I'm getting a feeling that the Wings are only in some of these talks to drive up the prices for other teams. Holland himself said the market is to high. We don't really need a 1st or 2nd line guy. All we need is some size on the 3rd and 4th to protect Zetterberg and Datsyuk.
-
Geeze, if it's going to take that much to add someone, I'd be really ticked if we get Guerin. All we need is a player or two who can protect Zetterberg and Datsyuk. If Anson Carter can be traded for a 5th, I'm sure there's a player or two who we can bring over and not end up selling the farm. However, I do like the fact that Detroit is in on the trade talks with Tkachuk, Guerin, Bertuzzi, etc., because it's driving the prices up. I agree. We don't need a 1st or 2nd line guy, just some toughness in the 3rd or 4th line.

Osgood has been known to let in some softies, it's nothing new. Remember the 1998 Playoffs?
-
Calgary has Kipper, and are built for the playoffs. No thanks I'm not saying the Wings are going to lose on purpose. Yeah try for the Division, but after the last two playoffs, I won't be upset at all if we finish 4th.
-
1st seed may have to face Calgary. I'd rather play Dallas or SJ.
-
If we finish 1st in the West, chances are we'll play Calgary in the 1st round.
-
I still say let Nashville win the Division. If we win the West again, it'll be just like the last two years in the Playoffs, everyone will be gunning for us. Give Nashville the bulls-eye this year.
-
Well we are tied. We did a decent job getting point on the road. We haven't played all that well away from The Joe this year, so I'm happy that we are tied after tonight. Especially after the 1st period. Nashville could have got a huge lead, but Ozzie held strong.
-
I was going to say the same kind of thing, but you said it perfect. Point wise, Yzerman fell off a bit. Lidstrom was a rock and was the most consistant player that playoff year, he deserved MVP.
-
Sweet, just like that, it's 2-1 Wings. Man we gotta play better 5 on 5 the rest of the game. We were lucky it was on 1-0 Preds after the first 20 minutes.

If American Sports fans aren't into the NHL yet, they never will. Hockey's a great game, but it's a regional sport and has a loyal fan base. The League should stick to making the loyal fans happy instead of STILL trying to gain new fans. With that said, I don't think putting the trade deadline on another weekend would make any difference.

I'm glad Kenny has his limits. There's no point in trading away a 1st and Hudler or Filppula for an over the hill UFA. I don't think we have to win the Cup this year. We're set for a while with our young talent. I don't want to ruin the future for a Tkachuk or Guerin, it's not worth it.
-
All that really means is that Atlanta is making a push for Tkachuk too.
-
True, but Carter is a decent player. You would think he could fetch more than a 5th rounder.
-
I think the Carter to Carolina for a 5th trade is going to lower the overall value. After reading what some teams want for their UFA (Top prospect and a 1st), I was shocked to hear Carolina got Carter for a 5th.

Ok, something I don't understand. It seems to me that no one here believe's this Eklund guy, but people continue to post his trade rumors. What's with that?
-
Now I see why some of you pile up on your total number of Posts, by commenting during games. I've been around here since 2003, and I'm still over 300 posts away from 2,000.

Leafs lost in a SO tonight Leave it to Toronto to climb all the way back into 8th spot, then go on a losing streak.
-
Ok. Well my comments really didn't have anything to do with bringing him back. As mentioned in another discussion, I'm ok with staying as is for the playoffs. I don't like the idea of trading Hudler or Filppula and a 1st rounder for a UFA. Also, if these Lapointe rumors are fan and media driven and not from the organization, then there's really no use for me to debate it anymore. However, I think it's sad sometimes that Marty is remembered more for the late Penalties in the 2001 playoffs, more so than his performance in the 1997 and 1998 Cup runs. -1997 stepped it up with 12 pts, and he was excellent against the Avs. -1998 he scored 9 goals (15 pts), including the Cup GWG. Also, he annoyed the hell out of Belfour in the WCF and got him off his game. -2001 despite the late penalties, we really didn't have a chance with Stevie and Shanny out anyway.
-
I think unfairly Lapointe's penalties in 2001 still overshadow a lot of good he did in a Wings jersey. I watched that series against the Kings, and was as disapointed as everyone else, but honestly, with Stevie and Shanny injured that playoff, we really had no chance.

Yeah, we should know first hand that Guerin is a Stanley Cup Champion.
-
Crymson, you da man I think this, "We could have got Guerin before the season for nothin'" talk is . It makes no sense to me to make this an issue at the end of February. No one knew he'd bounce back like he did. There was a reason why he signed with St. Louis. I have to agree with Holland. The market for these rent o' players is to high. The only player who's going to be an UFA at the end of this season I'd like the Wings to go after is Ryan Smyth. Unlike the other players, Smyth would probably sign long term (assuming Datsyuk goes somewhere else, and there's money available). He's the only one worth it to trade a prospect(s) and picks for. "Nuts" to the rest of them. I'd rather go with what we have, and try and grab a FA or two in the offseason.
-
With all of that said, I'd rather we don't make a major move at all. If Bertuzzi, Tkachuk, and Guerin are only around for for rental and don't stick around, then I don't want to see Filppula, Hudler, or Grigorenko and a 1st traded for any of them. And if the Lapointe rumor doesn't make any sense, then I say stick with what we have.
-
Right, Holland has the final say anyway. Nothing we say here effects what happens. All we can do is sit back and watch what goes down.
-
1997 he had 12 pts (4 G, 8 A) in 20 GP 1998 was his big playoff year 15 pts (9 G, 6 A) in 21 GP At the risk of giving Crymson another , out of the main guys available, I like Lapointe over Tkachuck, Bertuzzi, and Roberts. Tkachuk has a history of bad playoffs, bad penalties, and bad work ethic. Bertuzzi would bring a media circus, also who knows when he's coming back? Roberts is 40 and has injury problems. Plus Roberts wants to go to either Toronto or Ottawa. I know Lapointe is making $2.4 Million, but I don't think it's that big a deal, especially if we have an excellent playoffs. For one year, we can handle it. If we get Lapointe or not, 2007-08 will be some what of a rebuilding year. Howard will be on the team; Lang, Schneider, and Maltby will probably be gone; Filppula, Kopecky, and Hudler (whoever's left) will be given increased ice time (low salaries); Grigorenko will get a chance (another low salary). We probably won't be a major player in the FA market this off season with all our young talent, so Lapointe's $2.4 million probably won't really effect anything. 2008-09 we'll be more active signing FA's, and at that point, Lapointe will either be gone, or sign for less. Guerin would be a good pick up, but I think we'd still need to bring in someone who can fight.
