And the article linked earlier was a little more cloudy. Helm might be ready by the season opener, he might not be. And I just realized I worded my previous post wrong. I meant to say "if no trades, and if Helm isn't ready to go, he'll be LTIR'd, yadda yadda yadda". Sorry for the confusion. That's what I get for trying to make a coherent point in the forums on my iPhone...

Just a guess, nothing more. Lots of stories/articles online have stated that Helm could be placed on LTIR if he's not ready to start the season, thus leaving Detroit only one player over the roster limit. Still leaves another move to be made for cap compliance and roster limit, of course. But Helm on LTIR temporarily makes Kenny's decision a little bit easier.

I'm guessing that if no trades can be worked out, Helm will start the season on LTIR, thus relieving one roster spot. Hope he continues to get better, and only comes back when he's completely ready.

Awful, awful choice. The fake laces and stars are just the horrible icing on the horrible cake.

George Malik also believes Kovy will have the "C", and he has a pretty well thought reason for it too, his signing with the KHL... http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/red-wings-afternoon-news-non-controversial-datsyuk-babcockian-praise-nyquis I think it will be Ovechkin, though. No Russian was more vocal about the NHL participation in Sochi than he was.

The San Jose Sharks unveiled their new home and away uniforms today. And if you ask me, they look like cheap practice jerseys. Gone are the shoulder caps, and the stripes around the waist. According to their website... That's right, folks. The Sharks have been classic under-performers because those jerseys just weighed too darn much. So they're using practice jerseys from here on out because that will take them to the next level...

San Jose Sharks decide to use practice jerseys from now on...

Indeed! Something that only 3 teams in the NHL currently use, Colorado, Detroit, and NYR. Detroit's been using the vertical arched letters since 1982, New York since 1990, and Colorado since their inception in 1996. -

Actually, no. They're still keeping the black 3rd. They even have a schedule as to which games they'll wear the black jerseys (including the January 19th game against Detroit). Long and short, they'll wear them every Thursday and Sunday, excluding the season opener. https://twitter.com/SanJoseSharks/status/370276220182601728 -

If anyone follows Phoenix forward Paul Bissonnette (@BizNasty2point0) on twitter, you probably know he gets more than his fair share of trolls and hecklers. Often he'll re-tweet a heckling post, and give some kind of snarky comeback. However, he pulled out the big guns against a troll a few days ago... http://deadspin.com/man-trolls-paul-bissonnette-bissonnette-posts-mans-ar-1155557874?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow (emphasis mine on the headline) Read the whole story for the links he posted. The heckler quickly learned the old metaphor "Never argue with a man who buys ink by the barrel".

Ansar Khan gave a pretty good summary of where we stand at the moment in a story yesterday. It's worth reading the whole thing, but here's what he had to say about the Wings currently... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/08/red_wings_have_some_business_t.html

signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)
Jedi replied to ogreslayer's topic in General
Still no word of a number for him yet. As to why he hasn't picked a number, it's been discussed a couple pages back. Long story short, he's/they're probably waiting to see if Cleary comes back and wants his #11. If Cleary is gone (which I believe he is), then Alfredsson will take it. If Cleary returns, Cleary might give the #11 to Alfredsson for the one season he'll be here, or Alfie might pick something else. -

Signed Joakim Andersson re-signs, 2yrs, $1.465m ($732,500k cap hit)
Jedi replied to Ram's topic in General
Well, yes and no. His last contract was a 3 year ELC, with a NHL-pay cap hit of $875k, after performance & signing bonuses. It was a 2 way deal, though, so his salary was considerably lower while playing in the AHL. And his NHL base salary was $637,500 last year. This deal, however, is a one way contract, with no performance or signing bonuses. So while his cap hit is lower, his actual "take home" salary will be higher. Andersson's Cap Geek page. -
If anyone happens to live in the South/Southeast part of the country, and happens to like 80's music, I STRONGLY recommend going to see The Molly Ringwalds. They're an 80's cover band, who each dress up as an 80's icon. Pee Wee Herman, Twisted Sister, The Karate Kid, Devo, and Adam Ant are their usual costumes. They absolutely nail the music every time, and they put on a great show. I catch them here in Dallas about 3-4 times a year. Here they are at a Halloween performance (which is why they're all dressed as Ninja Turtles) playing Material Girl from Madonna...

Shanny is the perfect example of why the Wings need a "Ring of Honor" in the new arena. Gives the Wings a way to honor guys like Shanny, Homer, etc, who certainly deserve great recognition, but don't quite meet the standard set by Stevie and Nick.
