I'm with you guys. Things were better before the lockout. I liked it when teams could load up with salaries and stars. Since the lockout, only Detroit, Ottawa, and sometimes Carolina are really good. Before the Lockout it was Detroit, Toronto, Philly, Colorado, Dallas, Boston, Vancouver, and NJ. I miss those days already. Scoring is down because besides a few teams at the top and bottom, every team is similar in skill and ability. It's funny how the league doesn't recognize that.

    Avery vs. Tucker

Let me say this, out of Tucker and Avery, I'd rather have Tucker on my team. Both are similar type of players, but Tucker doesn't cross the line like Avery does.

    Sean Avery

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0zQQZH_w1c...feature=related This has the fight in the Game, along with Coaches Corner talking about the pregame stuff. Edit: I gotta laugh seeing the smile on Avery's face get bigger and bigger. He knew he had Tucker where he wanted him. At the end of the 2005-06 season I wanted Avery kicked out of the League, but if the NHL still wants him around, then this stuff is going to continue to happen.

    Trade Deadline Options

Right. Sundin is a franchise player, and it would take a farm to bring him here. It would be like if we traded Yzerman when he was 36. I say pass on him, let another team, hopefully in the East, break the bank for him. The only position I'd like to see us make a big move would be for a Goalie. If Hasek tanks, then I can see us go after a #1 between the pipes. A friend of mine said on TSN a few weeks ago they made mention of the Wings being interested in Vokoun if Florida is out of the playoff picture. Now that would be huge! I'd also like to see a 3rd line guy would could add some grit and timely goal scoring.

Dom Drops Ball, Ozzie Answers Call

I hate to say it, but I think Dom is done. I was hoping we'd quit while we're ahead with him after last season, and bring up Howard this year, but oh well. Not my decision. If Dom tanks, I don't think it's a big deal. Ozzie can be #1 and Howard can back up. Hasek's $2.5 Million isn't that much against the cap anyway. Yup, I have a lot of respect for Dom when it comes to that. If he can't do it, he'll be the 1st one to say so.

    Sean Avery

I'm about 50/50 on this whole Avery-Tucker-Blake thing. I don't condone what Avery said, but I don't think it really should be as big a deal as the Toronto media is making it out to be. It's Avery, what do you expect? The guy's been doing this his entire career, there's a reason he's already on his 3rd team. I think when it comes to comments like this, it should stay on the ice. Let the players work it out, which Tucker did when he fought Avery, so props to Tucker. Players say stuff to each other all the time on the ice, and it shouldn't be made public. All it does is create bad press. What Avery did is called getting under the opppnents skin and trying to get an edge, it happens all the time. I'm sure Mario Lemieux and Koivu heard about their medical conditions by opposing players, so I don't understand why the Leafs had to make Avery's comments public. Just deal with in on the ice, don't get the fans and media involved. Actually I had to laugh when I saw the highlights of the warm ups. The smile on Avery's face was getting bigger and bigger, while Tucker was getting angrier and angrier. Tucker even tried to hit Avery in the neck with the blade of his stick. If Avery get's suspended or fined for what he said to Blake, I think Tucker should get suspended or fined for trying to use his stick as a weapon. You gotta hand it to Avery for getting a Gordie Howe hattrick after what went on in warm ups. Plus Avery get's paid millions of dollars to get under people's skin. I think he does a good job at it. The best thing to do is for a opposing player to go after him, instead of getting the media involved. I think if it's being talked about in the media, it gives Avery more reason to continue his antics. Just pound him, and he'll stop.

Hold on a sec, Ashley has been seen with Lance? Isn't Lance in his 40's? I don't really have a problem with age differences with couples, but if the guy is old enough to be her father or visa versa, that's to much.

$5 Million is alot, considering teams only need to pay a small portion of the player's salary if they get them at the deadline.

    Congrats to Henrik Zetterberg

    You da man Z! Congrats!
  13. Barrie

    Darren Dreger Comment

Well we have almost $5 Million to play with at the deadline. We'll be making some big moves for the playoffs.

