I don't know a lot about Basketball either, but I would put Bowman and Jackson on the same page as well. Bowman and Jackson have had very similar careers. Bowman's Canadiens are very similar to Jackson's Bulls, and Bowman's Red Wings are very similar to Jackson's Lakers. Jackson deserves a lot of credit for his 3 straight Champships with the Lakers. He was able to bring the egos of Kobe and Shaq together. Not a lot of coaches could do that. I think he deserves a lot of credit for bringing this years Lakers team to the Finals. I really don't think you can say one was a better coach than the other.

I don't think you can compare the two since one was a forward and the other is a defenceman. There's twice as many forwards dressed each game (12/6). Other than Bobby Orr (who I think is the greatest player ever), I don't think it's a fair debate since the two positions are completely different. Maybe I'm a wuss but I'm not picking one over the other.

Agreed, I never watch HNIC unless it's the playoffs or the Wings are on. TSN shows better games/teams anyway, so good for TSN.

Retire 39? Nothing against Hasek, but no way! If they retire Hasek's number then Shanahan, Fedorov, Ozzie, Hull, Larionov, Robitaille, etc. should be up there too.

You can pick up the SI anywhere you get Magazines, that's what I've done. I just get the regular mag, not the hard bound book. I think you have to order the book. Whatever one you get, it's worth it. 2002's SI was $5.99 US or $8.99 Canadian, but not sure how much the book is. I don't have a SI subscription.

I watched CBC the night of too. They had a great post game interview with Maltby. He was holding his daughter, and she stole the interview. Most of the kids, for good reason, are shy infront of the camera, but not Maltby's little girl. It was too cute. Edit: fyi, http://youtube.com/watch?v=xmcSmO-tgq8 Maltby's interview is at 4:10

Yea we busted that type of thinking this year. I hope when our pick comes up, we pick who we think is the best player at that time. Never mind picking positions, who's the best available.

All playoffs I was saying that Sammy is one of those guys that drives you crazy in the regular season with his shoot from anywhere thinking, but he's a good in the playoffs because he gets the puck to the net. In the playoffs he created rebound chances, faceoffs in the Offensive Zone, and scored a few key goals.

I had a friend today ask me if I think the Wings can win it all again next year. I said, "I want to enjoy this year a bit more before I think of next year". Edit: I'll start thinking 2008-09 after July 1st.

Good move on Wilson's part to get a 4 year deal. When the Leafs miss the playoffs the next two years, because they suck, there will be pressure by the media and fans to fire him. The 4 year deal saves him from that.

Since 2002, the three years Dom was on the team in the playoffs, we won two Stanley Cups and made it to the Conference Finals. Since 2002, the three years he wasn't, we went out in the first round twice and the second round once. Not bad!

I was a little surprised to see Chelios 4th. I wonder if he jumped the line ? Sounds like something he'd do.

That 2002 Wings-Avs series was the best 7 game series I've ever seen. There was so much emotion and pride involved. Both teams had 2 Cups going into the series, and we all knew whoever won the series would be the eventual Stanley Cup Champion.

For me it's: 1) 2002 With the Hall of Fame team and Yzerman on one leg won't be topped as my favorite Championship. Plus 2002 we had to win, there was no way around it. The pressure to win was at it's highest. All in all, it was really a fun year to be a fan with all that firepower and Hasek in net. 2) 1997 The first one that put to rest a lot of disappointments. Beating the Avs was a great accomplishment on it's own. 3) 2008 I don't think this one has sunk in yet, it's unreal, we're Champs again! I think once I see the Championship DVD and all the gear in the stores it'll sink in. After seeing Yzerman and Shanahan leave, and seeing how tough it was for us to get out of the first couple rounds after 2002, I was wondering if we'd win again anytime soon. For me the best part of this Cup is seeing Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Maltby, Draper, and McCarty win their 4th, and to have Ozzie back as #1 goalie and DMac home. Storybook/Movie script ending. 4) 1998 When talking about Championships, it's hard to rank one last. 1998 was awesome as well. Winning back-to-back and seeing Vladdy on the ice is an exerience like no other. However, I ranked it forth because I think 1998 was the least stressful, because we were the defending champs, and despite being down 2-1 in the first round, there was really no doubt we'd win again.

GDT 2008 SCF Game 6 GDT: Red Wings 3, Penguins 2
Barrie replied to aflac9262's topic in Hall of Fame
I agree, especially after the playoff exits of 2003, 2004, and 2006, and Stevie and Shanny leaving, it almost felt like we wouldn't win it again or for a very long time. 2008 is like a storybook ending with Ozzie as #1 and DMac back. I'm so happy for everyone on the team, I'm especially happy for Maltby, Draper, Lidstrom, Holmstrom, and McCarty for winning their 4th. Whan an accomplishment. -

Unreal! I can't believe it, 4 Stanley Cups in 11 Seasons. We could have won it the last few seasons, but with Ozzie as #1 Goalie and DMac back, it was the right year to win. 2008 Stanley Cup Champions Edit: I'll be around daily, like always, but just want to wish everyone here a great summer -
All the best Behind Enemy Lines. My heart was beating fast Monday night as well, so I can see how watching a Cup clinching game can be bad for someone's health. Take it easy man, be back soon.

I hear ya man, I'm kinda looking forward to it being over. Those extra days off to get the games on saturday night are slowing this thing down.

Win or lose, I'll be here after the game. I had a nap after work because I'm expecting a late night.

I think it's too soon for the Leafs to bring in a guy like Ron Wilson. They won't be making the playoffs for a few more seasons, which will put pressure on Leafs management to fire him sooner then they'd probably want to. Obviously Wilson is a guy they want to try and win a championship with. I don't understand why they wouldn't want to go with a B list coach for a few seasons, then bring in someone better when the team is developing into something good. They should have stuck with Maurice for a few more years. Edit: I'll believe the Burke stuff when it happens.

I appreciate the Congrats, but we haven't won anything yet. All we have right now is 3 shots at winning 1 game.

I think we win big tonight, 5-1 Wings

I wouldn't put to much into what we say here. This is a Red Wings message board. People come here to have fun, voice their opinions, and/or let off a little steam. Nothing here should really be taken too seriously. Daily we prove to each other that we're Red Wings Homers and why none of us are Professional Hockey Experts or Sports Writers. Lets Go Red Wings!

I'm sure our players are even more determined to win the Cup tomorrow night.

God doesn't care who wins. I've never understood why people pray for a win.
