Barrie replied to Matt's topic in Hall of Fame
Love it! Best part is, if you hit Franzen in the head, he'll beat on Malkin.- 561 replies

Despite taking the Pens to the Finals, he should be fired after we win the Cup, if the Pens want to win a Cup of their own one day. Obviously Therrien can't keep his emotions in check, can’t keep his focus where it should be, and can’t handle the pressure. A coach should be a better example to his players. If this is the way Therrien conducts himself, I'm not surprised Pittsburgh unraveled the way they did after Game 2. This series may not come back to Detroit. The next time we see the Wings could be at the Stanley Cup Parade. How is Therrien going to get his team ready when he's still bitching and moaning about obstruction and Ozzie possibly diving?

At that point in the game, I thought Ozzie falling after being hit was excellent timing. A lot of sports and competition is mind games and Ozzie's been around the block enough to know it. Ozzie has the Pens talking and worrying more about him diving, instead of being shutout two straight games. Good job Ozzie

That was great to see Datsyuk get a few good licks in on Roberts, and Franzen also getting a couple good shots in on Malkin. If Pittsburgh wants to play rough, we can handle ourselves. CBC said they think the scrum is going to help the Pens going into Game 3. Nah, all it does is make the Wings mad. Pens fans should be embarrassed.

Mario better calm his team down. The more they talk and play, the more it's going to cost him in fines. Pittsburgh's showing their age and playoff experience. It truly is the men against the boys in this series. Only 2 wins to go, and Stanley's home.

I think 3-1 (Datsyuk, Cleary, and Holmstrom) as well.
-
I vote McCarty.

Too funny, in 4.5 hours I've heard: -Franzen still needs to be cleared by doctors -Franzen won't play -Franzen will play -Franzen won't play and -Franzen will play Must be the Stanley Cup Finals or something.....

I agree. I'm not expecting Mule to continue his scoring pace. The best thing is to have another big body infront of Fleury.
-
Wow, the League is actually starting to make some sense! Every team will face each other starting next year, and there's talk of Seattle as a city for a new team. What's this game coming too?
-
Nice. I'm glad the ratings were good for Game 1. Despite what some people think, the NHL needs good ratings. The games need to be on ESPN not Vs. The ratings will be even higher for the NBC games.

I guess that was his response to msn.com Top 10 Reasons Why The Wings Will Win the Cup. This time of year you get a lot of that kind of thing. I used to take sports that serious where I hated teams, but I was 15 years old. 16 years later, I know sports is entertainment, and won't allow myself to have that kind of hated towards something that's just a game and I have no control over.
-
That makes sense. Where they are in the playoffs, Malkin can't take time to rest properly. If he got it in the offseason it probably would clear up in 3-4 days tops, but in the playoffs, it could last weeks.
-
Last week I heard Darren Eliot of CBC say he thinks Pittsburgh is hiding a Malkin injury.
-
Didn't Crosby say after Game 1 he hopes they get better calls in Game 2? So it goes both ways. If Fleury had made the save on Lidstrom's shot, this whole thing probably wouldn't be as big as it is.
-
My take. Yes Holmstrom put his stick between Fleury's pads. It was such a small thing, the goal should have counted, but Holmstrom needs to realize the refs are watching him. It's simple, Tomas should just stand 6 inches further away, and the problem is solved. What bothers me most is, this is reminding me a lot of the 1998 and 1999 playoffs where all the crease goals were called back. The League may have a problem if they're so picky on Holmstrom, it may decide the Cup. I hope if they're so tight on Homer, that Pittsburgh is called the same way. Props to the Wings for not letting the non-goal effect them.

Great start by the Wings Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Hossa were shut down and frustrated as I excepted they would be. I really don't have a lot to add to all the comments, all I can say is we played an excellent all around game tonight. After winning Game 1, having Franzen possibly back for Game 2, is HUGE!! It's been 6 years since our last trip to the Finals, and I almost forgot how exciting it is to be there. The Finals are a lot different then the regular season and the rest of the playoffs. It's an experience all its own. Only 3 more wins to go

Yea Minnesota, Buffalo, and now Pittsburgh have said they deserve the title now. To bad it was a maketing campaign, and not something the League gave us.
-
Wow, it's like I wrote that article myself. I agree 100% with his reasons. I too, have nothing against Pittsburgh, I think they are an excellent organization. They'll win Cups, probably 2 or 3, but this probably is a year where they find out what it takes to win Championships. I'm glad he mentioned Babcock, I haven't heard anyone talk about him yet. This is Bab's second go round in the Finals, lost in 2003, so he knows what's involved here.

I think the thing that gives a team the best chance to beat the Wings, is to either outshoot 'em, or match 'em shot for shot. Considering our faceoff percentage is excellent, and more often then not we control the play, it's a tough task. Add to that, Ozzie is fine with under 25 shots a night, so it's not like a team will catch him napping.
-
I'll 4th that, It's not worth it. Just hang out here and let Detroit-Pittsburgh take care of it on the ice.
-
I wouldn't doubt it. While the whole thing was going on, I was wondering if that call would screw him out of working the finals. As much as we'd like to think that refs are out to get us, the last thing the NHL and the Head of Officiating would want is a conspiracy, especially after what the NBA went through.
-
Yea I was thinking, before I read your reply, they should get him during the Game 1 warmups. Most of the fans know what's going on.

I agree. Bettman doesn't have as much say as some of you here think. The guy is a puppet for the Owners. There's no way the officials have a bias towards a team. If they do, they'll lose their job.