    Darren Dreger Comment

No to Sundin, Matts is the franchise, it would take to much to bring him here. Remember what it took some teams to get players last year at the deadline? The only big name player I'd bring in is a goalie. Up front we're fine, all we need is 3rd line guys, like what we did last year (Bert, Kyle).

Head over to Yahoo! NHL to vote

I voted. We're still winning in a landside with 47%. I've said it in another discussion, and I'll say it here. Detroit is Hockeytown USA, because from 1995-2006 Hockey was the biggest and most popular sport in the city. Minnesota and Buffalo are great hockeytowns, BUT the Wild have never been more popular than the Vikings or Twins, and the Sabres have never been more popular than the Bills in their hometowns. Also, I find it a little funny that McKeon called St. Paul MN the new Hockeytown USA considering this is the 2nd time around for the Twin Cities in the NHL.

    Where is Darren McCarty?

It's been 10 years but the goal will be remembered until the end of time. When you're in the limelight, everything get's thrown at you, drugs, drinking, women, gambling, etc.. Some guys can handle the temptations, others can't. Humans screw up all the time. A guy like McCarty had to screw up in front of the world. We're lucky, when we screw up, it's only in front of a small amount of people. If it wasn't for the Salary Cap, DMac still would have been a Red Wing, and would have been able to retire in Detroit. I honestly feel for the guy, because he gave us so much as a player. Plus he was very active in the community. I wish him all the best.

    New Hockeytown ?!?!?

Right, it wasn't a title the NHL gave Detroit, it was a Marketing Slogan thought up after our 1995 trip to the Stanley Cup Finals and a nickname. People outside Detroit didn't realize that, and for some reason took offence to it. However, looking at the other American Hockey markets in recent years, Hockey was actually the top sport in Detroit. In all other American markets, even if the Hockey team sells out, Hockey is still 3rd or 4th in popularity. The Wings from 1995-2006 (before the Tigers turned it around), were the top sport in the city. In Minnesota the Vikings and Twins are more popular than the Wild. In Buffalo, the Bills are more popular than the Sabres. The Wings were top dog, hense the name Hockeytown.
  19. In all fairness to Datsyuk, Zetterberg should get more considering he signed long term a few seasons later. Z won't find a better city to play hockey in, and I'm sure he knows it. I bet too that Chelios, Lidstrom, Draper, Maltby, Ozzie, Holmstrom, etc. have told him how great the Wings treat them.

    Toronto Vs Caps

A friend of mine who's a Leafs fan went to that game. I talked to him yesterday and said to him, "Oh well, atleast you saw Ovechkin score 2 goals". I also asked him if he stayed the entire game, and made comments on how badly the Leafs were blown out. I've stayed quiet the last few years when it comes to the Leafs, but not this year. I have another friend, the last few years he always betting me the Leafs will make the playoffs. This year he's saying the same kind of things and will probably bet me money again in March that they'll make it. The last few years I've stayed quiet, but so far I've gone all out telling him how bad the team is. I don't say much because I know what goes around comes around, but the Leafs are bad, and looking at their organization and the moves JFJ have made, will only get worse. Mostly I think I've tired of talking about the Leafs considering there's so many other good teams and stars in the NHL.

    Anaheim Duck fans

In Anaheim Hockey and the NHL is like NLL here. What's the NLL you say? It's the National Lacrosse League. How many of us know Lacrosse? I don't, and I don't really care. Also it's like Nascar here, again, I don't know about it and I don't care. The vast majority of people in Anaheim didn't grow up with Hockey, like us in Southern Ontario and Michigan, so obviously they don't know the rules. Oh well, atleast they're at a game.

    2007 Baseball Season

Well I know 4 Red Sox fans, and I'm very happy for them. Unless someone I know is either a Toronto fan or a fan of a Detroit rival, I'm glad for them when their team wins a Championship. I usually tell them I know how it feels and to enjoy. I also enjoy it when their non Toronto and Detroit rival teams win because it brings back a lot some great memories. You can't get jealous if you've seen 7 Professional Detroit Championships (and counting) in your lifetime (I was born in 1976), you enjoy it with your friends. Atleast that's how I feel. Edit: I'll add to my feel good post.... To every Red Sox fan on lgw, enjoy your 2nd World Series Championship in 4 years!!
