TSN's "Expert" Panel Standings and Cup Picks
Son of a Wing replied to Captain_Yzerman19's topic in General
Pretty good predictions. Do you have a link? I don't see this anywhere on their website. -
I don't see why this is such a big discussion. A captain or alternate is decided mainly on attitude, vocal skills in the locker room and talking to refs(both of which we have no idea who is strong at other than whats put in the media). Yes a factor is leading by example but some of you are just blowing that out of proportion. Comparing points? Come on. I'm going to trust the team and Detroit management on this one.

Good for Downey and Ellis. They both deserve to make the team for now. By the sounds of it as long as Grigorenko plays great in the AHL (I have no doubt he will) and gets his skating legs back he'll bump one of those guys off in about a month since Downey has a 2-way clause and Ellis can still be sent to the minors. Although who knows who might have a bad season or get injured. At least we have a lot of depth and guys with the right attitude to step up. Downey will probably play around 30 games for us as long as we avoid any major injuries. I wouldn't get your hopes up for much more. Ellis is the wildcard but his work ethic and attitude are second to none. He'll be regular 4th liner before long. Probably not till next season though. This is probably the most depth we've had in years. At every position there are guys ready to step up. Looking forward to a great regular season and long playoff run.

Wow just chill out. You're giving him satisfaction by getting all mad don't you see that? All this over a 13-14th forward.
-
He can have all the heart in the world, he's got no where near the talent to crack this lineup. There's a reason he has never played more than 43 games in a season. If I have to ask myself the queston "Would this player(Downey or any other player) even be in the nhl if he didn't fight?" and the answer is no, than I say no thanks. I believe Downey falls in that category. No but you sure as s*** clutter up the message board.

They sure do seem to be writing a lot of articles on Wings players. Not that I am complaining Article Link

Whine whine whine whine whine. Seriously, you guys didn't get it all out in the offseason? Why do you guys feel the need to constatntly repeat yourself every single day in nearly every thread. We get it, you want an enforcer. You shouldn't have gotten your hopes up. I can't believe people actually think another teams players are going to think twice about their actions because we have frickin' Downey on the team. Without that he's worthless.

Article Link I think he's staying.

You made my night! Its blacked out for me on center ice and this let me see the 3rd period. Thanks so much. Can this be provided for all the games?

Any Pittsburgh Radio station carrying the game?

Artcle Link Good article. Looking forward to see what these guys can do in Grand Rapids this year. We should have a GREAT AHL team this year and even more guys pushing for roster spots next season. The Future looks bright

This is really too bad for the Canucks. Sounds like the Luongo injury isn't serious and hopefully they other two aren't either. Hoping for speedy recoveries! Link

He brings more to the team than just points. Hes a great two way player and a tenacious worker. Good signing.

Funny video of Chelios courtesy of Kuklas Korner. Probably from 98 or early 99. Oh how things have changed Video

I agree but like Babcock said he wants 14 forwards on the roster and I think thats to enforce a competitive atmosphere. If a player goes into a slump or someone stops backchecking, I don't think Babcock would hesitate to change up the dress roster. Do I see Downey as regular in the lineup? no. Would he play more than Norton did last year? yes. That is IF he makes the team.
-
Thanks for not responding at all to the issue of lack of proven scoring depth or a proven second line center. This isn't the same team as last year and we are adapting to that. I'm sure they will be together on the powerplay and will be very successful there.
-
I think if Downey does make the team he will be utilized differently than Norton was last year and given more icetime. Downey is a much better all-round hockey player than Norton is. Thats not saying much in comparison to Norton, but he's just not near a liability.
-
I think you are all forgetting about their biggest off-season acquisition of all. Brad frickin' Norton! I mean, do you really think Detroit can cope with that loss?
