An improvement for sure. I especially like the newly added laces as well as the colour separation between the jersey and pants.

He really exposes Campbell and Barker and how useless they are defensively. lol
-
I think calling them future stars is overly optimistic. Nyquist and Mrazek are definitely on their way but still have a ton to prove. Bottom-line if you're going to go after a guy like that you'd better be prepared to give up a couple of your top prospects. Even more if you're not giving up any quality proven roster players. I just think it's too easy to list a bunch of b-level prospects along with Franzen if you're expecting to get one of the most valuable defenceman in return.

Haha Yes I agree. Initially I left Jurco out. Although I don't think they would ask for much less. In a trade like this, Quincey is of little to no value as a pending UFA and is more or less to make salary cap/roster room. Secondly a young #1 stud defenceman is quite possibly the most valuable commodity out there and you would overpay to acquire one.

Alex Pietrangelo / Oliver Ekman-Larsson / Alexander Edler / Dustin Byfuglien / Dan Girardi / Kevin Shattenkirk / Marc Staal / John Carlson / Zach Bogosian / Victor Hedman / Tyler Myers / Adam Larsson Would absolutely love to snag any one of those guys. Minimum price tag (Byfuglien/Girardi) - Quincey, Jensen, 1st round pick Maximum price tag (Pietrangelo/Ekman-Larsson) - Quincey, Nyquist, Mrazek, Ouellet, Jurco, 1st round pick.

First of all to think only the goalie has to be "mentally engaged" for the whole game is pretty ignorant. To play a high-speed impact sport at the highest professional level you need to be mentally engaged at all times, know whats going on in the play, and be ready to be called on for anything. Just because a skater is on the bench doesn't mean he's "tuned out". Secondly I definitely disagree that an enforcer is the toughest job in the NHL. Like every player an enforcer gains his role through having a specific skill set. The difference for an enforcer is that he would be called upon the least to fulfill his role out of almost every player on the team besides the backup goalie. Is it a physically grueling role? Absolutely. To say it's tougher than a defensive forward who kills penalties all night long and has to shut down the opposition's top line though? No.

Who do we Unload, reload on before the season starts?

I agree with you that we are very likely to have to retain salary in a potential deal. Merely because we're at such a disadvantage in negotiating a deal with our roster/cap predicament. That may even negate us to include a pick. No chance Nyquist goes to Grand Rapids though. That would be an absolute last resort. In regards to Draper and Maltby's situation I suspect that was a bit different than Bert and Sammy. I just feel the there's a different expectation of these two in their final year than there was with those two. I honestly feel Holland believes Bert and Sammy can be effective top 6/9 forwards and put up points. That wasn't the case with Drapes and Maltby in their final year. Whether Holland is right on that...well we'll see. I'm not banking on them. THIS for sure. We may just have to wait another year....Seems like we say that every year....sigh. -

They're not "holding the organization hostage". It's not their fault we signed to many forwards and are exceeding the cap. They want to play and contribute and they have every right to attempt to do so. The way you state it you seem to think going on LTIR is a choice. You have to be declared by a physician to be unable to play for a minimum of 24 days or 10 games because you are "injured, ill or disabled and unable to perform your duties as a hockey player". For the record Bertuzzi and Sammy both claim to be feeling great and are very excited for this season. -

I really don't see any of the vets getting sent to the minors (it's just not how the Wings do business) and I don't see us getting anything of value for our extra bottom six forwards. Especially with the amount of unsigned UFAs still available and the mindset of many teams to let their young players fill the holes. Why would a team give up even a 7th rounder for Eaves when guys like Morrow, Cleary, Raymond, Grabovski, Latendresse, Brunner, Steckel, Boyes, Stewart etc are all still available. Many at a cheaper price. The only scenario I really see happening is one or more of Helm, Sammy, Bert starting the year on LTIR and/or a swap for a cheaper borderline NHLer/journeyman AHLer with a 2-way contract. One who another team would like to dump while adding a guy like Eaves/Tootoo/Emmerton in return. I wouldn't even be surprised if we would have to send a pick along with them as cap space seems to be the biggest commodity right now. Bottomline we're not getting picks in return for these guys. -
Signed Joakim Andersson re-signs, 2yrs, $1.465m ($732,500k cap hit)

Frankly I think greater depth and the ability to roll four strong lines is more important. And you realize Andersson only makes about 200,000 more than Emmerton right? -
Yep, that's what I thought (NHL Team "luck")

Baseball is not comparable to hockey in terms of numbers analysis. Not saying it should be disregarded. But it's definitely not on the same scale. -
For Magnus Paajarvi and a 2nd round pick

David Perron traded to the Oilers..

Here's an article discussing the basics of it. It's from 2011 but is still very relevant as the rule has not changed. It discusses the thought process behind it and how it pertained to the Rangers and Glen Sather/Chris Drury then. Only Sammy is eligible as the other two don't make the required $2,750,000/annually in salary.
-
You just linked me to that quote lol I dont think you did read it...
-
It's all explained for you in the article I already quoted and linked to.
-
And it starts again in August for ordinary buyouts.
-
Just to clarify for people... Ordinary Buyout - starts in August - If Bought out Sammy's caphit this year would be 1 million as well as 1 million next season. (2/3rds spread over spread over 2 seasons) - total of 2 million in savings for this year.
-
Source? Because you sure do seem confident... This seems to say otherwise...

No it's not. Maybe if it said "Bought out Samuelsson". As I understand it, yes we can. He's either going to be eligible for buyout or LTIR.
-
Yeah plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but I just realized we're past the stage for normal buyouts regardless. Not just Compliance. So trades it is...
-
Its not complicated...Sign all 3 for around 1.5-2 million each...Would put us at 16 forwards 7 defense......trim 2 forwards via buyout and trade with one being Sammy. Voila! edited for clarification...

Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million

They should have just stuck with Vinnie... -
I see we're copy and pasting from thread to thread now... This is not going to take away any roster spots from the youth. If anything it will take away Cleary, Fil, Brunner, Sammy or Bertuzzi's spots. As they are all either expired this year or the next. This is one of the most exciting days in the last few years and of course you find a way to criticize it.
