Fixed it for ya.

I don't think Ilitch would ever green-light Holland to be a seller unless the Wings were 10-20 points out of playoff contention by the deadline. Ilitch has always maintained that he wants this club to compete for the cup every single year, and I doubt he'll change that stance anytime soon.

Don't get me wrong, I support the cause as much as anybody, but there's no way that the Count is going to be fired anytime soon. The owners (most of them, that is) still love him for playing hardball with the 'PA, and getting them the salary cap that they've always wanted. Plus, the CBA that's in place now was a HUGE victory for the NHL, and a HUGE loss for the NHLPA. The owners said all along they wanted a cap, linked to revenues. The players said they would never agree to a cap, especially if it's linked to revenues. And what did we get? A cap linked to revenues. Bettman won that battle, though it cost him a season to do it. If he were going to be fired at any point in his tenure, it would have been around mid February '05, right after the announcement of the cancellation of the season, and the failed "last-minute-we-might-un-cancel-the-season" meetings.

Ugh... Sorry, but those are hideous. Although, that might just be my hatred of the color green speaking...

The only way I could see the Wings shipping Lang is if we landed Floppa. Now that Forsberg's out of the picture, I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing Lang traded.

This is one of those times that I'm glad Kenny held pat. ESPECIALLY with the reports that Holmgren wanted Kronwall.

There's been talk of requiring visors in the NHL for awhile, but there's no rule about making anything mandatory... yet... The AHL, however has implemented mandatory visors, and many players believe it's only a matter of time before this rule is seen in the NHL. My guess, if it ever is implemented, it'll be grandfathered in like helmets were in the late 70's. *edit* grammar.

Honestly, guys, the only time that placing first in the conference/division did ANYTHING for us was '02. In 97 & 98, we came in 3rd in the conference (though we did win the division), and look how well we made out. I'm 100% a-ok with us not taking the Conference in the regular season. That's less pressure on us. Even being a top seed doesn't always help out. Remember, last year all 4 first round series in the West were upsets.

I wouldn't be surprised too if Philly nixed the possibility of a deal with the Habs. They are an Eastern Conference team, and teams usually don't like trading intra-conference for big deals like this.

There's an interesting tidbit in that article posted, too... Sounds like what Kenny has to give would depend on what they think they'll get out of Floppa. If he's truly only a renter, he's not going to give away the farm. And BTW, I'm calling it now. If this deal happens, the first time that Forsberg & Filppula play on the same line, it will be dubbed the "Flip-Flop" line.

If I heard right, I think they said that Joey was going to get the nod tomorrow. Don't quote me on that though... And there's NO WAY you can seriously give Howard the nickname Opie. Seriously, if ANYONE on the team needs that nickname, it's Ozzie.

That would be the first one. Philly fans (of pretty much all their teams) are pretty bad. Cheering injured players (When Michael Irvin went down against the Ealges), shooting a Flare Gun across the field, pelting sportscasters & players with snowballs... Not exactly the model fan behavior from the City of Brotherly Love... Heck, they even booed Santa Claus one year...

Guys, look back and see just how special that night was where we retired Stevie's jersey. Those of you who were lucky enough to be there ALL have said it is something that they will never forget, and that it has impacted their lives immensely. Fans will be very appreciative to see Lidstrom's #5 go up to the rafters, for sure, but it will be in NO WAY comparable to how special Stevie's night was. (Not to say that Lidstrom isn't deserving of it, because he DAMN SURE is). But Lidstrom hasn't been the face, heart, and soul of the Detroit Red Wings for almost a quarter of a century. But to go around and say that guys like Shanny, and Feds, and Ozzie, and Draper deserve to have their jerseys retired? You're only doing one thing. You're cheapening the memories given to us by the 6 guys who have their #'s up there right now. You're saying "Yeah, what they did was special way back then, but now it only takes a few years on a good team to get your number up there". I, for one, would rather keep it the way it is, and only retire the jerseys of players who have made a profound impact on this team, day in and day out, for their entire career. Darren Pang wasn't kidding when he said that retiring Stevie's jersey was the "Highest recognition the Red Wings can bestow on a player". Do we really want to say that someone like Chelios is as deserving of that honor for his few seasons with the Wings?

Fair enough. That could have been how he meant to say, however, that wasn't quite the impression that was left in many fans minds when the quote came out.
-
Well, he didn't do a whole lot to win over fans when he compared leaving the Wings to defecting from the Soviet Union...
-
Very sad to see, indeed.

Sucks that we lost, but JT Schmid's was cool. Great to meet everyone! Rossco, stay safe on the rest of the travels! Best reverse your curse quick man! We need a few more points out of this trip!!!

We'll be in section 207, row 10. Look for the Red Wings Trucker Hat, and that's me.

I'm gonna go with S.D. and N.O., with S.D. picking up the Lombardi trophy. The NFC is more evenly matched all around than the AFC. But the AFC's best are WAY better than the NFC's best. Should be a fun few weeks! *edit* Double post.
-
Should be there, provided I can get coverage from work for the following day. *crosses fingers*
-
Hell yeah, I'll be there! Can't wait!

Link coming soon... Just listed on the Breaking News alert at the top of Cnn.com. Puckett died after surgery today, after suffering a major stroke. Very sad to see. Godspeed to him and his family. *edit* Link as promised.

They said that about the Heat last year... And the Lakers before that... Back to the business at hand... Everybody loves the Homestar Runner

A perfect 3-0 in NBA Finals appearances... (And the Mavs, Wizards, Jazz, Cavs, Nets, Pacers, Hawks, and Heat all beg to differ when you say nothing can beat the Pistons...)

More fake > less real... Look closely... That's NOT an Apple iPod Shuffle... That's a blatant rip-off... (Here's the real deal, in comparison...)
