    Best Sports Cities

Which drives me crazy when the media outside Detroit has to make a big deal when there's some empty seats at The Joe. They don't seem to notice the number of other teams in the same city/state playing at the same time. Don't forget the Pistons. They pull in 20K every game too.

    Best Sports Cities

The best sports towns in North America are New York, Boston, and Detroit. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think there's a debate about it.

Lecavalier re-signs 11 years with TB

I agree. Only a very very very small percentage of society could put up with their schedules. Plus they are under huge pressure to perform every game.

    Wings who've won all 4 Cups(97, 98, 02, 08)

Maybe this person wasn't sure who've won all 4 Cups and was asking a simple question?

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD

Living close to Toronto, I always get things a few days after those of you in Metro Detroit. I got my copy today, Saturday, and just finished watching it. I don't know if it's because I just got it, but I think this could be my favorite of the four Championship DVD's. I really enjoyed the section they had about McCarty, and every DVD they seem to have moreoff ice stuff i.e. in the locker room, footage of Rafalski going back to the rink where he started playing hockey, seeing the guys on the plane after winning the cup, etc. The Bonus features were outstanding. A lot of times I find bonus material is either hit or miss. The piece on Lebda, the Legends dinner, and Kronwall's biggest hits were every entertaining. The mic'ed up practice before one of the games in Pittsburgh was probably my favorite part of the DVD hilarious!! I was laughing the entire time. Maltby's da man!!

    The most annoying NHL teams

For me it's hard to say I find a team annoying or hate them, while the Wings are the defending Stanley Cup Champions. My dislike for the Avs ended after 2002. I stoped hating the Flames after 2007, and since we have the Cup, I don't have hard feelings for Edmonton and Anaheim anymore. The next time we lose in the playoffs, those feelings will come back.

    History Repeats

Excellent post eva. I don't think Aurie's #6 should be in the rafters because he isn't in the Hall of Fame. No disrespect to Aurie, but having him up with Stevie, Howe, Lindsay, Delvecchio, Abel, and Sawchuck could lower the bar. A retired #6 would open the door to debates about all the players you mentioned in the 1st criteria, and with a team's history as old as the Red Wings, available numbers would be limited. I'm the first person who thinks the Yankees and Canadiens, despite all their championships, have retired to many numbers. We don't want the same thing to happen here. Having #6 taken down, but still out of circulation, was the correct thing for Ilitch to do.

    Why Pens fans hate Hossa

All I have to say is, this is Sports and Business, players come and go all the time. I can understand why Pittsburgh fans are upset Hossa signed with the Wings for one year. But what can they do but suck it up, deal with it, and move on. Besides with the salaries Crosby and Malkin have, Pittsburgh needs to worry about the cap. Adding Hossa to the total maybe to much for them. In the long run, it probably worked out better for the organization anyway.

    Marian Hossa a Red Wing, 1yr, $7.45m

Wow!! I can't believe Hossa, at this point in his career, agreed to a one year deal. I guess we're going for the Cup again next year.

    Anyone else dying with excitment?

I agree, we're loaded with talent. Signing someone will only block a young player ready to play in the NHL. I'm happy if we stick with who we have and work on long term contracts for Zetterberg and Franzen.

    2008 Stanley Cup Gear Checklist.

I'm sure like most of you, I have a collection of 1997, 1998, and 2002 Stanley Cup gear. Here's a list of 2008 Stanley Cup things I MUST buy to keep up my Championship collection. 1) The Championship DVD 2) The Commerative Sports Illustrated Stanley Cup Championship Issue, along either one of the Free Press or the Detroit News issues 3) A replica of the Championship Banner hung at the Joe 4) The Locker room Cap worn during the celebration 5) The team photo on the ice with the Cup Those 5 items I have for all the previous Cups, so I MUST get the 2008's as well. I have some other stuff, but it's only one or two years, so it's not as important. How about the rest of you, what's on your MUST HAVE list?

Who were on the ice for the last second?

I have all the cup clinching games on either VHS or DVD, I should check it out. Here's what I know off hand. 2002, Chelios was one of the D on the ice. 1997, Yzerman and Shanahan were on.

    Ducks

True, good point. Toronto from the sounds of it wants to get the best guy possible, many of us here don't think Burke is the best guy out there.

    Ducks

I don't understand why the Leafs want Burke so badly. He is overrated!

    2008 Stanley Cup Gear Checklist.

For those of you, like myself, who are outside Metro Detroit, the Red Wings Sports Illustrated is out. Here in the Toronto area I've seen it in Zellers and Mac's.

    Sundin Headed to Free Agency

For a one year deal, sure.... Anymore than that, no thanks. I want Z and Franzen re-signed.

    SI Article: Wings Drafting...

I know there's luck involved, but maybe we should get credit for seeing things in players that other teams don't. Look at all the teams who passed up on Samuelsson, Cleary, Lilja, and Draper. I know a number of people aren't Sammy or Lilly fans, but they did have their part in the last two playoff runs.

    SI Article: Wings Drafting...

The Wings also allow their young players time to grow in the minors and become great players. They don't rush them to the NHL and expect them to do to much to soon. For example Datsyuk was drafted in 1998 but didn't play his first game in the NHL untill the 2001-02 season. Zetterberg, 1999 and didn't make the team until 2002-03. I think that's the key.

    All but final: Cap= 56.3M

I know Revenue Sharing is susposed to bridge the gap, but I've heard LA has said they were better off before the lockout. 8 teams have contacted Ballsilie about purchasing their team(s), so a number of NHL owners want out. Plus I've also heard that only 8 teams are making a profit, all 6 Canadian teams, leaving only 2 in the USA. Everything I heard was from the FAN590 in Toronto on Prime Time Sports with Bob MacCown. McCown isn't a Maple Leafs fan so this isn't homer reporting. This new salary cap system isn't as good as they thought it would be.

    All but final: Cap= 56.3M

They should eliminate the floor. Many small markets teams are worse off now than before the lockout.

    2008 NHL Entry Draft GDT

Nashville's up next with 18th. I think by the time the Wings get to pick, it'll be midnight.

    2008 NHL Entry Draft GDT

Yea lots of wasted time at something like this. I think it's funny every team has to say hello's and congrats before they say who they pick. It's almost like each team is trying to out do each other with their opening comments.

FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

It's probably better for the Leafs to let Sundin go. They shouldn't be trying to grab the 8th spot in the East, they should be trying to get the best draft picks possible for 2009 and 2010. Sundin is an excellent player, having him in Toronto will only hurt their chances of rebuilding. If the Leafs can get something for him, letting him sign with the Habs before July 1, I think it's a good move for both teams. Sundin is a perfect fit for Montreal and Toronto needs young talent.

FAN590 reports Sundin to the Habs

I'm not convinced Burke is taking over the Leafs next year. Plus the Ducks hired Burke's old buddy Dave Nonis as Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations. They worked together in Vancouver. http://ducks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=pag...rticleid=366433 Unless Nonis is going to take over Burke's job next year, but I'll believe Burke to the Leafs when I see it. The Toronto media and fans have been known to over blow rumors or suggestions before.

Reporter calls shenanigans on Reffing in the SCF

I have the games taped, and rewatched most of them.... Early in the Finals we were getting most of the Power Plays, also the first period of Game 5 we had 3 Power Plays, and couldn't convert. Someone here mentioned that we had more Power Plays in the Finals, so I don't buy into possible shenanigans. Plus I don't think the League and the Refs would want Detroit fans mad at them, we're brutal! We got the cup, and that's all that matters.
