I agree, put the lines together and we're going to be a pain to play against. We got a good mix of size and speed. Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Cleary-Filppula-Samuelsson Franzen-Draper-Hudler Maltby-Kopecky/Drake-McCarty/Downey Lidstrom-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Lebda/Lilja-Chelios Osgood Hasek

Nice youtube clips . Stuart and McCarty will provide some needed strength to the team. Both guys hit hard, and opposing players will have to keep their heads up when they are on the ice. True, we need some more scoring, but so does 29 other teams in the NHL. The Salary Cap has mixed the talent around.

Who cares? Let Anaheim and Dallas have all the pressure. We won the Cup in 1997 and 1998 as 3rd seeds. Out of all the times we finished 1st in the Conference, we've only won the Cup once.

Please see Post #21, some of the players and THE COACH didn't want Fedorov here.
-
Right. Also, every team who were buyers were looking for 2nd line scoring, which made it tougher to find. Going into the deadline I thought we needed to get a little bigger and stronger. Adding McCarty and Stuart is going to help out a bit in both areas. Looking at possible line combinations I think we'll be a tough team to play against. We have a good mix of guys who can skate, score goals, and hit hard.

Well after reading the emotion on this board, there's no way I'd invite all of you to watch the Trade Deadline with me. My place would get trashed.
-
Yea Columbus wouldn't have traded with us anyway, so we had no chance at getting Fedorov. I didn't want him back anyway.
-
I think it was a good deadline. Once everyone gets healthy, this is how the team looks going into the playoffs: Zetterberg-Datyuk-Holmstrom Cleary-Filppula-Samuelsson Franzen-Draper-Hudler Maltby-Kopecky-McCarty/Downey/Drake Lidstrom-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Lebda/Lilja-Chelios Osgood Hasek I think we have a good mix of skill, size, and strength. We'll be a difficult team to play against in the playoffs.
-
It didn't sound to me like there was to many quality forwards available anyway, unless a team was willing to sell the farm. There still will be trades to be announced after the League approves them, so there maybe something else coming.
-
Guys, we need to make room on the bandwagon. Everyone who jumped off the last couple hours will be trying to get back on.
-
Dude listen, Columbus wouldn't have traded with us, plus Foote was only going to waive his no-trade if he went to Colorado. And why should we have matched the offer for Hossa? Also, maybe other teams don't have much interest in Hudler.
-
Oh wow, Pittsburgh gave up a ton! I still don't understand why fans would have wanted Hossa anyway. We already have Zetterberg and Datsyuk (same type of player), plus Hossa is a no show in the playoffs.
-
Well Burke found a loophole, I think he's smart guy for taking advantage. You can be sure they'll make changes next year. I heard Burke's comments, mostly he was talking about having his team figured out by Christmas and using the deadline to make minor moves.
-
Interesting you should say that. There's a book here in Canada called "The 100 Greatest Hockey Arguments". One of the chapters is about the trade deadline. Most teams that win the Stanley Cup make minor house cleaning moves, the ones that make a major splash, never go all the way. http://www.amazon.ca/McCowns-Law-Greatest-...5348&sr=1-1 I don't have the list in front of me, but I've looked at it, and heard it talked about on the radio. In recent History, the only team that make big moves that went on to win the Stanley Cup was 2006 Hurricanes, when they added Weight and Recchi.
-
It's more about being realistic. Look at all the moves, how many would have made sense for the Wings? Either it would have cost us to much to get him (Richards), we don't need him (Huet), and/or there's no chance those teams would have traded with the Wings (Lapointe, Foote, Fedorov). Let me add, that adding Hossa wouldn't make sense either. Hossa is another Zetterberg and Datsyuk, and would be difficult to fit the 3 of them under the cap in the future. Hossa also is a no show in the playoffs. Sooo if you ask me. Going into the deadline, the only guys I thought made sense to add were McCarty and Sundin. We got McCarty, and Sundin decided to stay with Toronto. If we make no more deals today, I'm not upset but looking forward to getting healthy.

That's why people here aren't GM's in the NHL.
-
Excellent post man!
-
Oh man, the Avs must think it's 2001.
-
In the future you all should take a day off work/school and come to Canada for the NHL trade deadline day. I'm surrounded with it. All 3 TV Sports Stations and the FAN590 in Toronto has all day coverage. I'm not going to start tuning in until about Noon though. The morning is all sepulation, and get's repetitive.
-
There's better options for us. I'm glad McCarty's back, but I'm not interested in Lapointe and Fedorov too.
-
I'll be the first to admit I was interested in Lapointe at last year's deadline, but with McCarty back, we don't need Marty.
-
I love the move! It's great having McCarty back, and if he just can't cut it if he's called up, it's not like we broke the bank to get him. It's no risk. Welcome back DMac!!
-
Let me be blunt and say, Sundin's a loser in more ways than one. He's totally screwed over the Leafs, and I can't believe he has no drive in him to win a Championship at this stage in his career. Leaf fans SHOULD be angry, and Sundin SHOULD be booed at the ACC now. Sundin has every right to say no, but the guy should realize how he can help the team by being traded. TWO BIG from me to Sundin.
-
Pass on Hossa, and go after Sundin. I think Sundin is more the type of player we need. Mats has size, Hossa is the same size as Datsyuk and Zetterberg. You need size in the playoffs, so I'm hoping for Sundin, McCarty, and keeping Ericsson on the team.

Maybe that dude's computer doesn't go past 39?
