It's been widely reported that Detroit was in the mix on a trade for Weber. Can't exactly say that Holland didn't try going after Weber. Maybe he didn't submit an offer sheet (which isn't Holland/Red Wings' style anyway), but that doesn't mean he sat back and did nothing to try and acquire him...

No, they can't do that either. There's no other way around it. There's only 2 possible outcomes from here on out. Nashville matches and Weber plays for the Preds, or they don't and he's a Flyer.

If Nashville matches the offer sheet, they are not allowed to trade Weber for 1 year. So, while they could end up trading him to a division rival of Philly, it wouldn't happen until 2013-14 at the earliest. Also, since Weber has already signed the offer sheet, he cannot field offers from any other team. He will either play in Philly or Nashville next season, period.

True, but he didn't actually get the trade done, so therefore he must be a terrible GM who sits on his ass-and-or-hands, simply because he couldn't convince the Preds to trade their franchise defenseman to their greatest rival who just happens to be in the same division*. Gosh, I mean, you can get it done in NHL '12, so what the hell is the holdup here, Kenny? You get a submarine if you insult Matt? Hell, I'm a mod here and even I didn't know that... *for more information on this subject, please search "Rick Nash".

They can deny the contract, though I'm not sure that there's much room for them to do so. Since the contract doesn't carry Weber past his 40th birthday, it doesn't fall under the "Kovalchuk" clause. I suppose they could see the whole contract as some kind of attempt to massively circumvent the cap, but since the huge signing bonuses count against the cap, I don't think they'd be able to justify that.

With cap space to clear, do Flyers become a Wings trade partner?
Jedi replied to Yzerfan1999's topic in General
That's a very interesting question. I would imagine that he would go back to being an RFA, with the Predators still holding his rights. -

Yes, he's a 35+ contract, so they're on the hook for the cap hit if he were to retire. I'm not sure what the stipulation on staying on LTIR is, but there's got to be something the NHL can do to ensure that the Flyers don't use the LTIR relief as a way of circumventing the 35+ contract retirement clause. That said, if any kind of amnesty buyout is agreed upon with the new CBA, I'd expect the Flyers to buy out Pronger for sure. -

Still out from post-concussion, from the reports I've read. I think they're using the cap relief from his LTIR status in the Weber signing. -
Wow. $14m a year for the first 4 years?

Huh. Didn't know that the holdup with signing Doan was Holland sitting on his ass. I coulda sworn that all the reports were saying that Doan was still waiting on the ownership situation in Phoenix and that there was no timetable for a decision and that Semin wasn't going to sign until Doan signed and that both Semin and Doan were looking for more than 1 year contracts. Silly me. Thinking all those reports that practically everyone was talking about might have even a shred of truth to them. Get on it, Kenny!

Signed Red Wings re-sign Quincey: 2-years, $7.55m total, $3.775/yr

That's my sincere hope. But with it public that Kenny was pursuing Nash, he's probably pursuing Ryan too, as well as waiting on Doan, it seems that forwards are more of Holland's priority at the moment. -

A full training camp with this system will help quite a bit. I think Q will be a better defenseman this year than he was last year for us. -

A little clarification on Q's salary next year, and the year after, from Dreger... -

2 years, per Ansar Khan. Still no financial details yet. -

Because I'm lazy (and already in the middle of playing another game), I went back in and YouTube'd the new endings. I'm MUCH more impressed with the endings now. They leave you with a much better sense of fulfillment and certainty with whichever choice you make at the end.

If Shane Doan is worth $7.5m/year, Parise and Suter's agents should be fired, and they should tear up their contracts ASAP.
