All in all not bad for a year when we didn't have a 2nd rounder.
Most of them seem to exceed the potential of the players picked after them. Heck, even many before them. You're not going to hit on every pick and you have to expect other teams are going to hit on players as well.

So, Dobson, Bouchard or Wahlstrom?
Boqvist and Hughes?
Oh right... you hate anyone under 6 feet.

10 minutes ago, WingedWheel91 said:There is alot I agree and disagree with here, but I will generalize my argument the quickest way possible:
If we get a lucky bounce in the lottery and get Dahlin this summer, we are instantly closer (and more attractive to FAs). There is no argument in the world that justifies wasting 3 years of term and cap dollars for a 34 year old replacement level player (thanks for the 16 points) at a time where names like Tavares, Doughty, Karlsson are going to hit the market. These pieces fall 1 by 1, and that $3,000,000 is far more valuable in the bank than spent on the production Trevor Daley could ever bring us.
I agree that if we don't get Dahlin, Trevor Daley's contract isn't going to cripple us - but my issue is (and always has been) a matter of philosophy. I thought last summer Holland would spend that amount of time trying to get rid of a guy like Ericsson, instead of adding a similar player for as many years. Hell, I would have been happier if he got rid of Ericsson and ate $3,000,000 of his salary because we would be as bad today with more money and roster spots available.
It looks bleak today, but a lot can change on draft night and the months that follow. I won't ever agree with wasting money on older players before we are contending, especially when we have way to many of them already.
So you're not going to sign a mid-level player in 2017 because a couple guys might be available in 2019??
Again...Daley's contract is the last of our worries. I don't really know what to say if you really think that that signing is going to have any effect on any of those guys signing here....It won't.
Holland is always going to want character veteran role models around. Daley is a good one who doesn't break the bank and fills a need. Trade a forward if you have to.

Not even sure if you are interested in translation, but... ok, let´s try.
- "I was told I´m not going to make AHL, while goalies there are well paid there. I didn´t really expect this is NHL organization but what could you do..."
- "I was signing the contract with idea of fighting for AHL starter spot. Ok, I´ve said, I have nothing to lost. Then they signed another goalie. They probably felt pity of him that nobody want him or what."
- Interview was done prior to Mrazek trade. "I will finish the season here. I don´t have intention to continue in US next yeat"
- "Yes, AHL is sort of motivation for me. I believe I´m doing my best."
- "I will stay if they will pay me. Otherwise I´m leaving, .. I believe I´m good enough to don´t play somewhere in some ECHL"
...funny part about his overseas experience.
- If you ask some citizen here about the city, they will mention just where some fast foods are. Not really surprised about their obesity. You switch on the tv and you´ve got like nine minutes of fast food and coke commercials mostly within ten minutes . Or medicines or army. Kind of brainwashing online. Keep track with Kardashians etc., I don´t really get that..."
- "Green brains. Got army all around the world and paying tribute for every single soldier guarding some beach somewhere."
- But he´s also positive. "People are more friendly here. Better than in CZ. Really trying to help you." He does enjoy GR as very nice city with good cousine etc.
- About his fight "I´ve been always dreaming about this. Pity that guy was just blocking me, probably understood that wouldn´t be good for him. "

As I've said I think Holland will be smart enough to get all three in bridge deals. However do I think we could gamble and possibly win on a 6x8 type contract with Larkin? Yeah I do and I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

Sometimes I’m glad Ken Holland is the GM for this team.
Now I’m positive I prefer a bridge deal if that’s truly what the thought process is.
Hell take Larkin to arbitration if it comes down to it.
Have you honestly not noticed a trend league-wide where teams have starting locking up their players for their core years coming right off entry -level? You're acting like this is some crazy unprecedented thing that has never happened before.

