If Hank stays with Detroit, I guarantee it will be for a deal that other GM's would KILL for. That said, it's going to be a good sized hit towards the cap, no doubt. He's been underpaid for each year he's been on this contract, and was VASTLY underpaid last year (and most likely this year as well, if his play continues to improve at both ends of the ice). Kenny will want to lock him up long term, so something that is comparable to Datsyuk's deal in terms of length, but I'd wager he makes more per year (or cap hit, if his salary escalates during the deal) than Pavs. My guess echoes what's already been said in this thread. Something in the range of 7-8 mil for at least 5 years, probably closer to 7 or 8. And it wouldn't surprise me to see his salary go up after Lids' current contract expires. And that's STILL a steal over what he would command on the open market, Hockey-Gods forbid...

From what I remember right as McLellan was hired away, he was responsible for the offense and the Power Play. I can't find anything to back up the part about the offensive side, but I did find this link (USA Today) to back up the part about the PP...

Offense looked improved tonight. That OT winner was classic Datsyuk finishing in the offensive zone, found Hossa perfectly on the tape. As picture perfect as that pass was, Hossa would have REALLY had to work at it to miss the back of the net with that one. The first-goal-monkey is off his back, and he got arguably as big a goal as you CAN get for his first. With any luck, that'll be a springboard for big things to come. OMG HOSSA!!! Lol.
