I've been hearing rumors today, on the FAN590 in Toronto, that Pittsburgh is shopping Malkin. Despite his poor performance in the Finals, I'm surprised to hear this. If the re-signing Hossa has something to do with it, if I was Pittsburgh, I'd much rather has Malkin than Hossa.

If Sundin wants a one year deal, I'd sign him. More than that, pass, we probably can't keep his, Zetterberg's, and Franzen's contracts under the cap.

The only one I like is the third. I don't have a problem with the first Faceoff of a Power Play in the zone where the play stopped. I think having it in the team's zone who's killing the penalty as kind of tacky. Late in games when clinging to a one goal lead, it's not going to be fun having a faceoff in your own zone if the play was called behind their net. Number two, I agree with NFM, I think it'll be too tough for the refs to call the contact as legit or incidental. It may turn into those annoying hooking and holding calls.

I think our first priorities are to sign Zetterberg and Franzen long term before we think of Free Agents. After signing Z and Franzen, we'll know who we can afford to add to the team.

I say leave the NHL as 2-2-1-1-1, but wouldn't really care if they switched to 2-3-2. Baseball has to be 2-3-2 because they play everyday. The NBA has a 2-3-2 set up to cut down on travel costs, it allows the players to get a little more settled on the road, and also keeps them safe, since they are traveling less. I can see the advantages and disadvantages of both set ups.

Have you seen that pro-line commercial?

I'm not someone to rub things in people's faces, but since Pittsburgh tried to say they were better than Detroit in everything but winning the cup, I just had to google the Steelers Championship Parade from a few years ago. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...s/s_421528.html For the Steelers 2005 NFL Championship, by far the most popular team in the city, Pittsbrugh had 250,000 out for the Parade. I think I was to high when I guessed they'd have 200,000 out if the Penguins won. After seeing the Steelers had 250,000, my guess is Crosby and company would have had 75,000-100,000. I'm sure our 1.5 Million turn out for the Wings shut up many American Cities who have taken offence over the years for our Hockeytown Marketing Campaign.

I'm a little surprised Datsyuk won over Madden and Zetterberg, but congrats to him. I thought Zetterberg would take it, but it's great to see Dats and Z win a number of awards this year

On the highlights this morning, TSN showed the Lindstrom jersey while going through the winners. All they said was, "They need to spell his name right". I don't think the league should make a big deal about it, just move on. Probably what will happen is whoever put the names on the back of the jerseys will probably get in trouble, and whoever paid to get the jerseys done, won't go back to them. I guarantee outside Detroit no one is talking about it.

That Yzerman SH Goal to cut the Caps lead to 3-2 is one of my favorites. Yzerman came out of no where, waited and waited for Kolzig to go down in the butterfly, and beat him short side. Awesome stuff!

To answer the original post, typos and mistakes happen all the time. I don't think spelling Lidstrom's name wrong is that bad. It'll probably make the highlights.

I've kind of had enough with the kids in the jerseys. It's been over done. They have a kids hockey team every week introduce Hockey Night in Canada, when they named the 2002 Canadian Olympic Team, Hockey Canada had kids in jerseys walk up on stage to represent the players, and then tonight, just to name a few times. It's a cool idea, and a thrill for the kids, but I feel it's been there done that, try something else.
-
Maybe next year they'll forget about the kids. I'm sure it was a thrill for them, but I think it's a little tacky when they do stuff like having the kids talking in the videos and handing out the awards. Just have a regular awards show. All that extra stuff just slows the night down. CBC already has kids introduce Hockey Night in Canada. And Hockey Canada, when they introduced the 2002 Hockey Team, had kids come up on stage wearing the jersey. It's a interesting idea, but it's been over done, and other than giving the kids a thrill, I really don't understand what it stands for

Tonight was the first NHL awards show I've ever watched, due to all the Red Wings Nominated. It was like the Detroit Red Wings show tonight , loved it! Pavel's thank you speaches were so funny!

I'm not taking anything away from Rafalski's goal, but after thinking about it, I think the loudest I've heard the Joe on tv (never been to a playoffs game, and not counting when Yzerman lifted the Cup on home ice) was the entire 3rd period of Game 2 of the 1998 Final vs. Washington. Just incase you weren't a fan then, or old enough to remember, we were up in the series 1-0, but down 3-1 in the game going into the 3rd: -Yzerman made it 3-2 on a Short Handed Goal 5 minutes into the period. -30 seconds later Washington scored on the PP to make it 4-2. -A few minutes later Lapointe scored to make it 4-3. -A few minutes after that Tikannen deked Osgood like crazy and had an open net. He tried to slide the puck in the net, but it went wide. -A few more minutes after that, Brown tied the game, 4-4. -We continued to pressure Kolzig. At one point late in the period, Kolzig made a save, the whistle blew, and with a pile of people in front of the net, the puck somehow slid it. It was no goal since the whistle blew a few seconds earlier, but the place went nuts thinking we went ahead. We ended up winning the game 5-4 when Draper scored 15 minutes into OT. Yea, that 3rd period goes down as the loudest I've ever heard the Joe on tv.

No doubt. There's about 7 Million people within an hour's drive to downtown Toronto. A Stanley Cup Parade down Young Street would be massive. I don't think the city could handle it.

After hearing all this crap the last two weeks about Pittsburgh having better fans than we do, selling more playoff tickets, having better tv numbers, and selling more merchandise, I wonder how many people Pittsburgh would have to a Stanley Cup Parade? 200,000 tops? I think we proved to everyone again that we're Hockeytown USA. No USA city has anywhere close to the passion we do for Hockey. Actually I'm really impressed that we had more people come out in 2008 than our other 3 Championships with Yzerman, Shanahan, and Fedorov on the teams. I thought the numbers would be about the same as 1997, 1998, and 2002, or a little less. Excellent job HOCKEYTOWN USA Probably the only NHL cities that would have more than 1.5 Million to a Stanley Cup Championship Parade would be Montreal and Toronto.

I'll third it. I like the West.

Question: Will the Wings sign a big name free agent?
Barrie replied to hckypete96's topic in General
Agreed, I think locking up Zetterberg, Franzen, and Stuart are the first things the team wants to do before they look at UFA. I think we're fine to start the season. We can use the cap room at the trade deadline for a crack at a 5th Championship in 12 seasons. -
How 'bout: Game 6 of the 1997 WCF, when we beat Colorado for the first time. McCarty's Goal in Game 4 of the 1997 Final. The 3rd Period comeback in Game 2 of the 1998 Final. The 7-0 Game 7 in the 2002 WCF. Shanny's empty net goal to seal the 2002 Cup.

Wow I can't believe I'm saying this, but good move by the Leafs. They consistanly make moves that make you go , finally they've done something that makes some sense.
-
With high gas prices, once the big 3 figure out how to make better cars that run on something other than Oil, Detroit will be back. With the way things are going, that could be soon.
-
Yea we can only afford to sign Sundin for one year. Zetterberg needs to be signed long term after 2008-09, so we need the cap space. Montreal would be a better fit for Mats.

Even if this guy personally thinks we've got a grim future, why write an article like this about it? Stupid!
