Bingo!

Such a brave boy behind his keyboard. It's jokes that anyone would try and trash talk Red Wings fans. Chicago hasn't won a thing in decades.
-
Don't even start, 1961 says it all.
-
Oh please, it was a shootout that decided the game. By the way, the Wings are in 8th even after all the injuries.
-
I don't care which side your on, winner or loser, but what a horrible way to end one of the best games I've seen in years. Ties are 10X better than the shoot out, it builds anticipation for the playoffs. Another reason why Bettman sucks! I'm glad when the games really matter, a gimmick won't decided the result. Anyway, that's the end of my rant.

My Mom's side of the family is from Windsor, so I grew up going to Tigers and Red Wings games, despite living outside Toronto for most of my life. I've been an all Detroit fan since the mid-80's.
-
Just a thought, with Detroit and Buffalo as boarder cities, I wonder how they'd look with some rights to Ontario? Say Detroit has everything from London Ontario to Windsor Ontario to draw from as well as Michigan. Buffalo can have Ontario that's East of Hamilton, along with Western New York.

Take is easy! Back in the original 6 Montreal and Toronto signed a lot of local talent. Montreal was a team of French Canadians, where Toronto had many English speaking players from Ontario, making the rivalry that much better. The Wings had a lot of their players come from the Canadian Prairies. It's not that far off an idea.

I find it difficult to criticize a team that's back to back Western Conference Champions and 2008 Stanley Cup Champions. Realistically how much better would we be? Lang and Bertuzzi helped us advance to the 2007 Western Conference Finals, which gave guys like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, etc. the experience they needed to help win the 2008 Stanley Cup.

I won't be against CBC letting Cherry go, or Don retiring. I don't mind "Grapes" pro Canada agenda most of the time, but he just seems to be 30-40 year behind the rest of society.
-
Personally I think the only reason why Canadians take this tournament so serious is due to the fact that a Canadian team hasn't won a Stanley Cup since 1993. As a Canadian Red Wings fan, because of our success in Detroit, the World Jr.s means nothing to me, I've seen championships.

Can't win 'em all Don, can't win 'em all.

Who here is a Spitfires fan? I'm looking forward to Campbell between the pipes next year. I thought he should have been the USA's player of the game.
-
From one Canadian to another, really? Edit: Don't be a dick, give the USA their due, they played an excellent game.

I'd rather the league go back to the 1998-99 point system, every game is 2 points ONLY. 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. I never had problems with ties... They'll never go back to that, so I'd be in favor of 3 point games all the time. Any comparison between eras have already been ruined since 1999-00 awarding overtime loses as 1 point, so I have no problems with every game being 3 points. Edit: If the NHL wants to continue to give out 1 point for a OT or SO loss, than I think this point system would give truer Conference Standings: -3 points for a Regulation Win -2 points for a OT or SO Win -1 point for a OT or SO Loss -0 points for a Regulation Loss

Who here voted Thornton? Come on! The guy hasn't won a thing. Must have been one of our Shark fan friends. I don't think you can go wrong with either Brodeur or Lidstrom as #1. Their accomplishments and hardware is about equal.

I agree, I don't think Phanuef was meaning to hit him that hard. From what I saw, I think Phanuef was only trying to hold on to Kopitar and they'd hit the boards together. Unfortunately Kopitar lost his footing making it look like a horrible hit. I do however, agree with the 5 + 10, and would be ok with a suspension. The only way to avoid this is No Touch Icing, which I'm all for.

The hit by a bus comment made me laugh. Probably only Canadian Red Wings fans feel the way I do about the roster. Half of the roster we've seen more than once in the playoffs, and some of them have taken a run at and/or butt ended our star players. There's just to much bad blood there to back them for only a two week tournament, that's my opinion anyway. I'm not sure about 3 alternates in 2006.
-
Agreed, and I'm Canadian. I'm going to have a very difficult time warming up to this team. I'll probably just follow along with no real rooting interest since it's just a two week tournament. I found in 2006, and I'll probably feel the same way in 2010, I had a hard time cheering against Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Kronwall, etc.. I can't argue Stevie's picks, but the thing I notice is the lack of leadership and those awe type players like Sakic, Lemieux, and Yzerman. All the best Canadian talent right now is young, so it's not Stevie's fault. Looking at all the rosters, Russia is my pick for the Gold, Sweden Silver, and Canada Bronze.
-
No arguments of the rosters, but Team Canada (I'm Canadian) is full of players I don't like and have cheered against for years :puke:. I kind of feel offended that I'm being forced to cheer for guys like Crosby, Iginla, Getzlaf, Perry, Nash, Thornton, Phaneuf, Pronger, Fleury, etc.. I don't think I'll have much interest in Olympics Men's Hockey this time.

I remember hearing Burke's news conference live, my jaw dropped. The series was only tied 2-2. Why poke the bear? Why wake a sleeping giant? Oh well, we finished them off quick after that.

To each their own. Roy just seemed to be to much of a story sometimes. When he was off his game, he was really off his game, couldn't just let things go, and could really embarrass himself and his team. Remember him calling Osgood out to fight in 1998 too? Despite getting in more blows, Ozzie came out ahead. I think Roy had to much fire.
-
I'm a homer, I voted Yzerman.
-
I would take Brodeur without thinking about it to hard. As great as Roy was, he was unable to keep his emotions in check all the time. As Wings fans, he played excellent against us, but we've also saw him at his worst. His, "Let's Play" speech in the 1997 WCF and 7-0 loss in 2002 stand out to me. Brodeur has the level headed attitude I like in big games. I'm not sure about Hasek, because he only made it to two finals as a starter. I know he didn't always play on the best team, but also I think about his wandering when pucks are behind the net. It was too difficult on the nerves watching him leave the crease.
