaves us with a 23 man roster and over 1 million in cap space. -
Samuelsson - is there any WAY in hell we can get rid of this guy? whos

A few points. 1. I'd like to see 3 strong scoring lines with 1 shut down line. 2. Sammy is probably going to play whether people like it or not. 3. Strongest players should play center if available. Just because you center the 3rd line doesn't mean you're getting third line minutes. 4. How can you not start out with some kind of form of a Swedish 5 with Olympics upcoming? Nyquist Zetterberg Alfredsson Franzen Datsyuk Bertuzzi Tatar Weiss Samuelsson Abdelkader Helm/Andersson Tootoo/Miller Kronwall Ericsson Kindl Dekeyser Smith Quincey

Smith. He has the biggest gap between proven ability and potential ability. If he steps it up, it will completely change the dynamic of our defense.

Extensions for everyone! Niklas Hjalmarsson gets 5-year

I think it's market value for a top contending team. Especially when comparing to a contract like that of Kronwall, Vlasic or Edler.