He signed that after his 3rd year and he'd had 2 out 3 years where he was a 50+ pt. player (and only played 62 games in one of those years) and the year he wasn't, was the lockout year, but his 24 pts would be around 50 or just below if equated to a whole season. To me that was definitely a record to demand 6 mill. People are really down on RNH now, but that wasn't the case early in his career.
He outproduced Larkin in every compareable year (though he might get more than RNH's 3rd year tally of 56 pts. this year). Plus Larkin had that down 2nd year.
And just thinking of the Nuge's dropoff, such would be the gamble of signing Larkin to a similar deal. i like me some Larkin, but maybe we should go bridge deal here for cap reasons and with Larkin's last year, I still think there's some uncertainty with him.
Except that deal was signed 5 years ago. Judging for market inflation he would have received 7.5-8m today. Making Larkin's 6x8 deal seem quite reasonable.
For every Nugent-Hopkins there's a Nathan MacKinnon.
Anyways here's hoping for 3 bridge deals but I wouldn't be surprised to see Larkin sign long-term.

1 hour ago, kickazz said:What does size have to do with anything? Didn't know NHL paid based off of height and weight. Nyquist scored 27 and 28 goals consecutively and still got a fair bridge contract. His hype was huge; maybe you've forgotten. A lot of Larkin's hype is theoretical unlike Nyquist or Tatar's who had legit consistent production for a few years.
Are we talking about locking his actual calibre? or potential? because the two are different things.
It's not. Holland has taken his last 5 RFAs to arbitration. He doesn't blindly go with what other GMs do. That's probably the one big thing I like about the guy. He's good about his RFAs. Always has been.
He's not going to overpay (if he thinks it's an overpayment even if it isn't compared to what other GMs have done) for Larkin.
Ummm no. Larkin's ceiling, potential and pedigree is much higher than those guys were ever considered. Yes Nyquist had hype about possibly becoming a "Zetterberg-lite". That's nothing compared to a potential #1 centerman who plays a complete 200ft game.
-
I think a bridge deal for all three would probably be in our best interest. Especially with our current cap situation.

9 minutes ago, kickazz said:Can he go to arbitration consequtively like that?
Looks like he can.

$5.5 x 6 or $6x8 for an unproven player is ridiculous. Nyquist and Tatar had to put in a lot more years to earn their contracts.
Larkin hasn’t even had a consistent 82 game season yet. (He might this year).
This league is terrible if that ends up happening. I hope Holland lowballs the s*** out of him and they end up meeting halfway.
What do Nyquist and Tatar have to do with anything? Larkin is a potential #1 center. They were undersized potential top 6 wingers. The HYPE isn't even close to comparable.
If you want to lock in a player of Larkin's caliber for 8 years you have to pay. Obviously theres risk in that. It's a gamble for both sides.
It's all about recent comparables.
chaps80, krsmith17 and marcaractac reacted to this -
At minimum Larkin is going to get Bo Horvat money.
$5.5m x 6
No way his agent settles for less unless they're doing a bridge deal.
$6m x 8 sounds alot more realistic. It's always more than you think when it's a long-term deal for a key young player.

Come on... The difference between RFA and UFA contracts has been explained time and time again. They're not comparable.

I'd have to imagine that in the end Green wasn't traded because of his NTC and not because of the injury. I really think that once Tampa and Wash were ruled out, he didn't want to move.
I'm not saying the injury didn't scared people off, but I don't believe for a second that Vegas didn't want him in the Tatar deal after failing on Karlsson.
-
It still doesn't explain why Green couldn't have been traded for a conditional pick. That's the whole point of conditional picks.

I don't buy it and I don't think anyone else will either. He's on an expiring contract with everything to prove and he's dealing in a seller's market. The ball is not in his court.

Why is he talking about the next year or two?? That quote scares the crap out of me. Seems like he's already putting out the fires for not selling at the deadline.

Damn us only knowing names and numbers!

What exactly has Vilardi done since the draft to be so highly regarded?

"But the simple fact is Quenneville believed that Jordan Oesterle, Connor Murphy, Michal Kempny, Gustav Forsling and Jan Rutta (who carry a combined cap hit of $7.195 million) have played better than Seabrook (who has a cap hit of $6.875 million, with six more years left on that contract)."
