That's not something to brag about. It's complete stupidity on Leaf fans part. If they're sick of the losing, then hit management where it hurts, the wallet.

Hey man, you got my vote. However I never would have thought about it on my own.

I'll throw in my best wishes and good lucks to Williams. I never had a strong opinion about the guy either way, so I'm not overly happy or pissed he's gone. Other than a solid year last year, I thought he played well in the 2002 Playoffs when he suited up 9 times. Nothing major, but held his own out there as a rookie.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal
Barrie replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
The more I think about this trade, the more I like it. I didn't have to much against Williams, but I agree it was time for him to go. This is far from a major move, but it looks like Calder brings a lot to the table. If he has a solid rest of the season and playoff, and we like this guy, I wonder how much it'll take to re-sign him? You would think we could for less than what he's making now. -
Tough to bring in a guy who hasn't played since October. I wonder what kind of shape he'll be in? It may take him until the playoffs to get his grove back. I'm not against brining him here, I just hope we don't over spend.

I don't want to read through 13 pages, so not sure if this has been asked yet, but any guess which line Calder plays on? I'd put him out there with Lang. -
When is Bertuzzi excepted to come back? I thought I heard he's out all season. Will he even be back for the 1st round?

Right. I'm sure he's making room so we can re-sign Datsyuk or have more money available for a free agent in the off season. Holland thinks ahead. -

Calder looks similar to Williams, but can play on the PK. Decent move to get rid of Williams salary next year. Nothing really to get to excited or to down about. It's a whatever kind of deal. -
Hey, FYI, the Wings were a 3rd seed in 1998 too. Dallas was #1 and Colorado was #2. We were #2 overall in the West with points, but Dallas and Colorado won the Divisions, making us #3.

Tucker loves Toronto, so it should come as a surprise to anyone that he re-signed.

Yeah there's no way I want to face Calgary 1st round. I don't want to play Minnesota either. I'm sick of playing these low seeds who stick 4 guys in the neutral zone and ride a hot Goalie. I've been against allowing 5-8 seeds in the playoffs for years, because they ruin the game with the trap. Plus they never win the Stanley Cup. It drives me crazy, when people say they like to see the top teams upset in the 1st round. Then later on in the playoffs they wonder why the games are so boring and why tv ratings are so low. I'm hoping Nashville wins the division and we play Dallas. I think Calgary is going to upset in the 1st round. Those guys are built for the playoffs.

Trade for second-tier players are Wings' only option
Barrie replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
Yup it's new info, so it's all good . -
How can Carter go for a 5th rounder, and Rivet a 1st and a player? I hope Kenny doesn't make any moves, it's not worth it. I say we take our chances with who we have now, then add in the off season.

I know the Tigers are in Lakeland right now, but I honestly can't get really excited until the Wings season is over. The Wings are my baby. They get my full attention until they've played their last game, then it's on to the Tigers. Plus, the NBA playoffs are coming up. With all the snow we're getting in Northern Michigan and Southern Ontario, it's tough to think Baseball. Baseball actually is my favorite sport, but the Wings are my favorite Detroit team. Figure that one out .

I'm all for no-touch icing.

Yeah the 1996-97 and 1997-98 teams were excellent. When we didn't get past the 2nd round in 1998-99 and 1999-00 we for some reason we went back to our early to mid 90's teams. Imagine what it would be like if we didn't win the Cup in 2001-02.
-
I really don't have a problem with players going back to their old teams.
-
It got me as well. Funny stuff!

Yzerman said the same type of thing a few months into the season. He commented that being a GM can look easy on the outside, but actually seeing what's inolved, it's really tough. There's 29 other GM's wanting to better their team just like the Wings, everything won't go as planned. Sometimes we need to just take what we can get or just do nothing. I know, but players like that can go through long stretches where they don't score. A lot of those goals can be luck, getting a good break/bounce, or being at the right place at the right time. I'm really not surprised Cleary has stopped scoring.
-
Right. I like Cleary, but he should be on the 3rd or 4th line. Lang should be skating with Hudler, not Cleary. Almost all of Cleary's goals are rebounds or tip ins, he doesn't create scoring chances, and shouldn't be considered a 2nd line guy. It would be like putting Maltby on the 2nd line after scoring 14 goals in 1997-98.
-
Yzerman was a minus many years because he continually played against the other team's top line.
-
Laraque sounds good to me. We may have to outbid Pittsburgh for him though.
-
Maybe Lang will get it going? I think he's going to put together another good playoff. He's playing for a contract. Also, we can give some more ice time to Hudler and Filppula.
