Wings remove Carlo Colaiacovo from injured reserve
Barrie replied to MidMichSteve's topic in General
I wonder what rule I've been thinking of then? I thought it has something to do about not being able to trade someone in the 1st year of their contract. -
Which teams are even going to make trades? Calgary and Florida? The only deadline splash will be getting Iginla. With 28 teams being buyers, the market for Iginla will be ridiculous.

Wings remove Carlo Colaiacovo from injured reserve

So what's the over/under for him going back on IR? 3.5 games? I'll take the under. Unless there was a change to the CBA, but I didn't think guys could be traded during the 1st year of a deal. -
Potential playoff chances projection **Mod Warning Post #10**
Barrie replied to Richdg's topic in General
Ah, no worries here, we'll make the playoffs. Despite all the road games left, we seem to be playing well on the road lately. -
Right blowing up the team will mean we will be trading to teams that will be drafting in the 20-30 spots. If we were in 100% rebuild mode, those aren't picks that you want for a rebuild. Edit: I'll add, I wouldn't count on too many moves at the deadline. With the 48 game season, a number of teams are still in the race. The only team probably willing to unload guys is Buffalo.
-
Holland hasn't made a major deadline move in years, so I don't know why you'd think he'd trade Nyquist or Tatar. I think it's pretty obvious that Holland and company are looking to the future.
-
I agree, neither are ready for the NHL yet.

Quincey is one of many over priced Defencemen in the current NHL cap world. The market for average "D" is inflated. If we weren't overpaying for Quincey, we'd be overpaying someone else.

Considering you posted this after the Oilers went up 2-0, it is a knee jerk thread.

See my comment, he wanted to play on a line with them.
-
I was one who questioned the Dats-Cleary-Abby line, until I heard Datsyuk wanted to play on a same line with them.

Can people really not see or understand that we're currently rebuilding on the fly? You know what's sad? Is that some people need to be reminded that there's a salary cap.

BOG Approves realignment, Detroit to the East in 2013/14.

I just wish we could play more games against the other division in the conference. Instead of 38 games against teams in your division, how about 30 in your division, 24 against the other teams in the conference, and 28 (14x2) against the other Conference for more variety? I still think almost half your games against 7 teams, and two best of 7 series within your own division in the playoffs is way too many Also all those Western Conference games are going to have horrible attendance, especially Division A. Edit: Ok, I just saw this article about how the games are going to be played. My suggestion about 30, 28, 24 games is in there and the wild cards could switch things up a bit for the playoffs, so I'm ok with it. http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-realignment-now-official-wild-card-playoffs-four-162852277--nhl.html -
I think I understand how with Nyquist called up, Tatar is the one sent down. I'm sure the decision isn't based on Tatar's play, but it's to help Grand Rapids. Add to that Tatar can get top line minutes again. With that said I don't agree with it, but I understand. I am looking forward to watching Nyquist play.

Ok more ranting from me (I don't like to rant of facebook, so I come here! Luck you )... Being Canadian, I don't know if the media in this country is stupid, or if the Government tells them to push Canadian Propaganda. I've been getting the Sportsnet Magazine since Octobe 2011. It's a Canadian version of Sports Illustrated, it's only $28 for the year. Anyway the Baseball Preview came. As you can see from my posts about CBC's embarrassing hockey coverage, I think Sports Coverage in this country is a joke. These picks reek of Canadian bias: 1) Jays will win 93 games 2) Jays will win the AL East, Baltimore will finish 5th 3) They compare Reyes, Cabrera, Bautista, and Encarnacion to White, Alomar, Molitor, Carter, and Olerud. 4) Joe Girardi will be the first AL Manager fired 5) Jose Bautista will win the AL HR title 6) Joey Voto will win the NL HR title and the NL MVP Award Again I don't know if they're stupid or the Canadian Government tells them to do stuff like this. My take: 1 + 2) So they Jays will improve 20 games while Baltimore will be 20-25 worse? Have you seen the O's pitching staff? I still wouldn't count out the Yankees, and the Rays will win their usual 90 games. 3) Yeah right, that's an insult to your 1992 and 1993 teams. 4) So after a World Series Championship in 2009 and all those 90 win seasons IF the Yankees struggle, they'll get rid of Girardi by May or June? That doesn't make any sense. 5) Yes Bautista has a decent shot, but he's coming off a wrist injury, plus he's probably on the decline. 6) Voto (born in Toronto) hit 14 HRs last year, and he has only hit more than 30 once. How is Voto going to win the NL HR Title? Did he take PED's over the winter or something? I expect more from "so called" experts, instead of more Canadian crap from the media. My subscription is up in October, but after this I'm not renewing for next year.

