Another PP upcoming.
-
HOMER!!! Wow, so THAT'S what it feels like to see a goal!
-
PP coming up. If we're wanting to have a chance at this game, we have to score here.
-
Oh that was weak... That goal hurts way worse than the first goal...
-
0 for 6. Though we had a few better chances that time...
-
Perry goes after Abs. Leino, ouch. Face gets smashed by Perry's elbow... Though, that was unintentional.
-
Geez, 0 for 5 on the PP so far...
-
We can discuss this in the GDT.

Wow, shades of Jiri Fischer there. Glad to hear that he's ok, and no major action needed to be taken. Godspeed on a quick recovery.
-
Keep it civil folks, or this thread will get yanked so fast your head will spin.
-
Alright... If this is going to turn into Crosby vs. Ovechkin, let's at least keep it to their on-ice conquests.

Per TSN.ca http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=299574 TSN seems to be having problems with the link. If you get routed to the TSN "Site Map", just close the page and click again.

Fair enough, how about this. Tomas Kaberle of the Leafs has a rather famous no trade clause. His NTC is pretty much common knowledge, as MacK_Attack will attest to. Do you see anything on NHLPA.com about his no trade clause? Just because it's not listed on the PA's website, doesn't mean it's not in his contract. And now I'm going to get nitpicky, the NHLPA website is not an official "league" website. The NHL and the NHLPA are two completely separate entities. They are no more part of the NHL than the UAW is part of Ford/GM/Chrysler. Granted, Hudler didn't buy into the loyalty aspect to re-sign here, but just because he rejected it doesn't mean that we should throw the baby out with the bathwater. Hudler is more what would be considered the exception than the rule. Player loyalty is VERY important here, and our contract extensions given in the last few years prove that. Lidstrom, 2006. 2 year extension for 7.45 million/year. Fresh off winning his 4th Norris, easily still in the prime of his career. Could have made 8 or 9 million by going somewhere else. Zetterberg, 2005. Signs a four year contract with a 2.6 million/year hit. Easily could have made more by going to the KHL or by signing an offer sheet with another team (he was an RFA that year). Sure, he had more limited choices than if he was a UFA, but he still had choices. Datsyuk, 2007. Signs a seven year extension, at a 6.7 million/year hit. Just TRY to convince me (or anyone on these boards) that Datsyuk couldn't get more money somewhere else. Zetterberg 2009. Franzen 2009. You may see isolated incidents, but I see a pattern. To put it another way, if the organization's loyalty isn't what's helping us keep our talented players for what many would call below market value, then what is? Is Kenny Holland hypnotizing them during the contract negotiations? Slipping them a Mickey before they sign? That said, this thread has run it's course. Look at almost all the other posts here if you don't believe me.

Fine, if you want to get nitpicky about it, how do you know that Lidstrom isn't making $7.45 a year to play for us? (That's seven dollars and forty five cents, not seven-point-four-five million dollars). Have you seen his contract with your own eyes? How can you know for sure that the figures listed on this site or any other site are legitimate? NHLSCAP.com is very reputable when it comes to things like this. Matt lists that site as one of his sources for the Salary Chart that's available here on LGW.)

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/trade_deadline/notrades.html http://www.insidehockey.com/columns/3151 Trust me, it's there. I didn't realize it was a No Movement clause, not a No Trade clause, but I do remember them stipulating that when he re-signed with us a few years ago. I don't think this was a new item in his most recent extension, I seem to remember seeing something about him getting it when we re-signed him in 06.

No Movement Clause. Plus, that is a really good way to devalue all of the storied "loyalty of the organization" that we have used for years to bring in good free agents. Furthermore, what kind of message do you think that would send to the young players we have now? "Gee, thanks for playing all those years, winning all those accolades, and being an ambassador for the game, but now that times are a little rough we're going to sell you up the creek! Come talk to us when you retire, and we'll have a 'special' night for you!" You can forget the idea of homegrown/drafted players ever taking a "hometown discount" again. Doing something like that would be devastating on so many levels it's almost beyond comprehension. Lose-Lose situation, IMO.

Bad timing on the penalty Cleary.

Ah, Bert just lost an edge...

Through and through, that period was just plain bad.
