One final reminder, before this thread is toast. Politics is a no-go for LGW. Further posts with political issues can and will be edited or deleted without advance notice, and you could find yourself with a sit on the bench as a result.

HERETIC!!! My main concern with Franzen is not necessarily his choice of shots/intended targets. It's more a threefold case of his work ethic (or lack thereof), his hesitance to use his size when working for the puck, and his incredible streakiness. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt on the work ethic and reluctance to use his size, those are still things that are perceived problems of his. And we all know that in most instances, perception is reality. That said, Franzen has shown the ability to be an absolute lights-out force on the ice (The Colorado series in '08 is a testament to that). If only he could show a little consistency... And I think Sammy will essentially help balance out the loss of Hudler. Sammy will probably be better on the point on the PP than Rex was, but has more questions regarding injuries.

I think you're right, but can't find much to back it up at this point. I seem to recall seeing something a few years back that says that a player who waives his NTC/NMC effectively voids the clause. However, I did find this snippet on CapGeek... If a player still holds the NTC/NMC with the new club, then why would he need a promise from the new team that they will honor the clause? I could be reading it wrong, but I think that goes to show that the clause is considered void, once the player agrees to a trade.

Wouldn't have mattered. The proposed realignment still had Detroit in the same conference as the Jackets.

Kuklas' Korner Red Wings blogger George Malik provides some valuable insight to Wings fans. For the most part, I think everyone here seems to get the point. But I'm waiting for someone to see the trade return, and get pissed because Kenny "sat on his ass/hands" and/or "didn't offer enough"... And Kenny even confirms it, via Helene St. James...

I suppose it would depend on what Holland's "Hell of an offer" was. But regardless of what the offer was, the fact that it was completely ignored by Howson pretty much told us that we didn't have a chance at getting him.

<---- I updated my avatar and signature earlier this morning in rememberance, and I'm going to keep it up for awhile. Very sad to see news like this. You know that each and every victim has their own story, but it makes it all so much harder when you have a chance to see how someone with such promise & potential is snuffed out by a monster taking human form. A friend of mine put words to this better than I ever could have...

5 year extension, and they were less than a day away from an Arbitration hearing. Good re-signing by the Blues.

I haven't seen any reports that Nashville is declining the offer sheet. Though, the way it always seems to work out for me, they probably declined the sheet 30 seconds ago, and it's just now breaking on Twitter... *goes to search twitter, just to be sure*

I'm with you, V16. If a GM wants to handcuff his team for a decade or more for one or two big splash signings, then he should be free to do so. The GM's shouldn't have to rely on the NHL to save themselves from their own stupidity.

I'm not sure the league has cause to invalidate the contract, though. It's heavily frontloaded, of course, but given the precedent of previous heavily front loaded contracts (including massive signing bonuses of Parise & Suter), I don't think the league has a leg to stand on in that regard. If Pronger retires, the Flyers are still on the hook for his salary, since it was a multi-year 35+ contract. But it puts them in an interesting position with the new CBA. Will they be able to keep him buried on LTIR at no penalty, or will the new CBA prevent that? Do they buy him out if an amnesty buyout period is offered?