The Dats-Cleary-Abby line is my only complaint about the team. With Franzen back, I don't know why Babs loads up a line with Brunner-Z-Franzen, then has Cleary and Abby with our best player. Abby should be on a line with Tootoo.
-
Right, which is why I don't listen to all the talk on the broadcasts, these guys don't have time to watch every team, but they think they need to say something to sound smart... It's like last year with the Tigers, all season opposing broadcast teams kept commenting on how weak the Tigers left side of the infield was. I saw a lot games last year and yes, Cabrera and Peralta aren't the fastest guys out there, but they made all the plays they should have and had strong throwing arms.

I'm not saying we'll win or lose, but this year going into the playoffs we won't have any pressure (Chicago's going to have all the pressure), and we have guys on the team who have been there and done that. All teams have to do is get a couple breaks, get hot at the right time, and believe in themselves. Again, if I'm on another team in the west, or just a fan, I don't want to play the Wings in the playoffs. Playing this year's Wings in a best of 7 would take a lot out of you.
-
Good call. I thought before the season started the D was underrated. They just needed some time to get over the loss of Lidstrom and establish new rolls for each other. All 6 of them, are playing well! Seems like the only one who hasn't been able to adjust to losing Lidstrom is White.
-
Right, I don't know what everyone else is watching, but this team is good! They work hard, they're tough, fast, block a lot of shots, and Howard is probably playing the best he ever has. Just wait until Helm comes back! I know if I was on one of the other teams in the West, I wouldn't want to play the Wings in the playoffs.

Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal
Barrie replied to a topic in General
Today's game is one of the reasons why I don't want this new plan, we'll only play Chicago twice. Then when they come to town you'll have to pay hundreds for a ticket. Are people seriously excited to play the same 7 teams 6 times during the season, then two of them (if we win a couple rounds) in a best of 7? There's a potential to play one team 13 times. If you ask me, that's a huge over kill and it will get old fast! There's one thing about being retro, but to set up the league like it's 1968 is just plain dumb. All it will do is help owners save money on travel, and allow them to charge more for tickets. No wonder why the owners suggested it. Fans will lose in the long run. -
If CBC was showing the game they'd have huge man love for Toews, Seabrook, and Keith and would mention the 2010 Gold Medal win 27 times along with 10 replays and stats from the tournament. When they weren't talking about the 2010 Olympics, they'd mention 15 times how Lidstrom retired, the Wings are lost with out him, and can't get the puck out of their own end. Then there would be 14 mentions about how great Crawford is to make the people in Quebec happy, and 9 mentions of Emery leading the Sens to the 2007 Final to make people in Ottawa happy... Oh wait, can't forget about Sharp, he's from Manitoba. Who cares about the game, because it's "Our Game"!!

The Black Hawks point streak ends today, 4-2 Wings. Edit: However we'll see if the refs get special orders by Bettman to keep it alive. I'm expecting some questionable penalty calls late against the Wings.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/21780494/trout-aims-to-improve-near-perfect-rookie-year-by-stealing-more-bases- More Cabrera vs. Trout talk. I'm tiki825 in the comment section informing people how historic Miggy's season was last year. 40 HR, 40 2B, and 200 Hits in the same season has only been done by two other players in the history of Baseball, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Plus he won the first Triple Crown since 1967. Cabrera's 2012 season put him in the company of Ruth, Gehrig, Yaz, Mantle, and Ted Williams, the legends of the game, and it seems like the majority of Baseball fans are unaware of that.

That's one of my complaints about NHL officials. They have way to much effect in momentum swings in games based on their calls. And it doesn't help that most of their calls are based on the score. They almost have as much effect on the momentum of the game as the players do, sometimes more.
