Alas, I don't have THAT MUCH power. All I did was tag team with vladdy16. V16's + got it back to neutral, and mine put it as +1 as intended.

For the record, Quincey is not injured. Looks like Babs is just doing some rotation to give guys a quick break before the playoffs start. https://twitter.com/#!/AnsarKhanMLive/status/185749058797834240

Jimmy is in net tonight. Nyquist is in the lineup. https://twitter.com/#!/DetroitRedWings/status/185744126615093248 https://twitter.com/#!/AnsarKhanMLive/status/185744815697301506 *edit* Derp. Check earlier posts, dummy (talking to myself). That's so 46 seconds ago... At least Hockeytown0001 made the GDT today. I think we're 0-2 when I start the thread...

The Red Wings roll into Nationwide Arena riding a 2 game winning streak, while Columbus has lost 2 in a row, and 7 of their last 10. Detroit currently holds the 4th seed in the Western Conference with 97 points, 1 point ahead of idle Nasvhille, with 1 game in hand over the Predators. Columbus is currently dead last in the entire league at 55 points, and they hold a 48.2% chance of the 1st pick in the Draft Lottery, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. Detroit clinched a playoff spot with their most recent win, a 7-2 skills contest over the same Blue Jackets on Monday March 26th. It is the 21st straight trip to the playoffs for the Red Wings, which means that playoff streak is now old enough to buy an alcoholic beverage. Cheers! :beerbuddy: A few injury & lineup updates for tonight's game, courtesy of MLive's Ansar Khan... For your viewing pleasure, highlights from the last time the Wings visited Nationwide Arena, Feb 28th 2012. And finally, for this day in Red Wings History. March 28th, 1950, Gordie Howe suffered a skull fracture when he’s accidentally checked into the boards during Game 1 of the semifinal series with Toronto at Olympia Stadium.

Cleary is signed through next season, so no chance of not offering a contract at the end of this year.

I'm actually indifferent to Babs' decision. On the one hand, it'd be good for Jimmy to get back against a team that's not going to go soft on him. But on the other hand since they aren't going to go soft on him, there's always a chance they might try to take a run on him and further aggrivate the injury, especially since there's a good chance that Nashville will be our 1st round opponent. In the end, Jimmy will probably give us our best chance at getting 2 points. But the risk of long-term damage to the team if Jimmy gets hurt (as opposed to Conkblock, if he played) is greater too. I'll defer to Babcock's judgement on this one, though. After all, the man's won a Stanley Cup, and about the best I've done is win a Guitar Hero tournament at work...

From what I read about his postgame comments, Babcock felt the same. Ken & Mickey have echoed comments like that in big blowout games. A team that's up by 5 or 6 goals is not going to keep the same focus as a team that's playing in a 0-0 tie, or protecting a 1 goal lead. While the last 2 games have helped us in the standings, and helped restore a little confidence in this team, there is still work to be done. Let's see how we play on the road tomorrow, then a real test for this team with Nashville in town on Friday.

...aaaand bringing this thread back on topic (*hint, hint*). It's Dan O'Halloran. Surely no one is surprised by this point?

Oh sure. I'll bet if you ask the fans at the United Center why they chant "Detroit Sucks", almost all of them will tell you "It's out of respect."

Great read. Thanks for posting! I've said the same thing myself for years now.

It was actually 8 games, but I can understand your point. No doubt Keith's elbow did more damage than Sutton's hit. But comparing the two side by side leaves out the fact that Sutton has run afoul of the NHL Discipline crew throughout his career. Sutton got his latest suspension largely due to his repeat offender status (it was the 8th fine-or-suspension of his career). The official Shanaban ruling was that it was for charging, leaving his feet and (arguably) targeting Ponikarovsky's head on the hit. Duncan Keith is not a repeat offender, so it figures that any suspension he gets will be less than a guy who gets benched for 8 games a little over a month after getting benched for 5... To be fair, the "phone only meeting" tweet is pure speculation on McKenzie's part. As there's no official word about any hearing at all yet, any guesses as to how long a suspension Keith will get are just that... Guesses... As to the OP's point about the poster from HFBoards, yes that was a very rational view about the state of the rivalries between Chicago and Detroit, and Chicago and Vancouver. That said, one good post/poster does not indicate the overall view of their fansbase. And even if their fanbase views the Canucks rivalry as more intense and more hateful, it still doesn't change the vitriol that most Hawks fans spout against the Red Wings.
