I hope Shanny signs somewhere, so he can come back to The Joe and get a well deserved standing ovation from Wings fans. It’s a shame the Rangers never played in Detroit the last two seasons.

"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents
Barrie replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
If there's someone on the team that should be making more than Lidstrom it's Zetterberg. -
I'm ok with the Wings very high standards for retiring numbers, I'm ok with #6 coming down since Aurie isn't a Hall of Famer, I'm ok with #91 not joining Abel, Lindsay, Delvecchio, Howe, Sawchuk, and Yzerman, and I'm ok with Lidstrom being the only other player to have his number retired from our 1995 to 2008+ Dynasty. If #91 is added, that opens a debate for #14, #30, #33, etc, and I don't think the Organization wants that. Plus it would start debates for Ullman and Kelly. You have to think Zetterberg and Datsyuk will be up there someday too. If everyone I mentioned is added to the rafters, and Aurie is put back up, then there would be 16 retired numbers in the next 15 years. I don't want the Wings to be like the Canadiens or Leafs when retiring or honoring numbers. I agree with an earlier comment, if you need to think about it or make an argument, then the number shouldn't be up there. Abel, Lindsay, Delvecchio, Howe, Sawchuk, Yzerman, and Lidstrom are no doubters, everyone else is a debate.

I'll never forget that game. The night before the Avs eliminated the Wings in the playoffs. I heard about it from some people I knew who were Leafs fans. They were really quiet the day after that game, and were really p.o.ed at me I gave them a hard time about 6 shots on net. If I remember correctly, it also eliminated the Leafs from the Playoffs. If you give it you gotta take it.

If Conkin continues to do that, I bet Lidstrom, Draper, and/or Holland probably tells him to "Cool it, that's not the Red Wings style."

You can be the first. Get 'er started! Seriously, all the best to Brian. Back injuries are scary.

Here's my thoughts on last night's game. 1) I can't believe all the analysis about the first game of the season. I hope people aren't freaking out after the first of 82 games. 2) We hit two posts and a cross bar before Toronto's PP Goal. If one of those 3 went in, it would have been a different story. 3) We turned the puck over because we were behind and had to take chances to score. Over all it wasn't the way we're used to seeing our Stanley Cup Champions play, but with 82 games in the regular season, we'll have a bad game every now and then. If we play poorly in our first 10-20 games, then it's time to be worried.
-
Just tell them they can have the wins in October, we'll take them in May and June.

We hit the post and the cross bar in the first period before Toronto's PP Goal. If one of those went in, the game would have been different. It's tough to analyze the first game. The Wings looked sloppy, but it was due to the fact we were behind and needed to take chances. Plus Toskala I thought played very well and it just wasn't our night. No worries here, 1 down, 81 to go.

I agree. People should earn the right to have their name on the back of a jersey. Last week I saw someone with their name and #19 on the back. To each their own, but that's not right.

I've worn #19 everytime I've been to The Joe, and I ain't stopping now.

5-1 Wings. Toronto will be lucky to get 18 shots on net.

Hey Matt, congrats on the radio interview! Very cool man!

Same, I don't understand why they would put the games in there that the Red Wings lost, unless they're trying to market the set to Pittsburgh fans too. I have all the 2008 Stanley Cup victories taped, as well as the WFC wins, and clinching games in the first two rounds, so I'm good. I have all the same wins from 2002. I didn't go nuts with taping games from 1997 and 1998, I only have a few. I've been regretting it since.

Thanks to lgw.com, Matt, and JayUp88, I'm going to the game. I'm leaving in less than and hour.

Since I live outside Toronto, I would hate it if Yzerman became the Leafs GM. I would wish him all the best and have no hard feelings, but if things go bad, I don't want to hear the Toronto media talk badly about him.

Very cool!! Thanks! I guess I'm going to be at The Joe on Sunday. Ok admit it, how many of you put Hossa? I had to catch myself, good thing I re-read the question and noticed "Regular Season Game"

After winning the Stanley Cup, I was in no rush to get the 08-09 season started . Seeing the boys load up the bus for training camp, I can't wait to see them on the ice again.
-
It has to be an old-timers game or something like that.
-
Funny how some national media criticized Hossa for not grabbing the best contract he could get, when the national media are the first to get on the players for being overpaid. I guess they can't win either way.
-
Call me crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Lions win 8 games this year.

The Tigers are top 5 in payroll this season.

What makes the Red Wing's organization worth taking less money
Barrie replied to RedWingsLaw's topic in General
I think Holmstrom said it best in a post game interview after the Wings won the Cup in 2002 about the Organization, "It's first class all the way". -
Like most responses, Yzerman was the guy that drew me in. My first sport/team love was Baseball the 1984 Tigers, I was 7 years old. By the late 1980's I was hearing about the Red Wings, their two straight Conference Finals appearances, and some guy wearing #19. By the 1991-92 season I was hooked on the Detroit Red Wings and Steve Yzerman.
