Gustav Nyquist-- Hockey's Future Prospect of the Month
Barrie replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Another solid mid-level prospect find by Kenny and company? -
Ozzie's a great backup. I don't see any reason to get another one.
-
Decent list, I can live with the results. Arguments can be made for both Lidstrom and Brodeur as #1.

Wow I wasn't expecting Carson to make a top 10 list of favorite Wings!

As a Canadian, all I can say is "Too funny!" Also I'm wondering, what was the 20% of the population doing during the game? What else was there to do that Sunday? The entire country shut down! Maybe the 20% was working and couldn't get to a TV? I guess I shouldn't talk, I didn't watch the first USA-Canada game, I was at the movies. At least I was getting text messages.

My favorite one is: Chris Chelios is so old ..... he thought he was signing to the Atlanta Flames As a Cheli fan, I'm proud of the guy, I hope he plays until he's 50.

What's the reason behind playing this song in Chicago after goals? Is there a Chicago connection or something?

Do you guy watch Family Guy? "This is a song written by a *** guy"

Yea I think so. I'll go on record saying Burke isn't going to turn the Leafs around. Last week at the deadline he said he doesn't want to take 5 years to make the Leafs a winner. Without a franchise player, or a 1st round pick for 2 years, there's no chance! He also went on to say it didn't take Anaheim 5 years. I guess he forgets Getzlaf and Perry were already drafted. All he did was trade for Pronger.

Ummm look at Sammy's career stats, playing in Detroit made his career, Cleary too.

Haha, a friend who's a Leaf fan said Burke is interested in adding Kesler to the Leafs next year. I guess after seeing Burke throw away two 1st round picks on Kessel, I wouldn't put it past him to waste more 1st rounders on Kesler.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again, someone is going to die before they take things like hits to the head serious.

Too funny, I heard this a few hours ago.

I was a Booter fan too. He was the most entertaining Griffin when he was there. Funny story, I went to a Bulldogs-Griffins game in 2004-05 season, in Hamilton. During warm ups, I pointed out Bootland to a friend, who's a Leaf fan, and told him, "Watch Bootland, that guy always is always doing something". Within the first couple minutes of the game, Bootland got a double minor. While he was skating to the penalty box my friend said, "Your right, that didn't take long". Agreed, I yelled "Yes!" when I first heard Primeau, and Coffey, was traded for Shanahan. I still lol when I think about Primeau getting into a fight with Probert at a practice one time.

How many players from Team USA would have made Team Canada?
Barrie replied to GONGSHOW HOCKEY's topic in General
Right, it was a players thing for me, not the country. Plus it's only a game and it didn't have anything to do with politics or way of life, which I'm a huge supporter of, Canadian and American. Actually I enjoyed watching the tournament stress free, not really leaning one way or the other. It was outstanding hockey! 2009 was an enjoyable but stressful sports year for me. The Red Wings and Roughriders had leads in their finals, and both lost! I don't think I've even been so stressed out watching sports than I did watching the Grey Cup and seeing Montreal comeback... Add to that, the Tigers had a huge lead in the Central Division, but couldn't hold the Twins back, blowing an 8 game lead. That one game playoffs between the Tigers-Twins was unbearable... Michigan State lost in March Madness too... I said all that to say again I enjoyed watching the Olympics hockey stress free. I couldn't back those players, because I never have and don't really like them. All my sports passion backs Detroit and Saskatchewan, it hit it's peak in 2009, and I needed a break. -
It's too difficult for me to pick 10 and try and rank them, so here's my top 4 in order: 1. Yzerman 2. McCarty 3. Shanahan 4. Lindsay My other favorites include (in no order): Holmstrom, Maltby, Draper, Osgood, Chelios, Lapointe, Franzen, Zetterberg, Helm, Howe, and Leswick. I was born in 1976, so never saw Lindsay, Howe, and Leswick play, but would have been a big fan of the 3 of them for sure!

I've been a Detroit fan since the mid-80's, so I think differently than fellow Canadians when it comes to sports. Other than seeing the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Toronto and Hamilton, I don't go to Toronto for sporting events, I drive to Detroit for Red Wings and Tigers games. I still don't understand the "It's our game" comments. My response is "So?". Canada still has to earn the victories, it's not a God given right. Personally, as a Canadian and a Hockey fan, I think it's great Hockey is so excepted world wide, and I think the rest of the country should feel the same way. Be proud, not "It's our game". Every country that plays hockey has helped the development and greatness of the game. Plus us Detroit fans see how important Americans, Europeans, and Russians have been to the success of our organization, along with Canadians. -

A Canadian agreeing with your post. I've never understood the whole, "It's our game" argument in Canada. Is it insecurity or arrogance by Canadians? I don't understand it. Personally I think Canadians should be proud a game they improved is so widely accepted and enjoyed around the world. I say improved, because I'm sure some form of hockey came from Europe and was improved in Canada and the Northern USA. Similar to how Americans and Canadians improved Cricket into Baseball. -
I'm a Business Administration Marketing Graduate, and I was thinking about this today... If the NHL still thinks they can gain fans in the USA, they may have a great opportunity here to market their US born players to Americans. This isn't an anti-Crosby comment, as much as I don't like the guy, but I think maybe it would be wise if they took attention away from Crosby and put it towards guys like Miller, Parise, Kane, Stastny, Ryan, etc.. Two reasons why the Southern Markets have failed, is the lack of snow in those cities and lack of American talent. Think of all the excellent young American talent in the NHL now, plus the American Juniors are Champions. These are guys Americans can back and follow. Also, the Crosby thing, even more so now, he's probably not very popular in the USA right now. Again, not an anti-Crosby rant, but I'm just seeing a excellent opportunity here for the NHL to market their product to Americans. Edit: ooops to the typo in the title

Good one! -
I'd be ok without Bertuzzi next year, especially if Hudler's back.

Right, I've met friends in Detroit for games, and one guy parks on the street for free. I think he's nuts!!

Howard, no question!
