OZZIE, OZZIE, OZZIE!

Crossing my fingers for an Ozzie SHO!

I agree with clutchngrab, Conk will be the starter. The organization will give themselves the best chance at a 5th Championship in 12 years. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I'll be too disappointed or bummed out if we don't repeat. The last team to advance past the first round after winning the Stanley Cup was the 2002 Colorado Avs. We've had two long playoff runs, so I think the thing that'll be against us in the playoffs is fatigue more so than Goaltending. Odds are against us, but we'll see. Also, if we don't repeat, it's not like it'll be our last chance at a Championship. We're loaded for 10 years.

I'm with you man. Parity and Salary Caps suck!
-
I feel bad for Ozzie.
-
Ummm I guess you haven't noticed, yesterday The WORLD Baseball Classic started.
-
Maybe you haven't notice, but Letterman is a comedy. He makes fun of everybody.
-
Agreed. It doesn't help that we had to play back to back nights in two different cities on back to back weekends!
-
I think fans at the Joe should start chanting MVP... MVP... MVP when Pavel touches the puck. Screw Ovechkin!
-
Agreed. If players try and draw hits from behind that's pretty stupid.
-
I watched the game online with the Sharks announcers, here's my take on the hit... A 2 minute penalty was fine. Cleary hit Thornton from behind, but he lead with his shoulder. Had Dan cross checked him from behind, then yes it should have been 5 minutes. However I wonder if Thornton, knowing Cleary was coming, was trying to take one for the team and draw a 5 minute boarding penalty . Thornton's a big guy, he could have braced himself for the hit or given a shoulder to Cleary.

It doesn't matter who's in net, we need to score more than 2 goals.

They're professional athletes, they'll get off.

Yes the greatest Red Wings team of all-time was 1951-52. Edit: And I think the 2007-08 would be to much for 2001-02 to handle in a best of 7 series. Last year's squad was to quick for their opponents.

Yea I called the 2008 NHL Awards, "The Red Wings Show".
-
If we were honoring numbers like the Maple Leafs, then I'd say sure! You can add 30, 14, and 91 too. The Wings retire numbers, so I'm ok with 5, and possibly 40 and 13 only.

I think the 2008 Red Wings is the best of our 4 recent Championships. Best team ever, my vote goes to the 1976-1979 Montreal Canadiens.

Right, I was watching Rogers Sportsnet at 10:00 last night to see the Wings highlights. It was about 10:15 when they finally showed them. Sportsnet had to do post game recaps of the Leafs and Sens , two teams that aren't even going to make the playoffs.

That would be a great gig for DMac if he went into the broadcast booth!

I'd take Fedorov over Datsyuk, without having to think about it for to long. 3-5 years from now, I maybe thinking differently, but for now, Fedorov.

It's actually more entertaining for me when Canada doesn't win, it makes for great tv and sports talk radio.

Funny you should mention that. I found the 2006 Olympics hard to follow. Draper if I remember correctly was the only Red Wing on team Canada, compared to Yzerman and Shanahan in 1998 and 2002. Other than the fact I'm Canadian, in 2006 I really didn't have a reason to cheer or follow team Canada. There was to many players on team Canada in 2006 that I really didn't like because they were on teams that were Red Wings rivals. I also didn't like cheering against Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Kronwall, Holmstrom, Sammy, Lang, etc.. As soon as the 2006 games started, I honestly couldn't wait until it was over and we were able to get back to Red Wings hockey. It will probably be the same in 2010. I really don't like Crosby, Thornton, Getzlaf, and Price. Brodeur is ok and so is Green, but I'll find it hard to cheer against our guys. I'll be a wuss and probably stay neutral. I guess you can say when it comes to Hockey I'm Detroit Red Wings all the way.

I think due to size alone I'd keep Franzen. Plus if Hudler signs elsewhere, we get draft picks since he's a RFA. If Franzen signs with another team, we get nothing back, UFA. I'm all for keeping Franzen!

Maybe the league will clue in and get rid of about 4-6 franchises. Funny they thought adding US markets would get them a National TV Contract, instead it's the opposite.

why can't the NHL have a salary cap like baseball?
Barrie replied to FLWINGSFAN4013's topic in General
Yea I think there should be something where teams can go over the cap if they are re-signing their own players. I'd also be for a luxury tax, even if it's 100%. I think the hard cap is a bad idea. Parity sucks!
